This was a great help. I had some gas from my neighbor’s snowblower that I had fixed and I was trying to figure out what to do with the gas. Thank you for sharing.
You are a good teacher! This helped me so much!! I appreciate, as well, that you are respectful to our environment and not just dumping old gas anywhere. Thanks 🙏
It's interesting that it's illegal to dump this just anywhere and yet your locale might not have a recycling center for gasoline (or some other fluid). Kinda difficult to comply with the law under such conditions. Thanks for this solution.
Hey Al...Got a great tip...Use a silk sheet as a filter for funnel gas...Old boater trick...This is how "Mr. Funnel" started out..Gas flows through..Water does not..Different microns...Use Ethanol Shield for Fuel Stabilization/Regular treatments for all your vehicles Gas or Diesel....
Thank you. I've been trying to figure out what to do with the ancient (at least ~5 years old) gas I removed from my project car for a while now. Filter, dilute, stabilize, and run it through the lawnmower sounds good to me!
I was in the military and fueled up helicopters with JP4 at the time which has been updated to I believe JP8. We always had to do an "Aqua Glow" to "filter" out the gasoline from any water or dirt. If you didn't do this segregation of the fuel from water or dirt, it would cost the army lives, and money if that helicopter didn't fly right. Great video explanation of what I used to do, only with equipment made to filter it out. But if your not doing a tanker truck which usually hold 8,500 gallons and simply what you showed in your video, this is an excellent way to do that. Just throwing this out there as a help, but I advise people not to go to a gas station if you see a gas truck refueling there. The reason why is simple, because they fill the tanks at those gas stations and stir up all the garbage at the bottom of those tanks, and that ends up in your gas tank. My advice, .....wait until a few hours after that truck leaves to gas up. That allows the sediment to go back to the bottom. No telling how many times those tanks are cleaned out in a years time for SOME gas stations.
Just helped my dad drain 15 litres of unleaded petrol out of his 1984 Suzuki Sierra and it's very dirty so I might suggest this but it will be a lengthy process also thanks for the video really interesting
The gas/oil mix intended for two stroke engines will work fine in a four stroke automobile but may smoke a bit. If you add a gallon or two of old 2stroke mix when refilling an empty tank at the gas station, the mix will be diluted so much you'll .never notice the difference.
After burning 16 ounces of 50 to 1 mix, I will never add this to my car. If you saw how much black soot remains after just 16 ounces you’ll think twice about adding it to your vehicle. I’ll just continue burning it in my Coleman 1 pound tank with the top cut off.
@@condor5635 Where? Where is the soot? In what did you burn it? My helper poured about a gallon of 20:1 mix in my 16 hp garden tractor which upset me more than the motor. I didn't like it but eventually I figured it was no worse than adding upper cylinder lube.
@@roseymalino9855 go burn a pint of 20 to 1 or 50 to 1 mixture - when the flame goes out you’ll see what’s soot I’m talking about. It’s disgusting. I would never want it in my engine like my car.
Thanks. Please subscribe if you found it helpful.. You could let it evaporate depending on how much water is in it or burn it. I was planning on doing a follow up video as I have gotten this question many times.
Matt Jones i don't know about that but sometimes I tried to see if it would burn and sometimes it did and sometimes not. some times it may have more water in it depending on the strorage conditions. Then sometimes I find no water in gas tanks at all.
Would this work for a large scooter engine? I haven’t run my bike since last September so I am thinking my fuel is old. I was wondering what to do with the old fuel once I get it out.
Honestly, my solution for what to do with old gas in a lawnmower is to just dump it in my old ford, go to the gas station and top off, and call it a day. That little bit of water or ethanol in a gallon of fuel isn't going to really do much more damage to your vehicle than buying normal pump fuel will. Especially if you live in an area that gets a lot of rain because those fuel stations will get tankers of new fuel rain or shine. I've watched those guys filling the underground tanks in a deluge and the driver is standing under the overhang to stay dry while it pumps.
Thing is I have like 10 liters of 5 year old fuel that came with my bike and don't want to run it though and it would take a long time to dilute 10liters on a motorcycle so idk what to do anyone got some tips
Take it out and use it in a mower. You don't have to dilute it with new fuel if it burns ok as is. Diluting the fuel is to raise the octane level if too low.
LOL 90% of the people will use it to burn brush or just poor it into the ground --- Fuel stabilizer will do more harm to your engine if you dint use anything.. my opinion but look it up..
Once gas is bad its bad now matter how many time you filter the gas it will not work. Do not do this and put it in your small engine equipment. You can't how ever put it in your vehicle as long as you have half a tank of gas. Gas rejuviantes at a 4 to1 ratio.

So now the question is how do you get rid of old fuel that’s been mixed with oil at 100 to 1 or 50 to 1? Great video thanks for posting
Throw it in your car, motorcycle, generator, anything. If it's no longer flammable just dilute it. I do this all the time and all my machines love it

once you drain off as much gas as possible by moving to smaller containers, what do you do with the remaining stuff?
It's not very volatile so you could let it evaporate or burn it in a fire pit.
How do you dispose of the ethanol/water mix?
Matt Jones The EPA recommends you leave it outside to evaporate. Or sometimes I use it to light my firepit.

dump in used oil for recycle

It's mostly water so you could let it evaporate, or put it in a metal container and burn off.

What I had hoped to see in the end, but didn't, was what to do with the mixture of water and ethanol.

If it runs on gasoline sure.
So, what do you do with the extra you can't recycle?
Weed killer
Save to start bonfires
Run it through a Mr. Funnel. It will separate the water, dirt and gas completely. It will only let the gas through.

5 year old fuel is garbage.
10%ethanol gas is really unstable and shouldn't be trusted in any small engine after 3 months.
Why worry about recycle. Put it in your cars gas tank. I have for years and have never had any problem with my pickup running rough.
looks like water to me. doesnt ethanol mix with water? alcohol
trey gowdy actually the ethanol attracts water and then separates from the gasoline. Thanks.

The purpose is to inform people so they don't pour it into the ground. I think it has helped educate how to do this safely.
How on earth can you say fuel stabilizer is bad for your car?
So you save $2 to run old gas through a small engine. I’d rather run fresh fuel through my engines for piece of mind.
Just burn the old gas.
