At the 00:48 time stamp, when you lift the guitar out of the case something falls out of the guitar's output jack area, it almost looked like glitter or something! Tobacco Burst looks great with the cream P90s.
For nearly 30 years, I have been accustomed to associating this finished with Tommy Shaw. Right before Styx hit the studio to record *the Grand Illusion,* he was given a Les Paul in tobacco burst. Are you or two later, he was given a spare that was the next model belt, possibly even built the same day as the one he played on that album. I love the sound of those soapbar P90s. They're equal parts jangle and punch.
This combination has been living rent free in my head for months now and I'm not even a P90 person. I don't know why, maybe because it has a burst conversion vibe to me, though if I got one, I'd give it a blank truss rod cover to be a bit more period correct, I don't know when they introduced the one with "Standard" written on it, but I haven't seen an original with that
It sounds pretty good with the adjustments, Austin! One suggestion, drop the bridge’s pole pieces a bit (it’ll warm it up) and raise the neck pups pole pieces and get your s little more spank and clarity.
We had one of those cherry sunburst P-90 models in my brother's Tallahassee music store in the early '70s, IIRC, and it was a WONDERFUL guitar! You could play any style of music you wanted on that thing! And it was really nice to look at! BTW: Dave's Guitars is offering the Gold Tops at $2999. A discount in the other direction ...
By the reading on the output it seems like they installed the pickups neck on bridge and bridge on neck for some reason you should not have to adjust those that extremely. I would personally swap in some mojotone quiet coil p90s with black covers. But that's just me. The antiquity p90s are great if you enjoy the authenticity and don't mind the hum. I'm pretty sure there is plenty of options. Also it's cool you could fit mini humbuckers with the plate.
Excellent! Bread and Butter "Standard 50s P90" in the original Gibson vintage finish Tobacco Burst (going back 100 years on acoustics). With walnut back and a plain but pretty maple grain top- nothing fancy, total workhorse. This is the one Standard model I would buy new over any other. Happily I already have a 2013 50s Tribute P90 (Studio version with mahogany neck) virtually identical to this with cream plastics. Even so, if I had $3800CAD spare change I'd get this 50s Standard P90 just to have the Standard version with my favourite finish and pickups.
I just bought a red Gibson classic last week as my first Gibson guitar. Always was a Fender fan and today I just bought this one from you .Thank you Trogly can’t wait for it to arrive. This color just blows me away. Love all your vids your a true Gibson expert. Now I just have to learn how to play guitar.
Hey trog . They going live with guitars for sale. Like how. Whatnot does. You can have your fans show up with their for sale also. Once a week. You could give away merch.
Be funny to put a black cover on the neck pickup, and a vintage looking aged cover on the bridge pickup, so they blend into the finish. I’d be great if they did something like this, but in a double cut from the USA line.
My custom weighs less than that guitar. More “tone”. I guess. Also, is it a thing that p90 neck pups are louder than the bridge? Sounds, and looks great, though.
That's gorgeous! I've always said my next guitar would be a Les Paul with P90's. This may be what I've been waiting for. I do love a nice gold top, but you really can't beat the burst on this one.
Nice guitar but I’m a fan of the standards so a little bias showing. Thanks for rocking a little “ Free” because I’m “Alright Now!” Trogly. 👍🏻 I am impressed with those P-90’s. The tobacco burst works for me. Thanks for the review and demo
@@scottbogfoot Same here, snow is gone, but not forgotten.. That's OK, our crappy cold weather means not many people live in my area/region. I just want it to turn mild so the Morel Mushrooms will start coming in.
Great job Trogley. I actually kind of like a 50's LP with p90's to have a plain top (as long as it is around 9 pounds or less). It seems more historic to me.☺
There is a guy on market place in NC with a black one! I dont know if its a prototype or what but everything adds up SN case candy/ factory photo. Its only 50's ive seen thats black do you know about that?
Yep love the tobacco burst, although it is still somewhat disheartening to spend so much money on what Gibson is asking for these guitars and have things like that fret nib fail, and that very sloppy control cavity cover fitment. Really weird how production workers were under the gun when Henry was president and put out some really bizarre sloppy work on late Gibsons from that era.
My 76 les Paul standard is tobacco burst. On front back and neck. I love it. These with natural backs look like shit to me. As for p90 pickups. I bought a les Paul special TV yellow couple years ago. I sold it couple months ago because just no class in the sound to me. I'm a humbuckers guy. No strats either cheap guitars
Plus, that guitar has an ebony fretboard, which always looks better. I wonder if the gold top would look good with an ebony fretboard? Ya, it definitely would.
Your 70 just means it is a Deluxe, no? Kinda lame that Gibson does so little to differentiate and justify the many overlapping models like the 50s Std with P90s and the 70s deluxe with mini humbuckers. Wish they'd go a little further to differentiate them more.
Even though tobacco burst isn't my first choice for a Les Paul this is a beautiful guitar Trogly! (I also love that gold top P90) but love this one and it sounds dandy well! Nice job on Free's All Right Now too, love that song too!

Wine red P90 with cream P/U would be exotic. Les paul jr with binding.🔥
Love these! Tobacco and Bourbon bursts are my favorite. Glad that Gibson finally added some bursts with P90s.
I would Definately put black covers on those p90s. This guitar looked incredible when you had the covers off and the black was exposed.

Joe Perry, as well.
I appreciate the reminder, @@Paul-qo1hb.
I absolutely love mine. Now I get to turn my Standard 50's Goldtop into a Deluxe with a set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity II mini humbuckers!
Im a fender guy but this guitar with the p90s is really me into Gibson.
At 0:48 is that sawdust falling out the input jack 😳
I love P-90s. This guitar sounds good to me. Are you keeping this one Trogly?
Love the P90s. I actually love the song he was playing to!

Just ordered one but in the Goldtop Finish. I have a Custom Shop VOS R7 Goldtop. But always wanted one w p90s! psyched!
I’m a plain top/ p90 guy. I love it!
Gibson should do a Simpson’s tribute “Tomacco” burst
It sounds pretty good with the adjustments, Austin! One suggestion, drop the bridge’s pole pieces a bit (it’ll warm it up) and raise the neck pups pole pieces and get your s little more spank and clarity.
I really like the wood grain on this one. A nice alternative to the whole flame top thing. Tobacco bust is OK, but I prefer iced tea.

I used to have a Les Paul Deluxe in that Tobaccoburst, bought new in ‘74. The burst on mine was on the sides and back as well as the top.

Nothing wrong with a plain top and P-90s 😎👍
Hope it goes to a good home and gets the frets played off
I will be practicing the E minor pentatonic with it for hours. Unfortunately I’m just learning to play. But it will be played often just badly.
Sounds much better than yesterday's USA Kirk Hammet Greeny LP. That thing sounded terrible.
I’m not usually a fan of Tobacco Bursts, but this has early Joe Perry vibes

These look so cool. I just wish they were lighted. All the examples at Sweetwater were in the 9-10lbs range. I miss the good old days of 7-8lbs LPs.
Please. Is the neck same profile as LP Junior ? Or does it have more U in it ?
Please do a show on the Gibson Murphy lab 59 les Paul special double cut with reliced sunburst with binding and humbuckers only $9k@ guitar center!

Like the flat satin black Standard w/ P-90’s. They should be available in every music store & priced slightly more than a Studio.
I just ordered one of these from the Gibson Mod Collection. The top is Periwinkle Blue Satin. Can't wait to arrive!
Beautiful guitar, but if you want something less expensive just get a LP special P90. They sound great and are much lighter.

A lot of the custom shop models have gaps around the toggle switch back plates.
