A Bruce Lee lookalike was used. The three men playing ping pong mimicked the motions of an actual game, but did not actually use a ping pong ball. A “ball” was edited into the film after the fact. At first we see “Lee” beating a single opponent, then taking on two opponents at the same time. There is also video of “Lee” lighting a cigarette - with his nunchaku (“nunchucks”) - as it dangles from another man’s mouth.
They didn’t have technology to fake it before Lee’s death in 1973, did they? Well, they didn’t, but the video was made in 2008 as a commercial for Nokia N96 Limited Edition. The creators of the clip, J. Walter Thompson company, never intended it to be taken so literally. But the commercial became much more popular than the phone and people believed the video to be authentic. Interestingly enough, no one even said that it is Bruce Lee- his name was not mentioned.

Nokia followed up soon with the full video and product reveal. To this day, many share the supposed nunchuck footage as real, and given Lee's limitless talents, that's not too hard to believe.
Nobody can emulate Bruce Lee's style. This is 100% real. There is simple no possible way to choreograph these movements, with this level of skill. And no cgi can replicate these movements.
It was and it wasn’t even Bruce himself. The ball was edited in & everyone there was a paid actor hired by nokia for an ad which wasn’t even sanctioned by the Lee family themselves. Only the phone was. Nokia took way too much advantage of this situation
Nokia also won awards for their editing work in this ad that they honestly shouldn’t have won for the illegality of it all. Making this ad without the Lee faimly’s permission & behind their backs smh

Walter Thompson Advertising Agency. BUT: I must give the reason to "bruce wayne": bet Bruce Lee COULD heve done this commercial for real, back at his best moment, though probably with some edition and special ball becuase an ordinary ping-pong ball never would resist a nunchaku hit by him!
Tiago Soares I don't think they had the capability to convincingly fake this. To recreate the trajectory and timing of every movement would be virtually impossible today and unfeasible back then. It would have hurt Nokia's bottom line to invest in cutting edge graphics, when bruce lee is the one man who is actually capable of playing pro level ping pong with nun chucks. The video, which has circulated on social media regularly since late 2012, was a promotional spot created in 2008 by Nokia for a limited edition Bruce Lee cell phone. An actor played the part of Bruce Lee.
The award-winning commercial was produced by JWT Shanghai, and was created to look as if it were filmed back in the late 1960s or early 1970s.
Thank you for that indepth report I really appreciate that!

Most valuable comment. Thanks!
2008? Amazing, I could swear I saw it in the short period between 9/11 and the birth of RUclips.

Great job on this ad! It seems so real! 👍😝👍
What people think it is: Archival footage of kung-fu master Bruce Lee playing ping-pong with nunchucks
• What it really is: An ad for the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Limited Edition
• Agency behind it: JWT Beijing
• Year created: 2008
• Views so far: 17.6 million on main RUclips clip
Using a Bruce Lee look-alike, deceptively grainy visuals and some digital trickery, JWT Singapore created a viral masterpiece with this ad for a limited-edition Bruce Lee version of Nokia's N96 phone. An original 10-second teaser featured only the fake footage with no mention of a brand, and it tallied more than 700,000 views in the first 24 hours. Nokia followed up soon with the full video and product reveal. To this day, many share the supposed nunchuck footage as real, and given Lee's limitless talents, that's not too hard to believe.
Sure fooled me..but Bruce probably could've done it, if anyone could've done it!

Tiago Soares Please look for the history behind this video in snoops.com: was an advertisement produced in 2008 for Nokia to promote the Nokia N96 Limited Edition Bruce Lee cell phone by the Beijing office of J.
Lazlo Vandor I know this is an advertisment and that is fake.
For all we know, he used to do that in his free time for fun - he is from Hong Kong after all.
