Last week we made it to Mexico City where we get to spent Christmas with Nicolas' family. In this episode, we adapt to the visit of our closed ones. Impossible to continue full-time in our #landroverdefender so we take it as an opportunity to experiment another type of travelling in the middle of our full time overland world tour. No more sleeping in the car or cooking by ourselves, with them we adapt and we are going into hotels and go out to restaurants. This is very much like a classic kind of tourism for most people but for us it changes quite a lot from our overland travelling style. From Mexico City historic sites to Oaxaca beautiful culture and colours, we bring you with us for this week of adventure with our family.
The conclusion of this video is that to spend time with family and friends adapting is always a good idea.
See you next week and in the meantime, take care!

A bit of a change from our usual travelling style! But to be with family we adapted and we loved it. Hope you enjoy it too.
Nothing better than spending Christmas and New Year with family and friends, no matter where you are.
Nothing beats spending time with family in a holiday specially in a foreign country, makes it more memorable.
💪
No matter where you are, your adventures always bring me joy and put a smile to my face 😊. Thanks so much.
Glad you like them! No matter where we are you comments are heartwarming and give us ton of energy to make more video!!!!
Thanks, guys 💑for sharing your Christmas in Mexico with Nick's family.🎄 You seem very flexible in traveling the world with your SUV. Hope Nick will recover soon and we will have more fun videos of your expeditions in 2023. On other channels, I watch on RUclips, say there are real issues of killings in Mexico due to the Drug Cartels. Do you feel safe in Mexico. Are there places in Mexico that Mexicans warn you not to go into? Stay safe and have fun in 2023. Cheers 🌮🌮👍
Hey, thanks for the message and yes we feel safe in Mexico. The issues are mostly up in Senaloa, we’re quite far south 😊
@@NextMeridianExpedition Good, Please stay safe and get well soon🦵🤠
You've learned more about my birth country than I did in the 10 years that I lived there 🤣😅. Thank you for the history lesson 😊.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Nick: "We'll be back on the road in three weeks".......
Mexico: "I will help you stay longer so you can keep enjoying tacos"
:) Nice video!
Hahah, good one. Yep mexico didn’t want us out just yet 😆
You guys are great ambassadors and the best promoters of turism of Mexico. The state should honor your presence in their country!
Thank you! 😃 would be nice
What a special time with family. Thanks for including the rest of us. This will be a Christmas you’ll never forget. All the best in 2023! From Western Canada.
So true! best for 2023 too! thank you Heather
Very nice family. Some beautiful sites in Mexico. Looks like you are all having a great time. The pyramids were amazing. Thanks for the tour!
Thanks so much for watching !
Love your positive attitude while traveling. NIce to see Mexico painted in such a positive, glowing light. How nice you were able to spend time with both families.
Awesome video as always. It's always a plus to spend time with family for the holidays. Keep the wheels rolling.
Thanks 🙏
The driving practice that Nick describes at 11:45 is the same I encountered and drove with on a highway in Greece in 1994. Slow traffic would stay to the right, and the faster cars would zip around them, into the oncoming lane to pass. And we saw all kinds of traffic, from old jalopies to Mercedes. So, it was white knuckle time. I imagine that they have widened that highway by now, but who knows?
Haha, it’s quit fun 😊
A very unusual Xmas & New Year for Europeans 😊
looks like a great time with family have a save trip and stay save thanks for the video
Amazing places, it's always nice to have some fun with family I have enjoyed 💯% the video congratulations I hope you getting well after the surgery a big hug for you guys 👍💪
Thank you Lucio 🙏
Thanks for the beautiful view of Mexico that I will never see in person because my wife will not travel there for security reasons…and believe me there are reasons we have seen before, especially Cancun and PV…so please be safe and enjoy your trip.
Will do thanks! And we feel very safe down here 😊
A truly special vlog! Thank you for sharing. Contrasting the travel experience was enlightening with how you 'normally' travel and traveling with family. Both are special and with immeasurable value. The sites, the sounds, the drone shots, matched perfectly with the background music. Simply a pleasure to watch. All the best to you and your families in this new year. Ooohhh, I am waiting for what you bring us next!
Thank you for that 😃 and we’ll keep bringing you sweet videos every Saturday
This practice of moving into the emergency lane for allowing faster traffic to overtake you is also common here in South Africa :) :) Love your vlog! Happy New Year! xx
We actually find it very efficient and smooth when everyone plays the game smart! Good to know! We will be ready!
@@NextMeridianExpedition - it works very well here actually, with rare exceptions. I drive an old Land Rover Discovery V8 (used to have a Defender
Trop cool la fondue le 31. 👍
Trop bon!
Thank You very much for the video
Happy New Year 2023 from the Netherlands! I'm not much for the crowded Mexican cities though the culture of the Aztecs was interesting. And your beach excursion through those breathtaking mountains was gorgeous.
Happy new year 2023 to you from Mexico 😃
Mexico is such a beautiful country. I've enjoyed the expedition through your lens in Baja, Mexico City, and now in Oaxaca. This episode is one of your best! Blessings to you and your family in the new year!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Lovely!
Love you guys! Take care ❤
Thank you! ❤️
Mexico city has some beautiful architecture. Definitely build by Spain. Saint Augustine Florida also has impressive architecture built by Spain in the 1500s. I think you would also like Florida, the Everglades and the Keys, Key west.
We’d like to go check out florida one day for sure 😊
What a great Christmas and video.
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for sharing your beautiful travel memories with us and taking us along with your family during the holidays . Looked like every one had a spectacular time together during this time in Mexico as a family . What great views of the city’s and monuments you got to visit your family and the two of you will remember this trip for years to come . So again thanks for sharing your wonderful memories with us your over landing friends . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A. :) :) :) :) :) 🌎😁🍻🏜🌵
We did have a splendid time and thank you for the kind words 😃 happy 2023 to you!
I can't speak for Mexico, but in the American west, it's common courtesy for slower vehicles on hard to pass roads to ease over to let people pass more easily. It looks the same in your video.
The nature scenery of mexico is quite beautiful
What a beautiful country! Thank you for sharing!
Welcome!
we had in 2019 for a new year in the middle of the utah desert a room in an empty motel and only chicken nuggets with coke.
The worst menu ever.
slept at 9pm but the sun the snow and the desert for the first of January also enough to bear the pain .
Oh noooo, we’ll Utah is amazing for sure!
Very fascinating with so many great insights of mexico and on life! Nice of you have the family with you and share it with us. Wish you lots of beautiful experiences and discoveries for 2023!
Glad you enjoyed it! And happy 2023 to you!

