If you love Rob, you really need to listen to "End of the Road" if you haven't heard it yet. Rob goes to church on that one. It one of Home Free's very best and also features Austin.
The big deal with "Helplessly Hoping" is that two-voice unison near the beginning. I don't personally have much use for unisons: not only are they boring, but they're also difficult as !@#$ to pull off, especially with two voices. But I don't think I've ever heard a unison like that one.
You had to check out some of their solo projects too - if you want to really hear Austin's voice at his best check Bring him Home, it's amazing. And Tim released a solo acapella project layering his voice taking full advantage of his insanely wide range - Will you love me tomorrow/Stay or Come go with me - it's unbelievable it's all "just" his voice alone...
"Crazy", "Helplessly Hoping", "When A Man Loves A Woman", "Unchained Melody", and "End Of The Road" are great, more recent covers to enjoy, also my favorite Original of theirs right now is "Dreamer"(led by Rob also)
you must, Must, MUST do reactions to. "Helplessly Hoping" "Man of Constant Sorrow" and (especially if you'd like to hear some unique harmonies) "Mayday".
Their new cover "The Driver" is another one that hi-lites Rob in addition to Tim and Chance - emotional tug to the heart the message and of course their gift of presenting it. Thank you for reacting to this one too.
Home Frees' musical instincts are spot on and as there are no egos, they choose who sings what according to what will serve the music the best. Every time they release a new video, I think they can't possibly top it and they are like, "Hold my beer." and go ahead and do just that. Just the most recent videos they've come out with, Unchained Melody, Ain't Goin' Down "Til The Sun Comes Up, and The Driver are spectacular. Then you add in the individual work that Tim, Austin and Chance have been up to, you don't have to wander away from Home Free to get the variety of genre, assortment of styles, and range of emotionality. Home Free is like a banquet. If I sound like a smitten Home Fry, it's because that is exactly what I am. Adam Rupp's recent videos of his beat boxing solos from the live shows where he uses a looper to create "beat boxing symphonies" as I call them are also awe inspiring. Thanks for the wonderful reaction.
"Fan girling" suits you just fine. When you smile and your eyes light up you validate what we all feel when we hear amazing harmonies and stunning arrangements.
Yep. I've spent a lot of years singing, and I've been through all that voice-coach stuff many, many times; I almost don't hear it anymore. But the smile! Stopped me dead. It's a great smile.
Gentlemen, I'd like to thank you both for your kind & tasteful acknowledgement of her obvious joy when listening to this. Frequently the comments from men to women reactors simply make me cringe, and your polite comments are a pleasant contrast. I, too, was touched by the obvious joy she expressed while listening to their performance. Her smile is just brilliant. Bethany, it is a treat to hear your assessment of HF. Caught myself reaching to hit the like button repeatedly throughout 😂. Thanks!
"Fangirling" is an honest reaction. I have seen reactors gobsmacked, amazed, speechless, bouncing in their seat, teary-eyed, and everything in between. All perfect reactions.
100% agree with you. Their arrangements suit the song. It’s why they are my favourite a capella group - what they arrange you’ll most likely hear on the radio or on the Billboard charts. Love you’re reactions, and keep the Home Free analysis coming ! You’ll love “Helplessly Hoping”, “Elvira” & “Blue ain’t your colour” off the top of my head.
Austin has his own youtube channel, and he has some amazing stuff on there - including his own written song..."If I met you now".....it's just too pretty....Chance has his own channel & just collaborated with The Hound + The Fox on an amazing version of Wayfaring Stranger.
@@StevenEverett7 exactly...he uses all 3 octaves his voice can rage....it's such a great arrangement....One reason Chance is my favorite on Home Free....the other he's Finz4Life a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan.
Adam Chance is actually a bass. He was actually on the Sing Off, I believe the same year as Pentatonix, with a group called Street Corner Symphony. Home Free added him as their baritone when Chris Rupp left because they had a previous relationship with him (he even appeared as an extra in one of their videos) and he allowed Tim to sing more Tenor and Baritone. Chance actually has a four octave range himself. Home fries actually call him a bassitone. I'm not sure you noticed but that outro was using the melody from "Kiss From A Rose". As far as, how they decide who sings what songs. Tim has said in many interviews that often they will each sing lead on a demo of the song and they and their producer Darren Rust choose the best one or ones to sing lead.
This is the first love song my husband and I ever shared so it is truly meaningful for us...we just celebrated our 20th anniversary last week ❤️. Love that Home Free shared their magnificent rendition so we can revisit those memories in an amazing way 🥰
As always the guys did a fabulous version of this song. I wouldn't expect anything different from them. They are amazing! The ending sounded like a nod to "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. Also like the cute video that goes along with it. A lot of people have covered this song. It was first done by "Lonestar" in 1999. Bonnie Tyler did a cover in 2003 & Boyz II Men in 2009.
