- The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.
I can’t believe Al Michaels has been commentating all forms of sports for that long..! Like look at his Afro!
He filled in for Chris Schenkel on Saturday afternoon PBA in the 70s and 80s. An as expected, did a masterful job. Everything he did/does is top shelf.
The twin series races at MIS were the best - 200 mile IndyCar race combined with a 200 mile NASCAR race had something for everyone. Infield seating was great for people watching and related activities. Couldn’t imagine you could ever hold a similar event today.
I like the fact that a AMX is used as a pace car 😊😊😊
Its hard to fathom all these absolute icons on the same track racing....
POINT STANDINGS and WINS before the 1979 MOTOR STATE 400 (16 of 31):
· Darrell Waltrip (2426 points with 4 wins, Chevrolet)
· Bobby Allison (-63 with 4 wins, Ford)
· Cale Yarborough (-199 with 2 wins, Oldsmobile)
· Richard Petty (-224 with 2 wins, Oldsmobile)
· Dale Earnhardt (-409 with 1 win, Chevrolet)
· Joe Millikan (-420, Chevrolet)
· Benny Parsons (-434, Oldsmobile)
· Terry Labonte (-581, Chevrolet)
· Buddy Baker (14th with 1 win, Chevrolet) had problems at the end of Spring while Dick Brooks (Oldsmobile), Dave Marcis (Chevrolet) and Lennie Pond all had to scale down to a partial schedule. Meanwhile, Neil Bonnett won in his 3rd start with the Wood Brothers’ Mercury after David Pearson decided to leave.
Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Also, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In Michigan’s case, the earlier race was the Motor State while the later one was the Yankee.
Great to see all my NASCAR heroes again!
I really enjoyed watching!
Rookie Dale Earnhardt 🙃
12:49 😳🤯😵😐 absolute act of God that nobody lost their life. Unbelievable
Thanks Scott
THanks for the memories
Did Buddy Baker’s team switch car models mid season? that is not the same 28 car that won the Atlanta race.
They ran the Olds on super draft tracks. They found at Atlanta that the Olds had no downforce for tracks outside Daytona and Talladega
🏁Enjoyed!!!!! 🏁
Harry Ranier Team Number 28 Wins At Michigan International Speedway In Brooklyn Michigan
They’d do it again in 1981 with Bobby Allison; Cale then swept both Michigan races in 1983; Davey then won the Champion Spark Plug 400 in 1988
@@STP43FAN1 Really
Yes we did! When you see the pit road crash that my dad Harry Ranier in red shirt and bucket hat. I was near him when that happened. Very scary!
@@lorinranier9881 Really
It sure was. I’m amazed nobody was seriously injured there.
