What a wealth of knowledge . I hope that someone of a younger generation is soaking up everything they can from Ed. Thanks to the both of you.
Thank you so much
Ever time I get a chance to hear Ed. Talk I listen.
Love listening to Ed’s stories he has seen it all 😎
Ed is a really likable guy very smart id love to have his engine knowledge.
@richardsmith-qy6vl Ed,In regards to Ford 351 Clev. bellhouseings 70 to 74 Clev. all used smallblock bolt pattern , 351M and 400 used 385 bolt pattern. Hope this clears things up.
Ed, you do remind me of a young Ed O'Neil. Love Ed O'Neil as an actor. Love performance engines too! Thank you
I watch these for every word and always learn more. Barry anyone ever say you look like Al Bundy?
That's not a bad thing!!!!😂😂😂
GREAT to have you along! 👍👍
Built a 307 with a 400 crank for something to do after i retired and has been my daily driver for ten years , there's nothing so fun as messing around with SBC 🙂
Awesome
Every man should have the pleasure of rebuilding a SBC in his man/cave ! Each step shared for everyone to see touch and experience ! It’s a Man thing !
Ed has so much history. Ask him if he would be willing to do a shop tour. As Always Thanks
Will do - thanks 🙏
great content ! so many combinations available in small block Chevys , amazing engine !
Thank you!🙏
My brain is a sponge when Ed talks it's like ancient Egyptian pyramid building once it's gone in history it's gone he's the ultimate legend the man has his first car 65 years later
Wow it is like hearing ancient information that has always been known from the greats an there books.
Good one! Thanks Ed for regularly for taking me back to my young spry years.
Wonderful
My wife's 72 vett is 60 over we've been together 35 years never gets hot and we live in palm springs ca. 118 for monday.
Right on
I always learn lots of things from Ed and I forget what your name is the guy asking them the questions you do a very good job. Also, I like both of you guys. Thank you. Have a good day. Hey, I have to admit. I’m a Mopar guy. This is Jim.Mungai from kennerdell Pa
Hi Jim - I’m Barry (BarryT) nice to meet you! Thanks for joining us.
BTW we cover molar stuff too, from time to time… 👍👍
When you commented on Ford 351 Clev. bellhousing bolt pattern being 460 pattern. The 70-74 351 used smallblock bolt pattern ,351 M and 400 used 460 pattern.
That’s right, Ed said it wrong 🙏
A 307 crank in a 350 block will get you a 327. But the 305 heads will be hindering its potential.
Thanks ed
The Ford FE strokers used the 390 blocks available everywhere where, and the 390 at 4.08 bore and a 4.25 Scat stroker kit was available and made a sweet stroker for cruising and pickups.
The full name of the company TRW is Thompson Ramo Wooldridge. The company was formed in 1958 when the Ramo-Wooldridge Corporation and Thompson Products merged. The name was later shortened to TRW in 1965.
TRW was a company that worked in the aerospace, automotive, and electronics industries. They were a major contributor to the U.S. space program, producing the descent engine for the Apollo Lunar Lander and a third of the satellites. TRW was also the first private company to build a spacecraft, Pioneer 1, which was launched into lunar orbit in 1958.
I have a friend who put 307 pistons on a 305 TPI engine. It peeled and smoked the tires like a 350. At fiat when he told me what he was going to do I thought it couldn't be done..
Kenny Wallace has stated on his dirt track cars. He doesn't want the most horsepower. Instead, what he desired was a quicker suspension set up.
In others words. If a car can't get all that power to the ground in a practical sense. It's not going to win.
The late Scott Bloonquist more than likely didn't have the most horsepower in his cars. He had the the best suspension setup.
Question for Ed. What is the bag of Kingsford charcoal sitting behind Ed in the toolcart for?
I’ll have to ask - maybe a steam car??
What do you think about the dart 372" short blocks ? They are well built with priority oiling . with everything new !
Great question for me to ask Ed about....
Thanks
I don't know if Ed would have much to say on the subject but I'd love to hear his thoughts opinions and experience with the Y block Ford,,, an engine I consider the weirdest mass produced V8 ever..
I will ask Ed about those - thanks 🙏 👍
Ha ha I have lots of Chevys but have always been around "Why" blocks and found them a unique challenge with all of their flaws. Running a 312 presently in a 58'16 foot Century runabout . Its like they have a weird cult following.
@@tklykun9858 Yeah,, it's such a weirdo that it's interesting..
350 block with a 400 crank 383
307 crankshaft in a 350 block is a 327
I think he said 305 heads tho… that’s where Ed wasn’t getting on the train…
I'm pretty sure the 307 was a stroked 283 but with the larger journal crank
Hey Barry can you ask ED if he's used Rev Kits...Cheers from Downunder mate
I will ask Ed! Thank you 👍
Hi I have a couple of 3 liter ford sho engine the bore is 89 mm and I want to increase it's bore to 95mm to make a 3.5 liter out of it so my question is can we bore out the original sleeve in the block And replace it with wet sleeve back in the block?
What time and speed did Ed Smith Missing Link Car do in the quarter mile ?
I’ll have to see what I can learn on that…
Any clearance machining needed? On block?
I’ll ask Ed in a future video to discuss clearancing further 👍
Hi Barry excellent video!
My question is could you if your friends don’t mind sharing a bit about themselves I would love to know how you met all the gentleman and gentlewomen if it applies and what exactly they do and if they kinda all know each other and how you’re channel came about and of course some of your history that is if you don’t mind if you tell me it’s not going to fly that’s fine I completely understand 😀🇨🇦
Thank you, Keith, I will give that some thought… Stay tuned!
Is there any new old stock of the 70s Ed Smith Speed shop hats I would buy a couple if possible he had one on in the beginning of the small block shivvy (Chevy) oiling system prep video
I’ll ask Ed!
The 307 crank in a 350 block makes a large journal 327. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The 305 heads on it is what would suck.305 heads needs to stay on a 305 unless you spend more money on them than they're worth with porting and bigger valves, screw in studs and all the goodies. Why spend that much in shitty heads when you can buy aftermarket for less and make more power.
Im sure if you had ended the question with just the 307 crank in a 350 block and he would have said its fine and makes a large journal 327. Im positive the heads is what he didn't like. He knows they suck too.
Does it still stress the crank with wheel slip grab slip grab if it’s a 350 with a nv 4500 and a newish clutch? From what I understood was the clutch disk springs prevent that.
I’ll ask Ed to say more - yes the clutch is a buffer but is it enough …
There's no clutch in a sprint car@@BarryTsGarage
Driveshaft bolts directly to the crank differential has an in and out box push start no clutch in a sprint car no starter super fast
I bought a zz430 create engine that has lines from water pump to where the drain plugs where! Is this correct? Its all gm performance aluminum wt a single plane gm intake!
I’ll ask Ed
It does not clear 1 and 2 ..5 and 6. Like ED says just grind them all so the balance man has an easy job. Hope this helps .
Very good 👍 thanks for adding that for us
Thank you for your knowledge and videos USA 🇺🇸 TRUMP 2024