Agree with your statement at the end about arranging. I think the big four (at least here on RUclips) Pentatonix, Home Free, VoicePlay, and Voctave have great talented voices AND great fantastic arranging. It definitely singles out acapella groups and sets them apart from the pack.
That doesn’t have to mean you’re crushing on them necessarily. It can just mean you recognize true talent when you see it and these young men are as truly talented as it gets!
I’ve only been listening to HF for the past 2 years but they are my go-to playlist every day. Enjoyed your reaction and hope you’ll do more HF reactions! When a man loves a woman showcases Austin’s buttery voice. Signed, new sub.
Chance previously sang bass for Street Corner Symphony. They also competed on the Sing-Off though I don't remember which season. He gives Home Free a lot of options for trading off with Tim on the lead and bass lines, and they all blow your mind in their cover of Mayday. So glad you're doing VoicePlay next! They were good on Sing-Off, and have grown by leaps and bounds since then. They don't have a manager or record deal so they do everything themselves, complete creative control -- which they didn't have on the Sing-Off. Hoist the Colors and Dream On are epic (their new "baritone" Cesar is the one hitting the high Tyler scream); Butter is fun and needs multiple views to catch all the antics in the background; and Can't Help Falling in Love is a deceptively simple and gorgeous Elvis cover -- all arranged by Geoff, the bass. To see a more playful side, try Little Mermaid Medley, We Don't Talk About Bruno, and Oogie Boogie's Song -- all arranged by Layne, the beatboxer. To show off their dance moves in Boy Bands in Five Minutes, they hired Kristin, the same choreographer who worked on the Sing-Off. Geoff Castellucci started a solo channel doing low bass covers during the pandemic. Monster Mash was my first experience, and I was a fan by 90 seconds in. He filmed that at Pattycake Studio; his wife Kathy has a cameo. He filmed Headless Horseman in his parents' dining room, and Big Bad John in Pattycake's storage room because every venue in town was booked on 2/22/22. 🤣Sixteen Tons and Misty Mountains Cold are by far his most viewed videos. With a five-octave range, he usually harmonizes with three or four clones, from basso profundo up to tenor.
If you want to geek out on Austin, I'd suggest "When a Man Loves a Woman." The rest of the group just sits back, handles the background vocals, and lets Austin take the lead. And boy, does he take the lead!
The sound for this is prerecorded but this video would have been shot at a concert. That bar is their set from the current tours. For me, the biggest thing with Home Free is that they are focused on creating a song and not as focused on the singer. That means they have a lead (that changes) and the rest of the group holds down the song subtly but amazingly. Rupp, for instance, can do crazy sounds but keeps his vocal percussion as true to an actual drum in order that one can quickly forget that it is a human voice. Add in the bass and they have an amazing foundation from which to hang some amazing musicianship.
For Rob, End of the Road, {Boyz II Men}, Austin, Crazy, {Patsy Cline in her key}, maybe When a Man Loves a Woman, {also produced during covid}. For just plain fun you have to watch Their "Butts Remix". For some gospel watch How Great Thou Art, or Go Rest High On That Mountain. To hear Tim really get low, watch Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust singing Misty Mountains. All of their videos are great.
Wonderful reaction, love hearing people that know music discuss the technical stuff as well as the overall sound of the music. One of their best...I think their masterpiece is Brothers in Arms, it's just amazing on so many levels. Would also love to see you check out Avi Kaplan's solo work, his music is stunningly beautiful, honest and heartfelt.....Avi is magic
Enjoyed your 2 reactions! Subbing for more HF. I love the way you react & analyze. Since Chance joined, Tim has the freedom to do other voice ranges, as appropriate for the song. (Doing the song justice is always HF's priority, not someone's ego.) Welcome back to this deep rabbit hole!
I’ve seen shine fantastic suggestions, but please also check out their collaboration with the Oak Ridge Boys on “Elvira,” Tim’s “Stay,” Austin’s “When a Man as Loves a Woman,” and Austin and Tim’s cover of “My Maria,” as well.
I highly enjoyed your reaction to both of the Home Free songs -- and your fangirling 😃 If you haven't seen them yet, Man of Constant Sorrow, End of the Road, Mary Did You Know, My Church, and then Mayday. I believe you will appreciate the differences in leads and mixes/arrangements.
