Even to this day, Jeremy Irons' line delivery as Scar, Mufasa's screaming as he plummeted to his death, and Simba's agonized scream as he watched his father die helplessly, still give me goosebumps and chills. Such an amazing work of art. And that cat's reaction is great. The moment Mufasa died, the cat jumped off the bed and went to the screen as if it was trying to enter the world itself and comfort Simba.
When this movie came out.. it was about the time we lost our Dad. Our oldest brother rented the movie for us to watch over the weekend and so the six of us (ages ranging between 22 and 15) watched it on awe for we all appreciated Disney’s productions. When this scene appeared we all were silent and by the end of it.. there wasn’t, I tell you, wasn’t an eye not tearful. Our wound was still raw. Rest in peace, Dad. 💐

Animals can care, grieve, get surprised and get angry. How would they be able to feel all those things if they couldn't process any logic? Why wouldn't this cat understand what was happening when the big cat fell of the cliff after a fight? Animals deserve our respect.

@Ashwin maybe before you call people dumb you should fact check yourself because a cat mother who lost her young is know to show signs of depression and elephants are know to visit the death sites of their family members for years after their passing so we could say we dont truly understand the nature of consciesness enough to understand howmuch is "primal instinct" in animals and humans and with the evidence at hand i suggest it would be more ignorant to suggest animals just work on primal instinct then to suggest consciousness migth be linked to intelligence such that every living thing with a brain is conscious of its enviremont to a certain degree

The most heartbreaking scenes from animated films for me are Mufasa's death, the beginning of Oliver and Company, the dwarves crying around Snow White's casket and the hieroglyphics scene in Prince of Egypt where the kids are snatches from their mothers. Absolutely painful scenes to watch. This cat gets it.

Actually, I saw someone comment on here that the meow the cat was making was the same kind of meow mother cats use to call their kittens to them. Don't know how true that is, but it's cute to think that the cat actually cares about the characters
Plus, look at the timings - paw stuck out as Scar speaks, jumping down after light change and before Simba moves, the timing of some of the meows, and when the screen stopped moving to focus on Mufasa the cat was still pawing and meowing.

Seeing the comments under this clip makes me seriously doubt if we have developed at all since the stone age. Cats and dogs do not understand movies but they know that the images on the screen are not real eventhough sometimes their instinct to pounce is so strong that they are compelled to do it anyhow.
