People want to own unpredictable dogs like this and are surprised when the " teddy bear" attacks a human being. These rescue dogs like this should be put down. They are potentially deadly and come with no prior history. This is the second case I have heard of just this week. The attack prior killed a small child for absolutely no reason or provocation.

One was a little 2 year old girl, I remember everyone was looking for her and they kept walking right by her and didn't even know it, the policemen said he thought it was an old dirty rag doll but it wasn't it was the little girl a pitbull had scalped her and slung her around . the policeman got her and rushed her to the hospital but I don't think she lived the neighbors that lived behind me a pit bull came into their yard and attacked their granddaughter and bit her Face-Off . They rushed her to the hospital she did live but with terrible scars all because of a stupid Pitbull . I also remember that one terrible story on the news a older woman had 2 or 3 pitbulls they killed her and ate her.. There are so many more cases like these. If it was any other animal it wouldn't be tolerate.
That whole breed needs to be destroyed.
I got bit by a dog less than a year . I was just out riding my bike , so I know how bad it hurts, my leg still hurts now and then and it has like a permanent bruise there.

Mauling someone over placing a sweater is not normal dog behavior. It is a massively disproportionate reaction; the equivalent to a human severely beating someone for accidentally bumping them on a subway. A proportionate response would have been to wiggle away or even growl. A dog with that low of a bite threshold is dangerous. Euthanasia is definitely the right option.

Not sure if this is good advice, but there are videos on Facebook saying the best way to get a dog to let go is by gagging them. Their gag reflex could work in your favor if they are wearing a collar, you basically have to strangle them in a certain spot with their own collar by pulling up on it. This MIGHT make the dog naturally gag and open his mouth some at the same time and give you a second to get away. In dog fights, they will fight to the death. I have heard of dogs fighting with their guts hanging out and they are still going at it. I think this is why the gag reflex could save someone someday.

WARNING SIGNS but again uneducated owners owning dogs.. this is the end result. It’s sad but so fricken true.
These kinds of breeds need PROPER socialization and that doesn’t mean having some pet your dog for 10 mins or hang out a hand full times. They need to be introduce to everything u can! And not just objects but situations and other environments and once they get timid scared est it’s your responsibility to know how to correct that behavior! Pits get a HUGE wrap because so many people want that. Scary looking dog that they think their small and easy to handle and the answer is THEY ARE so 100 wrong!

Them every single time!! This used to happen to the rottweiler way back in the day. same situation and now more people want that
Mean dog and they try training them aggression and believe that’s all they need the answer is NO!.... these breeds have this type of aggression they don’t need to to be taught it your just making the situation much more worse and harder to control for your self....if you really want that type of a dog you need EXTENSIVE COMMITTED TIME and MONEY! in a proper class for protection where they teach the dog how to turn it off and when to turn it on.
People BABY DOGS and that’s why their are so many attacks even little dogs. 90% of owners who have little dogs don’t expose them enough! If you don’t expose your little dog to big dogs!... your going to have an ankle bitter when you go for walks or out and about .. same with other people I’d you don’t expose them enough..their scared and that’s their reaction to bark and want to bite!
BTW I love pitts I think their marvelous and have come a very long way. I’m surprised too by the breedings which I have learned the ( blue nose ) has been so much that their blood lines are starting to turn bad...

@@kimberlyrose1467 That was a wonderfully enlightening post . Thank you for taking the time to write it . I can see that much more needs to be done in the way of the education of the owner or prospective owner of a pitbull in particular , but in fact of all dogs . .Many people do enter into the ownership of animals with absolutely no idea of how to meet that animal’s needs and no real commitment to doing so . It is so easy for those of us who are not knowledgeable to take the superficial popular view of pit bulls . I am sorry to have done so since I strongly believe that it is our responsibility to treat all animals in the same manner as we ideally treat children . Both animals and children are innocent , helpless , and in need of the best love , protection and care we can give . They need as well to be educated and firmly guided in order to live well in society .I hope I cause no offence in putting children and animals in the same category , but believe it to be correct in this case .

More often then not its actually due to brain abnormalities in the breed. Its not just them either, alot of the breeds regarded as more guarded and territorial suffer from them, same as people who go on to be serial killers, they show similar brain abnormalities and have similar forms of brain damage, so there is a link between that violent behavior. Not the case for all attacks, but a majority of them. They also weren't bred for fighting other dogs, but for hunting and capturing livestock. They were bred to be hunters, hence needing a bite that would restrain or inflict injury, a build to withstand a throttling from feral cattle and the like, and stamina and speed to keep up with a hunt. They were a working breed, they weren't meant to be your children's best friend, and when working breeds aren't put to work thats when problems ensue and lead to a whole host of behavioral problems. We bred the breed to a point where it can't even fulfill its true purpose anymore and it instead is plagued by literal defects. And this doesn't just apply to Pitts, if a dog is bigger than your child it automatically sees it as prey or a play thing, much like it would a wild animal smaller than it. Doesnt mean it wants to eat it but it brings on natural instincts to hunt, much like with cats and string, hence why they tend to be more rambunctious around kids, they bring on that same endorphin rush they get on a hunt when they chase them. They still love your child, but the same with cats when they chase after a mouse, they get all intuned to their instincts even if they've never lived a life of hunting being a necessity. We forget this about animals. We may love them and they may love us but they will always be a slave to their instincts. Someone said this dog was a rescue so we don't know what this dog endured.

Yeah well, someone made that poor dog the way he is...he's a rescue and there's a huge chance he was quite abused and neglected.
The lady who tried to put the sweater on him isn't really the one to blame for his reaction per sey but you got to use extra caution with animals who have a history of shit owners and not try to make an animal wear or do something it obviously doesn't want any part of.

There is more to the story. That dog looked scared. I would venture to bet although the wife was trying to be loving, the father or son may have abused or even tortured the dog with abuse, or even bating with material over the head. Causing a panic response. Most dogs attack out of fear of injury or repeated harm. Find the trigger and you find the abuse. Find the abuse and find the abuser.

If your dog tries to bite your face of just because you put clothes on them then your dog is a psycho. I've never heard of an incident like this with any other breed and many dogs (not all) seem to even enjoy being dressed up occasionally (mine certainly do because it is cold as heck during the winter).

Why does a dog living in florida need a sweater??? This is just an awful incident but I have more sympathy for the dog. Dogs have a coat of fur/hair, they do not need additional clothing unless your living in a really cold environment. I've seen so many videos & pictures online of pet owners' dressing up pet, most dogs find these incidents humiliating, be aware of your dogs body language. A dogs body shouldn't be covered because they use body language to communicate with other dogs and owners. A dog owner should be able to recognise the instant their pet shows signs of anxiety/stress.