Another great song is a cover of Dire Strait’s “Brothers in Arms”. No percussion, just five part harmonies. The cover is an arrangement by a Finnish group, Club for Five. Tim asked them for permission to use it before they did it. It’s kind of appropriate for this time of year. Home Free doesn’t have any particular lead singer; they just get together and decide who’s voice would sound best for each song.
I really enjoyed this reaction. Many reactors have pointed out many qualities of Home Free, so I won't bore you with that part. Especially when they cover so many genres. What a great song. Also, I love your wonderful smile, which does add another layer to this particular song. Hope to experience many more of your Home Free reactions. This old donkey fell in love all over again!
I just subscribed only because I can tell that you really respect Home Free and what they do I personally would like to see you react to Home Frees newest release of Driver what a homage to the working folks.
Speaking of Tim Foust....have you heard his solo album "Pieces of Me"? It is outstanding!!! He sings all the parts, including the Beach Boy type high tenor parts. You will salivate over it, I guarantee.
You should listen to their cover of End of the road/Boys to Men. There you have Rob and Austin doing what they do best. And..... And after that you should listen to Mayday. That is a Tim Faust moment. After that you should check out Tim Faust doing Will younlove me tomorrow/Stay. From his solo album.
If you haven't listened to "When a Man Loves a Woman", you don't know what you're missing!! Austin has soul! The song officially belongs to him now. ❤👍 Definitely listen to this one next. To hear Rob go totally off the rails, react to "End of the Road"! It'll leave you speechless. Another song full of great harmonies and featuring Rob and Austin would be "Bless the Broken Road". Beautiful rendition, for sure! For overall arrangement, 5-part harmonies, and stunning vocals all the way around, please react to "How Great Thou Art"! You even get the bonus of hearing Adam Rupp sing briefly. 😉😍 Same with "Helplessly Hoping". OMG The 5-part harmonies are out of this world. If you can pick out a higher tenor midway through the song, that's Adam (it shows him on the screen, but most people don't pick up on the fact that it's him singing)! Tim's breath control blows me away, too. Listen for a sustained bass near the end. To get a better feel for Chance's buttery, velvety, smooth voice, listen to a couple sides of him. "Some Girls Do" is a faster, fun, country song. "I Can't Outrun You" is gorgeous and sad. "Cover Me Up" is a love song for his fiance. Watch for a special surprise right after the music stops! "Dive Bar Saints" is a Home Free original with Chance taking lead. "The Driver" is their latest release and he has a great verse in it! "Sea Shanty Medley" features Chance quite a bit. It was his idea to do the video. It's a fun medley! If you go to his own channel (TheAdamChance), definitely listen to "If I Could Only Fly"! He's playing his guitar in that one and it's SO beautiful. To hear the 2 sides of Tim (he's currently got a 5+ octave range, working hard to reach 6 😳), I recommend listening to "Brothers in Arms" first. Hauntingly beautiful 5-part harmonies. No beatboxing. Tim & Chance sharing lead. A Dire Straits/Club 4 Five cover. Sung from the perspective of a soldier dying on the battlefield; speaking about the bond between brothers in arms, while lamenting the futility of war. The "wall of sound" near the middle will make your heart skip a beat. THEN, go to Tim Foust's channel and find "Will You Still Love Me/Stay" and/or "In My Room"! He has a 12-track album called "Pieces of Me, Vol. 1" (all Tim, all a capella!) where he's done a bunch of doo-wop songs from the 50s & 60s. He does ALL of the parts himself (bass/baritone/tenor/falsetto, lead/backup/harmonies, claps/sound effects), including the animal sounds on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"! Lol It's absolutely amazing and fun. 👍❤ To hear another side of Austin (and hear a bit of his musical theater background), go to his channel and give a listen to "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis. Bring tissues. 😍 I could go on all day with this. They have an extensive 150+ catalog (covers AND originals) and not a bad one in the bunch! A ton of great Christmas covers AND originals, as well. Have fun diving into the HF rabbit hole! It's addicting! Lol
Not sure how long it has been since you have checked out Home Free but, Tim, Austin and Chance also have their own solo You Tube channels. Tim and Austin have a couple of collaborations out. Most recently, covers of Brooks and Dunn's "My Maria" and Clay Walker's "What's it to you". Adam Chance is a baritone but he covers bass for Tim when Tim is singing lead. He has been adding covers to his channel for about a year and he has a few collaborations with The Hound and the Fox. He just released a cover of "Wayfaring Stranger" with The Hound and the Fox and The Hound and the Fox released a cover of "The Sound of Silence". Adam Rupp does sing occasionally but, he doesn't sing lead. He is a tenor but, he has a pretty large range.
