With good back pressure and that center pipe is glowing red lol
351 Cleveland uses Windsor mounts. 351 M and 400 are 460 mounts
Definitely v8 😅
Chevrolet's are a lot simpler a lot less b.S.
Lots of experience and knowledge in this fella!👏🏼👏🏼🤠
Ford junk
Hahaha compare it to a 32 Chevy motor…
Inertia batery
Great word
That is too cool!
The two inside cylinders share the middle port
Yup
Flatheads are a compromise between airflow or compression.
That block looks nicely machined brother.😉 Thanks for saving history and treating it with respect.
Thank you sir!! 👍👍🙏
Good, because I just put an aluminum flywheel in my 6 spd Camaro and haven't tried it out yet.
For an OHV V8 with 3 ports get an AMC Gen 1 (e.g. 250, 287, 327) 😃 Just be sure to pay attention to the firing order! 😅
Great comment 👍
Is it a V8 or a V6.....? Its both.........The Heavenly Kid
So Henry,,use two pieces where everyone else uses three, you will see more throughout the fords
It wasn’t just Ford - check out some history of siamese cylinders
The hands of a hard working man !! God bless
This is all about fuel mixture and why a smaller than you think carburetor for the engine performs way better. At the VERY top of the RPM band maybe not but unless you are running wide open 100% of the time, velocity is king.
Exactly right. So many people can’t figure out why they put a bigger carburetor on their car and it doesn’t run any better.
Crank and cam gear driven little short pushrods.Conservation of space.
Also they sound amazing
I'm a freak for simplicity of the 2.6 and the 2.8 60 degree v6. Strangely the 2.6 would bury 7000rpm electric tach with Siamese setup while 2.8 was slower?
Would carbon buildup be more of an issue without the exhaust valves?
The carbon buildup really has mostly to do with good complete combustion in these old engines, so have it tuned right is going to make the most difference on carbon buildup
@BarryTsGarage thanks for the info. I'm pretty familiar with the FE platform, always been curious about the old flathead, just never got my hands on one.
That's the way my MGB is 4 cylinder with three exhaust pipes
Hemi' seem to Get All the ❤, How about an " Max Wedge " Fan Fest 🤔
Will get to it!
My dad raced sprint cars in the fifties and sixties. He loved to play puzzle with motors.
Apparently a lot of fun!
1973 Capri 2.6 v6 has a Siamese port and a single on the head.1974 2.8 three ports per head.😎
Another one!
I had a Plymouth Neon from canada once. With only a light weight flywheel from a rebuild and that car was snappy af for a stock 4cylinder. I took stock vtechs no problem. And nobody could believe it was only because of that flywheel.
A lot of Pontiac headers have three tubes with the center tube being larger to encompass the Siamesed center ports.
And it’s still original. 🙏
Maybe the biggest part of the story 👍👍
I would LOVE to know what the simplest and longest lasting engine is, in the opinions of older mechanics. A lot of people say it's the Ford 300 I6. What do you guys think?
I’ll ask Ed! 👍
YES inline will outlast V tech always.
Really nice car fine congratulations but when I was younger I would say yeah bucket seats but now that I'm older I'm leaning towards the bench seat in the front, Way more nostalgia and plus when you're on a date that she's sitting by the door you can whip the car around and make her slide right under your arm where she belongs if you don't have a ton of crap out of damn seat lol
I absolutely understand, great comment
More exhaust sports would mean more horsepower. I guess not so here
Overhead valve engines were pretty much rare and exotic in 1932… The horsepower this engine put out in its stay was extremely competitive
Henry didn't pass math
Silly comment
Amazing work!!
I remember my dad talking about milling out a channel above the valves for a big cam in his flat head Merc. Said it was for flow, not the lift.
That’s absolutely right, Ed Smith often and regularly does that on flatheads he calls it cutting a relief allowing more air flow between the top of the piston and the valve
This cat is so smart. As always i enjoy listening to so much ❤
Thank you! 😊
Terrible engine
Appreciate you watching, what was a better engine in the 1930s in your opinion?
I've always wanted to port the hell outta a flathead& put a turbo on it. Obviously I've been told it's blasphemy for years..... But maybe one day I'll get around to it lol
Go for it! Ed Smith here on this channel has made a lifetime career of trying stuff often that other people haven’t done or said it shouldn’t be done!
Why couldn’t that be done with all pick-ups?
I agree I think this technology should be very common place, to answer, I would love to hear from a factory body engineer, but I suspect it may have more to do with complexity and cost and or strength? Seems like those could be overcome though.
I think these dam things are nostalgic but that's about it. They can't produce much more than 275 horses N/A nowadays at most. There down fall was that dam exhaust heat to transfer straight into cooling jackets but that's just was the design in those days that was the hot rodding engine of the day they made countless intakes for this motor in the day just to try, and make more ponies, It was unreal. I myself wouldn't want the machining, parts, and maintaining expense and heating problems with a engine like this. I love the way they sound and unique look.
You are a spot on! 100% nostalgic. You might say almost any car more than 20 years old is bested in efficiency and power by newer cars. Yet somehow there is a joy in the hobby, regardless of which era and which engine you decide to get into. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
MAKES PERFECT SENSE
Ed said, that man don't have a clue what I'm saying!
Ha ha ha I do learn a lot from Ed and maybe I don’t take it all in the first time but he’s a lot of fun to hang out with. Thanks for watching!
O ok you are Barry asking Ed those questions. I love it all. Especially joking around with yall old farts!
Great to have you along!
The old Siamese ports gets em every time
Every time. 👍
Like a boat
That is a beautiful piece of History and they sound so amazing
This man is absolutely a wealth of knowledge.. That's a machinist❤
Wow, thanks
When practicality trumped safety every day of the week
Don't forget the 8 lug axles!
Matt Helm !!
High bank speedway engines harmonic vibrations are a big issue, not just horsepower at speed. Minimize vibration in the RPM of continuous operation rather than an overall average. Valve train issues are the most problematic, especially springs.
High quality comment! Thanks 🙏
I have a 1956 buick roadmaster. Where are you located and how much would it cost
