I can’t believe how tough that 4.3 was. I’ve done countless head and intake gaskets on babied 4.3s and this one survived 900 degree +egts and 20+psi of boost including directly in the crankcase and survived. Not to mention all the babied 4l60s that go out under 100,000 miles for that one to survive how it did. That was definitely a good one.
@@CompleteToiletGarage haha no kidding. It could have been used for another 100k miles no doubt. Hell that would have been a great candidate for the corvette and turbo it not as cool as the diesel or rare. But it sure would have been a great motor for it in my opinion.
I can remember when there were at least 50 cars and trucks with LS engines in them all the time every time I went to the local junkyard. If you pulled it it was yours for $350. I should have bought all the LS engines that I could have packed into my garage and my shed.
Quality. We did that kind of stuff back in the 90s, we would buy an MOT failure and take it up the park and rally it to death. Usually the chassis or drive would fail then it would get a brick on the pedal till it burst. One time we had a cavalier bouncing off the limiter for 20 mins until the timing belt melted and caught fire, then it stopped!! Most of them would catch fire from the heat of the exhaust. They were happy days, no rules, just try not to kill yourself. All the best.
I believe Chevrolet should send all their prototypes to you boys for testing. 🤣 If that is not a testament to those 4.3 L engines. I don’t know what is.
I thought I saw that truck at Vince's u-pull a while ago. When I saw it, all I could say was "somebody had a field day beating the shit out of this thing", turns out I was right lol
@@CompleteToiletGarage yes indeed, even though I live in Watertown, I go pretty much everywhere from vince's, Kaflines in lowville, Syracuse and pretty much anywhere in between looking for a good deal on used parts. Got to keep my 04 Dakota and 85 Mercedes on the road somehow, not to mention the various Fords hyundais and Chevy's that are owned by various family members.
Transmission fluid fire ill bet, vaporized by heat. That stuff is flammable when vaporized, had a nice experience when I cut exhaust off of a ford truck and nicked the transmission line. First backfire from exhaust lit it right up.
naa it was totally the gas line, you can see it in the slow mo, and that's why the truck wouldn't run after, not enough fuel pressure, could smell it on the ground, and saw the hole in the line.

I had a 1996 GMC Jimmy Santa Fe with 4WD and the 4.3 Vortec and they are well-built and torquey V6s. I mean, Chevrolet had only been making them for how long? They really are a 350 with two cylinders cut off. I always wanted to turbocharge mine, but I didn't want to deal with that spider injection bullshit. I remember how much fun it was to sling that thing around in 4WD in the snow...and my Jimmy was slammed (I had 22" Lexani wheels on it in the summer, but it rocked the stock wheels and tires in the winter).
@@CompleteToiletGarage I hear you. I wish I had kept mine. Because it was lowered it suffered from rotten fuel and brake lines, as well as the tank itself, so I replaced all of them after I broke the plastic lines while removing the tank. I replaced everything, but it never ran right again after that. I sold it a few months later for $1500 and the buyer texted me to tell me that I had the return line routed to the feed and the feed routed to the return, so it would run, but just barely...lmao You can't tell while you're under there because they're both the same size!