Hi I’m new to your channel but PLEASE do Helplessly Hoping or Brothers in Arms. Very few reactions to both videos, but more importantly, very few technical comments and analysis! These are both beautiful songs that’ll make your tears fall from their harmonies
Hello, new subscriber here. I really am enjoying your approach to reaction videos in that you share both your technical knowledge of vocals along with allowing us to experience your emotional reaction to the performances. Some reactors are pure "technical" while others are pure "emotional" but I love your balance. Having said all that, I am a Home Free fan and their range of performances spans from pure silliness to very powerful, emotional songs and I love this about them. I second all the other suggestions that you react to Home Free's cover of "Helplessly Hoping" as an amazing example of pure vocal brilliance without the silliness and I believe it is a great performance for a skilled voice teacher like you to react to for all the great harmonies and subtle vocal skills. There are many others, but this one is special I believe. Then there is their powerful rendition of "Brothers in Arms" which is an amazing performance that conveys a very serious message. I mention this as fair warning to you that your beautiful, upbeat personality and detailed technical reaction might need to be put on hold (or at least tempered) for reacting to this song. The song has a very strong emotional connection for me and some of my favorite reviewers came in trying to ignore the message and only comment on the vocal technique. It came across as though they were not listening to the words and message. I very much look forward to following your new content.
Tim has a channel of his own and he's produced an album recently. Several of the songs are free on his RUclips channel. They are fantastic coves and will present a Tim that you've never seen or heard before.
My Maria is a really cool departure from the norm (such as a guitar, bass, and keyboard!) done in a back yard I think during COVID shutdown, as was their Sea Shanty Medley, made TikTok style. I really like that one!
Adam Chance sang bass in his previos groups I thing the Street side Singerd. He works as a seconf bass but I love his voice and has some great individual performance.
I wish you would consider reacting to 'Winter Song'. It's a gorgeous song also. Maybe when it gets hot in the near future it could cool everyone down a bit.
Dave here. Like your appreciation of their talent. Fan girling isn't always bad. lol Welcome to such a deightful rabbit hole. My choices for Home Free Best arrangement: Do You Hear What I Hear, Best solo: When a Man Loves A Woman, Best Cover: End of the Road, Favs: Mayday (save for later), One Man Band. Their individual performances are great too. Try austin brown Bring Him Home.. Love your reaction. Do enjoy.
Although it's probably not one of their more complicated arrangements, "My Church" is my absolute favourite. I cannot think of any arrangement of any song that's as perfect. I would love for a music professional to break it down. Pleeeaaase!!!!!
Very beautiful song, their performance was outstanding! Absolutely loved it 😍 It’s easy to understand you liking them, definitely looking for more! As I said in part 1 I feel exactly the same about VoicePlay, you describe them just the way as I do with VoicePlay. Have fun with your follow up, and Wooooohoooo you’re doing VoicePlay - see I watched until the end 😂😂😂
You're breakdown and analysis are great. Subscribed, and welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. As a personal request try "American Pie" featuring the original artist Don McLean.
Just a mention, if you want to hear Tim's full range try will you still love me/ stay, every voice you hear in that is all Tim, and then you love Rob and Austin so I suggest Country boys try Opera.
If you love Rob, you really need to listen to "End of the Road" if you haven't heard it yet. Rob goes to church on that one. It one of Home Free's very best and also features Austin.
You would really appreciate "Helplessly Hoping" , one of their best/and Chance gets a lot of feature time.
The big deal with "Helplessly Hoping" is that two-voice unison near the beginning. I don't personally have much use for unisons: not only are they boring, but they're also difficult as !@#$ to pull off, especially with two voices. But I don't think I've ever heard a unison like that one.
Yes...this!
And Mayday for Tim's high range and Chance's lower range.
Amazed
Helplessly Hoping
Brothers in Arms
Best harmonies in order
Please don't listen to this on your own. I really want to hear your reaction to Helplessly Hoping (oh, and Mayday).
Yes! Bring him home is amazing
Tim Sports a barbershop of his own on his solo album, makes me wonder that he's still bearded . . .
@@Karl-Walter 😅😅
Yes! You have to review Bring Him Home on Austin's RUclips channel. You will enjoy it. His musical theater degree shows.
Any Home Free song will blow you away. End of the road is world class
They do a beautiful rendition of "How Great Thou Art". Adam Rupp has a solo in it!
I came here to say the best song showing voices and harmony is how great thou art followed by helplessly hoping. 😁
If you haven't seen their "Man Of Constant Sorrow", that one is great.
"Helplessly Hoping"
"Man of Constant Sorrow"
and (especially if you'd like to hear some unique harmonies) "Mayday".
