Just got my first kit (E-drum kit) And boy, drums are not as easy as I thought they'd be. This warmup in itself is extremely humbling to my previous expectations and has brought my view of drumming to much higher standards, let alone respect for this instrument. Something that seems so simple, yet, when you do it for the first time, it's one of the hardest thing's you've ever challenged yourself to do. Thanks a million for your generosity in sharing these lessons with us. I will be coming back to this video and most likely many more of yours to jumpstart my journey in drumming. Again, thank you, sir.

What amazing teaching content is available online now! I am a 55 year old guitarist and pianist . I just bought a kit 2 weeks ago and already I can see progress. I wish stuff like this was available when I first started learning guitar back in 1982.A big thank you to all of you on-line instructors .

    • @TomLaios
      @TomLaios 8 месяцев назад +2

@@joudawal2973 set the metronome very slow.Keep the sessions short.Don't overstress. Choose a passage that is just beyond your ability ,for me it is the"Run to the Hills " intro, and hitting an open hi-hat on the 3 and, in a basic groove. At the end of each session , I think of it as the fun reward,I play the tricky parts to measure my progress.Sometimes it seems you go backwards , but you are always improving .Hey, just remember ,we do this for FUN! Enjoy yourself.

@@TomLaios oh sound cool, yes i agree with you slow tempo can lead to a powerful control, and I can't thank you enough for reminding me to have fun cause lately I've been struggling with this instrument, and I stressed out many times cause I thought that's I'm not improving!
      Thanks again sir!

I am 70, retired a year ago. Guitar player for many years. Bought my first Bass last year. Have built up a simple home studio. I was going to buy a pad controller to get drum sounds for recording. Bought a drum pad and got it a few days ago. I want to build up some control before I buy an electronic drum set. Acoustic drums would be too loud for my situation. Videos like this are very helpful. Playing an hour or two a day mostly trying to build up a decent single stroke roll, something I had never heard of five days ago. This is fun. I like this lesson in particular. Thanks.

I started playing drums at 45. I had been playing guitar for 30 years, as a hobby. It js just so much fun and made me listen to music in a whole differerent way. Playing as a guitarrist/singer in a band drums used to be just timing and click for me. Now even when i listen to music I instantly analyse the beat, pay attention to fills etc. It’s amazing.
Compared to playing guitar, as a method of relaxation, drums are way different. One of the very few things where you do not use your eyes at all! One could be blind, would not really matter.

It's 30 years since I picked up a pair of sticks, this really hit the mark for me, thank you.
I wasn't sure where to start , so I have been practicing my singles, doubles , triples and paradiddles on a practice pad until I got myself a kit.
Nice little Gretch Catalina , replace skins more suitable for home practice, much advice from my local drum shop and many friends and, voila, straight in with the beginner 5min warm up , which is plenty for me to work on , for now at least..

Maybe it's just me but I think the 3rd exercise is more challenging than the 4th one. The bass drum and hi hat pattern just throws me off on that one. Wish I was as good as Jared or some of the other drummers I've watched. I'm more of a guitar player but would love to be as equally comfortable on the drums as I am on guitar, like a duck in water. I've discovered a lot of Amazing drummers like Bernard Purdie, Sugarfoot, JoJo Mayer, Dave Weckl, I could go on. Sorry for the rambling, Thank you Drumeo for all of these videos. The best RUclips channel ever!

They really do help. Heck, I've been playing 40 years, and I still like his warmup routine. There are others, but for a quick warm-up before a gig, or session, this works great. Take your time!!! Go slow, speed up Slowly. If you're comfortable, go faster by 5 bpm, or 10. once that's clean move up, and so on. Take your time, relax, breath, and you Will get better faster! Good Lucifer...I am SOOOO out of practice! LOL! I felt like a beginner again. :) Last time I got to play my old Rogers kit was about 17 years ago...and then only off and on for a year...with another 6 or 7 year pause before that! Had some money and live in an apartment now, so I got myself an Alesis Strike Pro kit almost a year ago. Have only played a bit now and then (rather severe firbromyalgia...so hour long sessions, even half hour long ones, just aren't possible), usually just playing one or two songs of my youth (AC/DC, Cinderella, Motley Crue, Poison, etc). I know them...still...like the back of my hand. But found myself floundering with simple crossovers and such. Chalked it up to "a bit rusty" and not having/getting to warm up enough. Just tried to do this warm up...wow! O_O Total eye-opener to just how much you loose a skill when you don't use it!
Anyway...got the Drumeo "Best Beginner Drum Book" to see just how much I forgot. The answer? FAR more than I thought! Got to re-forge those muscle-memory neurons I think! LOL!
I must admit...I do feel pretty giddy about being able to "learn and improve" all over again! It's like I traveled back in time 35 years! :D Rock on and let the good times roll I say! 🎶🥁🤘

Great video, and I'm certainly going to try and use it. Though I'll have to adapt it as I only have one tom. IMO there's no way that last exercise is a warm-up for beginners. Double strokes are the fastest way around the kit, but after 18 months of playing I'm still way off being able to play anywhere near that speed and fluency using doubles.

      Yeah it was pretty hard

Use it as a benchmark! Practice every day and you'll get faster. Then one day you'll look back at your comment and realise how much you've improved!

This 5 minute exercise is a clean road from 'beginner' to 'not yet intermediate but also not quite beginner anymore'.

I REALLY can't get the hang of the 3rd exercise! I´ve looked at the sheet music and it´s as if Jared is playing something COMPLETELY different to what´s on it. Waaaaahh! Bewildered!

I have a suggestion: Can you please roll back on the loud intro? Before I started the video, I grabbed my headphones like suggested, and then I get blasted with some loud rock music before a fairly quiet talking level lesson. Otherwise, thanks for the great video!

Have been doing this warm up for months and love it...still can’t do the final exercise perfectly. I like to think it’s because of the heavy rubber pads on my kit but maybe it’s because I’m a pants drummer
