Acid reflux and leg cramps every night on the AT until a fellow hiker gave me a few packets of original Alka Seltzer, magnesium in the Seltzer takes care of leg cramps and the bonus is I never had reflux at night again.
I heard mustard works for leg cramps

Thank you as always for your candid honesty. I love the disclaimer that what works for you doesn’t work for everyone else. While I use some of the same equipment, I use it because it works for me. Like you, I’ll carry heavier for certain things (namely a good nights sleep on my thick ass pad).

Good to see you! You are so right that what works for one may not work for another. I’m still new at it and my gear is very entry level but I think that’s a good place to start…for me, lol. One thing I don’t compromise on is socks and footwear. Most traditional day hikers have that part figured out and I’ve been at the day hiking all my life. Thanks for the informative video.

I watched and really enjoyed all of your videos since you started the PCT. I've been backpacking for 58 years and still learn from your and other thru-hikers videos. I also use Altras and sacrifice durability for comfort. Before I toss a pair I cut out all of the usable mesh fabric and use it to make patches for the next pair. The patches work well where your shoes are blowing out. I glue the patches to the inside of the shoe. These patches will last until the rest of the shoe is worn out.

Nice! I like an umbrella too. Snapped a couple of its joints in the wind before Wrightwood on the PCT. Ended up reinforcing them all with some thin gauged wire and have never looked back.

RUclipsr's tell you to buy certain gear because either they are getting a kick back or they already own it and need content for that week's episode.

Nice gear loadout there is a lot of hikers that say if you don't have the high end light weight gear your not a hiker. If it works use it. Stay safe my brother

Great point, everyone is different and different gear will work for different people (and also different hiking environments). For example I can’t sleep on air mats, only foam mats works for me. Of course the r value is not as high so Id have to bring two mats or pack some cardboard for extra insulation below my sleeping mat.

Unfortunately for me the new Lone Peak design change rendered them too narrow in the toe box for me. I even tried the wide which was just wide in all the wrong areas and the upper was sloppy. I had to switch to Altra Olympus. Hopefully they won’t change them. The generous toe box and the extra sole cushion is nice. Injinjis toe socks under DarnTough mid socks = zero blisters. Shoes are definitely important to get right for your personal need.

Great gear follow-up. Understand your thoughts on "gear review" but you gave good perspective, not like others trying to sell something. What are your thoughts on your drone? So hard these days with restrictions. Wondering if worth keeping in photo gear these days even though can work hard and get off restricted land to try and get a glimpse of amazing scenery. I also understand the limitations since we all go to remote places to get away from technology and enjoy the peace and quite .
I never thought I would see you in a pair of yella shoes! I remember when you were bumped on the AT at having to get a blue pair!

Hey man just rewatched some of your videos from old faithful. This is random but my in laws worked in the Tetons and I begged them to go to old faithful and after going I immediately regretted it. Glad u had the same option. It’s cool but damn. All the yellow people, now I know how Yellowstone got it’s name, all the yellow people standing in the way looking at nothing. Love u man
