It’s a shame his knowledge would pass right along with him…..someone should definitely sit and listen to all this fella has to offer…just like my grandpappy!!!! Smart guy for sure!!!
Good video Ed, so many problems that could solved with a little thought, cam center very important!!, sonic check very important, you can always offset the bores, that would make a great video, thanks Ed from a kid of 69 years lol.
What a awesome day it would be to spend a day with Ed! These guys are getting far a few between Just the tricks they've forgotten would be priceless.🏁🙏❤️
11:06 the over pressure relief could be opening, or cam bearings and i don't care for a high volume oil pump either, unless the clearances are wide. First thing id do is try thinner oil, then if that has poor outcome, try 20w50
You couldn’t have gave a better example on high vol pump and the egg beater. I think we’ve all seen that one. If I had been in the market I would’ve bought the idea and had problems so glad to learn.
@@stevewalters6853 I understand core shift but I'd never seen it like that and never heard it associated with small block Chevys so I wanted the backstory...
@@2packs4sure Ohh ok I’ve always known about it because I’ve got a lot of SB’s and some are really bad shifted. As far as what applications that might be used for idk but I’m fixing to use one that’s bad shifted and bored .060 for a wrecker which of course will be low RPM I’m hoping it will be okay but I am concerned about overheating. It wasn’t sonic checked for thickness on the thin side so we’ll see.
I've got a question, have I missed the video where Ed talks about early Hemi's? ( Gen 1 ) There's one in the background. Honestly I don't care what he's talking about! SOLID GOLD!
That’s how it was taken. 👍 I made the same comparison to Ed in his presence, and he was very gracious and humble about that idea. I will tell you it took a couple years of talking to him before he decided he was willing to start letting go of some of the things that he has kept to himself for so many years.
I wonder if anyone ever used nickel filler wire, and a tig welder to give heads casting #'s ? Seems its possible, with work. Some grinding, filing, and acid etching. Maybe a needle scaler to get that cast look. Maybe a bit of sand blasting. Then paint the inside of the head. Definitely a milling machine could get the numbers all even, it could turn a set of dart, or bowtie heads into a set if 70's smog heads by the #'s haha . probably the cadting marks also. Id hate to remove the bowties from s set of heads tho.. going from a set of 75 1/2ton truck heads to a set of dart heads would double the power!😂
You are a very intelligent man and id love to subscribe to your channel but there is no subscribe button. Did I look good enough. I don't see it. Thanks for all your great videos
People nowadays are not Mechanics... they're part replacer's! Our youngest just got a 3000gt overheating & a leaking radiator. He said "i need to save for a new one." I told him "how do you know, you haven't tried to fix it?" 🤯 Then i started thinking & asking people if they new anyone who has fixed a radiator? NONE!... How about a starter,...alternator... anything??? Parts are 50/50 shot you'll have to return to parts store after installing & removing A NEW ONE!!! 😡 I TRY TO FIX EVERYTHING, cause chances are you'll be changing it again within a year 🤔(maybe twice! )
Wow, your comment is dead on! I think that’s why guys like Ed Smith and Allan Travis are fascinating and people like them is there a first thought is to repair not replace… And repair means take everything apart until you find the part that needs to be fixed!
He is definitely someone that I would love to spend time with talking about old car stuff and building engines. He is his own book of knowledge.
It’s a shame his knowledge would pass right along with him…..someone should definitely sit and listen to all this fella has to offer…just like my grandpappy!!!! Smart guy for sure!!!
He is a classic character that Ed. He has forgotten more than most will ever know. You are the best!
Thanks 🙏 from Ed
Ed you remind me of an old motor guy I used to know straight forward and simple.
Wow!! The knowledge he has .. great Interview!
He is a walking encyclopedia of motors and I'd love to have that hemi in the back
👍👍🙏
Well that’s a
Welcome invite. Ed is the man, much respect to him.
Thanks for the Q&A’s with Ed these video’s are priceless
Glad you like them! Thanks for the feedback 👍👍
ed is just wonderful to listen to i hope you can make more of these
Thanks Ed. Always enjoy your Knowledge with my coffee in the morning.
So nice of you to comment like that. Awesome!

Thank you sir!
@@BarryTsGarage I enjoy the candor and knowledge of the guy"Respect to us old guys!
Thanks again. I love hanging with Ed. My joy to bring you along.
This guy is a thesaurus of engine engineering..What a MECHANICAL MIND HE HAS..
THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL A REAL CRAFTSMAN .
Thank. you!

Thank you I am going to ask Ed to comment more on this 👍
Thanks Ed you are a wealth of knowledge !
So nice of you
I would give my left arm to work/study under Ed. He is a living breathing walking information storage solution. The knowledge he poses is amazing.
Ed you are one sharp cookie, you remind me of the guy who built my last engine Dennis Smyth, Mr Mopar. Machinists like you are few and far between 😊😊😊
Thanks - I’ll pass it along to Ed!
I genuinely love this. It's about as close to sitting down for or a cup of coffee, as I can get with Ed.
Agreed! Thanks!
Ed is a walking encyclopaedia I could listen to him talk all day!
Another great video and learning session ! Thank you !

Thank you! 🙏
Been waiting on this series....great info. Thanks guys.
More to come! Thanks 🙏
Ed is a true legend in the engine world 🏁
Thanks Ed.you must know Jack tant in Littleton nc
I will ask Ed
That was extremely interesting and I'd never heard about that offset casting issue in small block chevys.
I'd like to know the whole story...
It’s called Core Shift I’m sure there is information available about it if you google that.

@@BarryTsGarage Please do !!
Have you guys ever did a segment on the difference between a high volume oil pump and a high pressure oil pump? I'd love to hear that.
Standby for a new episode !
High volume has bigger rotor gears and moves more oil. High pressure just has the pressure relief set to open at a higher pressure.
I really enjoyed that but all of a sudden it was over and I’m thinking where did the time go it felt like I just pressed play two minutes ago 😀🇨🇦
Wonderful - Thank you, Keith!

I will ask Ed to go over it again in the future video, thanks for watching and appreciate you liking and subscribing!
Ed I worked on a friend's stock car bomber class Buick with 430 Cid he could not get timed. I set by ear and ran great until it blew up
Have u ever dimpled the head intake runners like a golf ball, I built a set of heads ,while doing this ,friends laughing at me, ran great
Great question - I’ll ask Ed!
would Love to hear ED'S thoughts on 2-strokes. he's gotta know something we dont
Thanks for bringing up this topic, I will ask Ed in an upcoming episode!
Great channel
Thanks 🙏
Like him for the same reason as I like Millyard
He’s kinda like Smokey Yunick but fully willing to share all the secrets now….
That’s a pretty good description 👍

305 H.O. heads on a 283 is something i wanted to try in something about 2400 lbs, with 4-5speed. And 3.73:1 gear. with a 11:1,. 283.
I’ll ask Ed what he thinks
This m'en is a Legend

It was a 58 or 59 283 truck block the best I remember
Ed have you ever heard tell of a split key way in timing gear to change cam timing
I’ll ask Ed in a future episode 👍
Thanks I believe you make your own key way and off set it
What size blower would he recommend to in installed on a 350 chev with fuelie heads & a mild cam .
I will have to ask Ed! Thanks
Its about port velocity and density, not port size, ED is right !
Thanks!
How can I get ahold of the company in Australia that cast heads?
Not sure it’s still there it’s been years
How do I get Ed's family story book ?
I’ll ask Ed to get busy and write it 👍😁
Nothing to hurt anybody,,
But those were the days. 😅
