The Soviet Union preferred to keep all information about its spaceflights private until officials deemed it appropriate to release the news. Some never. We knew as much as they were willing to disclose. This is not about 'we' never giving them credit.

@@RBodge1234 I believe i have heard and read that Venus ‘s likely surface temperature hovers around 800 degrees fahrenheit which took about 20 minutes to melt the Venera crafts, which were composed of lead, before snapping and transmitting photographs of the surrounding flagstone-like surface in which the horizon is visible. The American approach was to orbit the planet repeatedly while utilising ground-penetrating radar managing to animate perhaps 80 percent of the convoluted topography of the planet. The individual images of the radar analysis were combined to form a “movie” to simulate the orbiting of swatches of the planet as if viewers were in the spacecraft.

All systems of measurement are arbitrary, and have their uses. The more you know about each one (and how to quickly change from one to another), and how and why they came to be, the better.

I'm not kidding. This - whatever it is - veers here, there, and everywhere, with some of the most ridiculous graphics I've ever seen.
It's the same information repeated over and over again, until it veers into 'explaining' 'retrograde,' and other 'deeply scientific' terms.

The content has NOTHING to do with "why the Soviets kept trying to land on Venus," and 'reveals' NOTHING of their motives for the Soviet missions there - it suddenly veers off into an "exploration" of other planets like Uranus (and IT'S spin and orbit), and I was exhausted with the silliness and horrible attempts at humor about 10 minutes in. The fact that people are too lazy to do simple calculations in their heads, and would rather laugh at a nation as advanced as the U.S., and one of its systems of measurement, says more about the person laughing as it does about a nation that uses both systems.

      Lost the technology is misleading.
While the blueprints for the Saturn V rockets still exist on microfilm at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. However many of the parts used are no longer manufactured, and much of the hands-on expertise has been lost. Meaning that we now use CAD and CAM to manufacture parts. The 'hands-on' machinists, with wild skills I will add, are gone along with the manual machine tools they used.
These engines could be built but it would be very expensive and we would end up with outdated engines. The F-1 engines, were described as being "built somewhat like a wind-up clock," with mechanical triggers initiating various stages of the startup sequence.
