Dogs do t have a job, he was killed on the porch. These dogs exerted an extreme level of violence, that could easily be turned against a child. If they bit and chased him away fine, it that's an awful lot of savage force to kill someone

The fact that they would even think of putting dogs down like that is insane especially if the dogs protected their home and family from a intruder. Those dogs deserve a steak and bones!

Just from this story it's hard to tell how much they thought about it, or if they did at all. The quarantine is a standard blanket procedure for dogs that bit someone, regardless of circumstances. I think the reasoning is dogs with rabies will likely bite people, so we will screen any dogs known to have bit someone by quarantining them for 10 days. By the end of that they can easily tell if the dog has rabies or not, I'm guessing.

Meh, it’s my opinion that people shouldn’t own vicious dogs. Especially in a populated neighborhood. If you need 2 vicious pitbulls to protect your doublewide then your probably mentally ill and not capable of controlling said vicious animals. Only a matter of time before they tear a child’s face off. Those dogs don’t care if it’s a criminal or an innocent child, they just want to get ahold of some human flesh and tear it to pieces. Regardless he was someone’s child, criminal or not he was a fellow human. Yes he was stealing probably not contributing to society more than likely taking from society. You can feel sorrow for his death without condoning his actions. The dogs did what their instincts told them to do, they did their job, great dogs. My stepbrother had an intruder that got mauled by his pitty. He survived but got caught because he went to the hospital. Diego got treats loved on and commended by the police department for standing his territory. Showing compassion for his family’s loss and grief doesn’t mean you approve of his actions.

I worked with a young man in NC in 2004 who owned a Pitbull. He said his name was "Snack." I said, "Jonathan, why did you name him Snack?" He said, "Because that's what your ass is if you break into my house."

We had to put down my dog because she attacked another dog. In our yard, the neighbor dog jumped on my nephew who was 2 at the time. My dog didn’t like that and went after the other dog. It just needed stitches on its ear but since my dog was a pit, of course it was my dog in the wrong.

Have you considered campaigning to have the rule changed? It would be an incredible tribute to your dog if you were able to stop another family going through that 💕
It wasnt an “option” so much as that was what a bunch of people assumed. Every single state has a required quarantine period (10 days) for rabies vector pets that bite someone, regardless of whether the resulting injury is a pinprick or being torn limb from limb. Most animal control agencies wouldn’t even suggest putting the dogs to sleep in a situation like this unless the owner expresses that they no longer want the dogs.
I don’t see nothing wrong with what the dogs did. They did everything right for protection their owners.

Those dogs are the goofiest boys. They’re heroes. it makes me sad that the man was only 21. He threw his entire life away (literally) he was so young it’s sad this is the path he chose to go. It cost him his life.
Unfortunately in a lot of these cases, they would put the dogs down and hold the owner's liable. There have been stories of burglars breaking in and getting bit and then suing the homeowner. It's appalling!

I definitely feel safer having a dog in my home. He barks like a lunatic when people walk by our front yard, and even though it’s a little annoying when are sitting in the same room, I am very glad he feels the need to protect our home.

Dogs on property should be able to defend their home (too). I stop demonizing pit bulls, any dog can be abused to the point of becoming aggressive--same for humans and most living things.

A dog should never be put down for protecting their owners in any situation.
And old man eating tigers in Asia should be left alone. Humans who do not understand animal nature should be fed to them... but that is not how it works out.
When an animal learns how easy it is to kill a human, they will repeat the behavior. Acceptable in war, unacceptable in a civilian zone. I worked with a guy from India. He killed 2 man eating tigers who came around and ate people. Once they start, they do not stop until they are put down.
He was of a lower caste, but had the respect of all above. He could look the Bhramin in the eye, with out penalty or fear.

So, dogs are not like humans. They can actually smell chemicals in our brains let off by our emotions. A dog is going to know if your scared, sad or angry. And most importantly, they can sense wether your intending to harm them or someone they care about.
Admittedly, a used dogs DO struggle with this due to trauma from past experiences. They might often perceive something to be fearful of when they is none. That’s why you hear about abused dogs commonly being more likely to maul people. They’re acting out of fear, not out of malicious intent.
Also not all pits go for the throat, And not all non-pits don’t go for the throat. Dogs are a victim of circumstance. If a dog has been taught to be scared of people and to kill in dog fighting rings and such, then yea, that dog is probably going to lash out if it feels it’s life is in danger. You would do the same thing.
Believe it or not, Felines go for the throat 10x as often as canines. you only don’t hear about house cats killing people outright because of their size, But more people die to cat bite infections than to dog attacks every year. So try to do your research before you judge. Pit bulls are not evil, we as a society have just failed them as a breed by ignoring the fact that criminals have been using them to kill each other for entertainment for so long. Pit bulls where once one of the most loved breeds, and actually where incredibly good with children. It’s our fault that the wrong people where aloud to have these dogs, not the dogs and so the dog shouldn’t have to pay for it. They’ve suffered enough already at the hands of those people.

It's sad that because of the bias towards Pit Bulls we see, people felt like they had to be concerned about the dogs being put down for defending their home from an intruder. Thankfully, it doesn't seem like them being put down was even considered in this story. Also, for people that see this story and think they should get a Pit Bull for home protection..that is not the best idea. Not that they can't be trained to or that they will not protect you, but Pit Bulls not supposed to be human aggressive or used for those things. They were bred for hunting and fighting purposes such as wild pig hunting, bullfighting, ratting, dogfighting, etc. If you want a dog as a personal protection dog or a guard dog, there are breeds that are more suited for those purposes that have been specifically bred for that. For example, the Doberman and the English Mastiff.
The hatred against pitbulls is real. I've dealt with a lot of animals especially dogs and I have to say that while pitbulls have the potential to do more damage due to their build, I'm actually more wary of blue heelers, huskies, and any dog whose not properly trained and had their needs addressed.
@@maximesaindon3552 Facts. Pit Bulls are more powerful dogs, so they can do more damage if they go on the attack, but you are not the first person I have heard say they have more trouble with other dogs on average.
Well, it seems like it actually wasn't ever on the table for these pitbulls, either. People assumed them getting held by animal control was them detaining the dogs, or something, but it really is required for any dog attacks at all, even a single bite. It's just an observation period. Sheriff's office had to put out a statement that they had no holds on the dogs to clear up confusion.

I'm about to edit my comment. Thanks. Though, I have heard of instances where a Pit Bull hurt a home intruder, and authorities wanted to put the dog down. We've had German Shepherds for 50 years. Never had a break-in, ever. All but one were really friendly. You don't have to train them... they instinctively know if there's trouble. We have barely scratched the surface of the intelligence of a dog. They are truly amazing!
Same with my pitbull. One time, our neighbor's kid tried jumping the fence to get a football. My dog almost lunged right at him.. usually, those 2 are beasties. But the fact someone came into the yard.
Insane that people get mad at a dog for defending its home. They think they're a danger to society and should be killed just because they attacked someone who was actively threatening them and their family? So dumb

I agree, we have 2 K-9 German Sheppard's, and someone broke into home forcefully, our 2 Sheppard's immediately when into attack mode, and the intruder was bitten several times, and the idiot, had the nerve to try and have our dogs taken away from us. This didn't happen, and we are not in the least bit sorry for our dogs biting this burgler. He was tried and found guilty.
