DIY: How to Replace Shift Boot

Replaced my stock pleather shift boot (6 yo) with a Strut King leather shift boot. Took about 20-30 minutes from start to finish.
Tools:
Plier
Scissors
Torx screw driver
Trash bag
Zip tie
I was very skeptical at first when you said to just yank the cover off by the top. But it worked just fine.
Very helpful!
TheKepis21 glad it helped!
She was fortunate because the retaining clips did not come off. 3 out of 4 fell off mine. Still trying to find the one. It has been an hours so far. Anyway the rest was good.
Thank you. Changed my shift boot in 5 minutes thanks to your video. Wasn't sure what to start prying on first lol.
Some boots come with the plastic bracket but I like that you included a guide on how to fit it in 👍
Do you know where I can get one from?
@@newguyxander8769 Amazon has a bunch, you just have to search for shift boots
Right after the shift boot starts cracking, the next thing that will wear out is the leather grip around the shift knob. If this ever happens to you, i recommend you replace it with the OEM civic r-type shift knob. It costs a little more than the fake aftermarket replicas (or even the original one), but it will give you a very different feeling when you shift, it looks a lot better than the civic si knob and it will never wear out.
jramc89 luckily, the leather around my stock shift knob is doing fine. i swapped it out with a arc titanium shift knob for a year or so but in the summer the knob got way too hot. thanks for the suggestion though!
Not true the si shift knob weighs 220 grams. Its a damn good shift knob. Idk.about the type r but the si knob is really nice upgrade for the rsx's and civics
@@christianhuffman7440what's not true? the fake leather will fail, just like it did on the boot, you think it will last for eternity?
Thank you! Totally accurate, very helpful in changing out my daughters 10 y/o boot.
glad it helped!
Very helpful, thank you! I love how easy the Si makes this to do!
Thank you very much! The shift boot in my 02 civic broke loose from the plastic piece that attaches to the center console and I was trying to figure out how to fix it myself. Now I have a much better idea of what I am doing! ;)
+SoraShadowdancer no problem! glad the vid helped.
SoraShadowdancer gtttt
Very helpful. We changed it on my daughter's 2006 civic without problem
Thank you! Awesome tutorial video, just changed my 15 year old boot!!
Great vid. I almost took off the whole larger console panel instead of just the shift boot panel before watching this, haha.
TheSchiddy glad you didn't have to do extra work. that would've been a pain.
jennizerr I also almost made that mistake. ;O
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for posting this. I just installed mine today using your video as a guide.
np!
holy shoot
i pulled on my boot, thinking it would be the same, but then the entire surrounding console piece came out with it.
i was scared for the first few seconds; pretty sure i had just screwed my interior up
to my surpirse its supposed to come out like that because the boot is screwed into that piece.
thanks for the video, i never would have pulled up on the boot.

Isnt it funny how every time you make a little mod to your car like led headlights or anything else your car just feel faster lol

Thank you. This helped me change mine out today.

Thanks for posting this, it helped out.
Jason Barre no problem!
Nice video. Do you know if the hookup is the same for a 2006 Civic DX? Thanks!
Ha got a Civic si and this helped a lot thanks
What about the 5 speed knob? It’s a plastic shifter? How do you take that off?
Very nice, but why didn't you tack it down like factory
This was incredibly helpful. Thanks
So you own a civic but don’t have zip ties ? How do you do it?

A girl who drives manual is rare
Not in uk
not in the rest of the world you should say, haaha
Another reason to hate America...
My daughter insisted on a 6 speed. She loves her Civic Si. Thanks for the help with the boot removal.
Jtnawesome not americas fault . If we don't wanna drive it we don't have too .
Try to find the trim clips quickly as they fall in the console and are hard to find.
Thanks, this helped me. 🙏
Thank you ❤️
very helpful ..
Nice tutorial, very nice and usefull
youre a honda girl. i like you even more...
but you have a ring on that finger. so lifes over
You're a honda girl, I don't like you at all...
Lol tf are you doing on a Honda replacement video then??
Hi! Do you know if it’s the same process for a non-si civic from the same generation?
Where to buy ?
Very nice video. I ordered a shift boot from Andy's auto repair. And a skunk2 shift knob. I noticed you didn't staple the new boot to the old bracket. Does the boot stay put with pressure from the bracket to the outer silver frame?
it did. i had to cut the shift boot so that it sat flush on the plastic ring and there was enough pressure keeping the boot down that i didn't have to staple it. also, i didn't have a staple gun handy.
You American Girls!! Honestly!! Is there nothing you can't do? Don't you realise that was a man's job? :) :)
Just pulling your leg....good for you! :) Good filming and commentary too.
No Axe
I just paid 180 for the shift knob you took off lmao
Hey can you please help me out! Where did you get that shift boot from? A lot of the ones I see on websites for civics 2006-2011 I see reviews of people that they are poor quality. Mines has ugly rips so I need a new one, help me out (:
i got the shift boot from strut king. check their website or ebay store. it's good quality and real leather. hasn't ripped on me yet!
Thanks! Was it the $22 or $30 one?
it was $30

what size torx screwdriver
Hi! I'm wondering where did you get your shift knob?please &thanks
hello, the shift knob came stock on the car.
Its a nice shift knob! I want one
Which car are you driving?
Did you staple it back in?
welcome :)
Good Video...
thanks hope this helped
What did you use to cut the boot and how do you know how much to cut?
+Carson Clark i used kitchen shears and cut a little at a time until it fit.
Nice
Looks as if the gaiter is hanging rather than fitting up against the bottom of the gear knob.
how do i get that black ring go under the stock knob? that black ring is under that thing that keeps it from going up. showed 0:32
do you mean how do you keep the black ring at the base to go under the shift boot? it should fit over the ring...if it doesn't then the shift boot is the wrong size for your car.
SIsmiley07 I'm still on my stock boot and that black ring can't freely come off, it's only freely moving under that base where its suppose to be sitting.
my stock boot was only stapled to that ring. it came right off once the staples were removed. what kind of car do you have?
mines is zip tied to the boot in the inside like everyone else's. Same car like yours i think, fg2
flip the stock boot inside out, cut the zip tie off, slip off the small black ring, flip the new boot inside out, slip the ring back on and zip tie it to keep it in place. then flip the boot back. i think that's what you're asking.
I am looking for exactly the same plastic collar on ebay, but I cant find. Can you help me?
Thanks ;)
Hey where can I order the same shift boot as yours?
Thanks
LifeGiven i got this off ebay from strut king. check out www.strutking.com too if it's not on ebay anymore.
Ok thank you :)

You sound beautiful, and great job!