They are Acapella perfection! They make you "feel" the sound. It reverberates in your soul.
Their new cover "The Driver" is another one that hi-lites Rob in addition to Tim and Chance - emotional tug to the heart the message and of course their gift of presenting it. Thank you for reacting to this one too.

This, for me, was a totally beautiful musical experience!
The first video of Home Free I heard was "When a Man Loves a Woman". O.M.G. The first 20 seconds will melt you.
🥰🥰🥰
You gotta check out Austin's Bring him home!!!
If you want to hear Tim's FULL range, try his solo Will you still love me tomorrow / Stay. The song is all his vocals.
you should hear Rob sing 'End of the Road' you would love it.
This was already a beatiful song, then HOME FREE came along and upgraded it.
Same with "Helplessly Hoping".
To hear another side of Austin (and hear a bit of his musical theater background), go to his channel and give a listen to "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis. Bring tissues. 😍
I could go on all day with this. They have an extensive 150+ catalog (covers AND originals) and not a bad one in the bunch! A ton of great Christmas covers AND originals, as well. Have fun diving into the HF rabbit hole! It's addicting! Lol
If you haven't heard it. You really need to watch their version of mayday.you can really see Tim and chances range
For more of Adam Rupp's "nonharmonica" their cover of "Ain't Going Down, til the Sun Comes Up" is great!
Cannot wait for you to have time to listen to them again.
Psst, you will need tissues on hand.
Tim has a channel of his own and he's produced an album recently. Several of the songs are free on his RUclips channel. They are fantastic coves and will present a Tim that you've never seen or heard before.
great reaction! Love Home Free! subbed because of them! would love to see more Home Free reactions!
i really wish home free would do longer breakdowns in their songs. it sounds amazing. 6:55
This was the prefect video for this song. Adam Chance can do a low bass also. He was the bass in the last group he sang with.
My Maria is a really cool departure from the norm (such as a guitar, bass, and keyboard!) done in a back yard I think during COVID shutdown, as was their Sea Shanty Medley, made TikTok style. I really like that one!
So glad you fell back down the rabbit hole. You need to see Austin's cover of Bring Him Home from Les Mis!!
Glad you're doing Home Free.! Your reactions are great.!
If you want a song that shows almost all of their great talents, look for their Mayday cover.
That final few seconds had a "Kiss from a Rose" vibe!
The best song to hear Ron's voice is their cover of End of the road by Boy's to men.
Adam Chance sang bass in his previos groups I thing the Street side Singerd. He works as a seconf bass but I love his voice and has some great individual performance.
😊 Thank you for this reaction....
Check out Home Free's covers of Crazy, Mayday, How Great Thou Art. I love them.
Absolutely love your reviews and I found these guys from reaction videos. They are fantastic and really cool peeps too
Adam Chance does great instrument sounds too. Check out Can't Stop the Feeling which includes an instrumental interlude.
Brothers In Arms, is amazing.
I wish you would consider reacting to 'Winter Song'. It's a gorgeous song also. Maybe when it gets hot in the near future it could cool everyone down a bit.
Great analysis. I always enjoy hearing yours.
Have you watched their version of "When A Man Loves A Woman" yet? It is astounding.
Check out Austin’s Bring Him Home cover 👍👍👍
the first dance, tough guy scared of girls, girls scared but wishing guys wouldn't be so wimpy. sweet and lovely sights and sounds!!
"Man of Constant Sorrow" showcases Tim -- you must check it out.
"One Man Band" shows off all of them.
Do enjoy.
More!, more HF! I love your reactions and comments.
Although it's probably not one of their more complicated arrangements, "My Church" is my absolute favourite. I cannot think of any arrangement of any song that's as perfect. I would love for a music professional to break it down. Pleeeaaase!!!!!
That harmony riff at the end is an Easter egg for "Kiss from a rose" by Seal.
"Rob & Austin" means Man of Constant Sorrow. But "Helplessly Hoping" is good as well.
Very beautiful song, their performance was outstanding! Absolutely loved it 😍
It’s easy to understand you liking them, definitely looking for more!
Another good showcase for Rob with Austin is "Bless the Broken Road".
Thank you ^_^
Rob has Blues and Gospel when he needs. Do Dreamer LIVE @ The Ryman, you won't be dissapointed
Just a mention, if you want to hear Tim's full range try will you still love me/ stay, every voice you hear in that is all Tim, and then you love Rob and Austin so I suggest Country boys try Opera.
Love to hear your reaction to a resent HF cover of "The Driver", they all get a verse. Really impressed with your reactions.👍🌹
Home Free - When A Man Loves A Woman
is Crazy Good
