  • @MFEGoingDeep decided to hike into beautiful Gulf Hagas located in Katahdin Ironworks as I thought it might make an interesting video. The waterway itself is actually the west branch of the Pleasant River and was the location of several trout fishing excursions made as a kid growing up. Lots of fond memories here with family and friends. It had been a number of years since my last visit and it was nice reminiscing and seeing some of the familiar sights that hadn’t changed over the years.
This is a quick video as it was somewhat difficult to navigate the turbulent waters in the deep pool below the falls and the dark rocks made it hard to see even with lights. I was able to get to 10’ deep but I would imagine its more. A nice wild native brook trout shows up to give us a quick look, I suspect there were more closer in to the falls but was only able to push in so far.
If you get the opportunity this is a beautiful area to visit and hike! The AMC has done a great job maintaining the trail as the last time I was here it was just a very narrow footpath. It is not super difficult although when at the rim of the gulf care is needed navigating some of the slippery rocks.

Glad I checked back lol Yeah man no idea how to get ahold of ya, but would be happy to show ya. I'm a local lad so if you're ever headed this way I'm always around, if you can reach out somehow in this wildly wonky tech world, we can give it a go lol It's the "Secret swimming spot after work" if you need to see a teaser. 👍🏻

@@MFEGoingDeep How far are you from Newry/Sunday River area? If you wanna get a really incredible video I can show you a truly secret spot that'll blow you away. Hidden in plain sight, easily accessible, but absolutely hidden it is. Deep waterfall basin with underwater cave and tons of trout and sculpin, suckerfish, all kinds of critters. The geology, clarity, and depth are really something. Definitely bring shorts if you wanna go because you'll wanna swim! The river is otherwise shallow with impressive geology, but this is the only super deep hole it has, and it's just not documented.