It's the first of February as I am watching this episode. Since the videos are more or less one whole month later, I just want to ask you if you are still travelling south, and what country you are in now. I am asking because I am currently in Bogota Colombia. My wife and I came here on 14/11/22. It was planned to leave tomorrow and head back to Athens, but we posponed our departure till 7th of March. So, if by any chance want to meet up, and have a good time here in Bogota, it sure will be nice. I have sent you an email, so you may reply to that
Hope to hear from you, Michael.
Hi Michael, yeah this month we took a month delay in videos, but we’ll be back on track with 2 weeks delay soon. We received your email and will answer you back today. We are still stuck in Cancun as Nick is waiting to heal from his knee injury and will only start driving again on the 24th of March, we won’t get there in time… but thank you for the kind offer! 🙏
@@NextMeridianExpedition In that case I can only wish you speed recovery. Didn't know that you had an injury.
So, if and when you come to Greece, you already have my number, so give us a call. Maybe we can cross roads at the other side of the Atlantic.
Saludos
Saludos!
Waiting for yr video is too difficult 😅 ….❤
Ahhh that’s cute and thank you!! Saturdays come fast 😊
Hm, when you mentioned seeing mountains covered in Joshua trees and Saguaros was intrigued. So I looked up the range for Joshua trees but it doesn't seem to extend to the region in which you are traveling. The info I found online indicates they are mostly confined to the Mohave desert. The situation seems to be the same with Saguaro cactuses, being only in Arizona in NW Mexico. So what's going on here, I'm confused.
I checked on google, if you type saguaro cactus in Oaxaca you’ll find tons of links.
@@NextMeridianExpedition hm.. nothing comes up. Peddling misinformation are we, tsk tsk 😕😂
Fun fact, one of the plural forms of cactus is cacti. Apparently cactuses is a common version in American English though
Americans say Cactuses.
@@passingthroughtime6841 which is funny because I'm American and I've only ever heard it as cacti. I actually had to Google to see if there was in fact other versions.
@@jdcnosse And I'm a 62 year old American, and have only heard Americans say cactus and cactuses. I have only heard some British people say cacti. I had to look it up and found out that the word cacti is the scientific name for cactuses and that it is very rarely used in the United States.
@@jdcnosse I also found out that some Europeans called them cacti, even if it's one or more they still say cacti
Noted, we’ll remember it thanks 😊
Good that The minus things have nothing to do with Mexico 😊
Just one thing why a lot of tourists when they go to Mexico complain about Mexico having a lot of tourism but they go to countries like Spain/France whom have like 3 times more and don’t complain about it??
Interesting point. I think even in france or Spain we tend to avoid places with tourists ? It s not always an objective we like seeing what needs to be seen but it does change the travel vibe a lot.

Love your channel but I'm going to be that wet drip..thought the lists were more of a distraction. I believe most of us know the distinctions between your way of traveling compared to "our reality"(family,kids,jobs,etc..). I know that in no way did you mean to offend anyone's sensibilities, but it just kinda came off as a bit ...well never mind. No need for anyone reading this to defend ..I shall remain (always) a loyal subscriber.
Hi John, we see what you mean although we are sorry it came out this way to you. We saw it a bit in a different way in that it it pushed us to question what we were missing by not engaging more in some aspect of travel. So we might adapt to dive into some of the + we identified. We did not mean to contrast a good versus a bad. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts it’s important for us.
