  • This video will show you how to create a mold to pour your lead weights onto the crab snare bait cage. There's many mold options out there, but this version works best for the Moon Snares. In the next video, we will go over melting lead weights. Keep an eye out for that upcoming video!

Also a tip the no one has thought about is make it out of plaster of Paris or whatever it’s called. You can make molds with it. But cut a block of wood for the shape of the mold you want. Just make sure you wrap your piece of wood with a little bit of plastic wrapping so you can just pull it out of the plaster. You also have to make a box border outta wood so you can make a square for the mold you want and so you can make the thickness you want.

Everybody knows you're supposed to use a yellow box cutter or it will never work!
Very informative Moon. I use the same thing to make my molds but in our little town the lumber yard only had 1/2 inch thick sheetrock so I can only go so deep and I have to be careful. Oh well, it was free!
I was down in the city the other day and when I was at Lowe's I completely forgot to see if they had a broken piece of sheet rock that was thicker.
I think we got a lot of info from the same people when we first started making snares.
You just took it to another level.
Good video with a lot of info!!

Plaster of paris is easy and works the same. No carving.

Thanks for the info, I suggest you look into mold putty for your casting molds.

Hey there Moon. You kind sir are very appreciated.
What's the thickness of the drywall size your using?
Next Q ? If we can't source thicker dry wall
Can we glue two pieces of dry wall pancakes together ?

I believe the drywall is between 3/4 - 1ft in width. I tried to find thicker ones at Home Depot, but they didn't have it in smaller quantities. You can glue 2 pieces together, but you have to clamp both pieces down tightly. Otherwise, the lead will seep through the drywall and ruin the cast. Good luck!

What type of snare would you recommend for someone that would like to buy one from the store? What has been the most effective brand and/or model? I have too many other hobbies going on and would rather buy a snare than take the time to make them. Thanks

Thanks for the support brother. Here are your 2 best option. You can buy the snares at the store, but most won't have lead weights on them. If they do sell a snare with lead weights on them, the weight is nowhere heavy enough. You would have to attach a 3-4oz sinker to the snare to give it some weight. Check the link below. Option 2. If you are anywhere near Pacifica Pier, take a walk on the pier. You will come across some vendors selling snares with lead weights already melted onto the crab snare; which is more effective.

I’ve seen a lot of your crab snares and comparing with others. None of them are not better than your homemade snares. Do you sell them by a chance?

I am truly humble for the compliments. Thank you so much! I do sell them. Feel free to send me an email request to thejoyoflivingcalifornia@gmail.com and I'll email you over a catalog. Thank you again for the support to the channel.

Is that sheetrock that you are using for your molds?

Just take a flat pice aluminum and some small aluminum angle cut to make a small box the size of the cage and rivet the to the sheet of aluminum .instant mould.

Nice video but way to long on speeded up shots.
