    • @DSaw78
      @DSaw78 6 лет назад

      The main side rails are bigger on the P1 and the pedal mounting/adjustment is different on each. Other than the price that's about it. You can't go wrong with either and the GT1 is fully capable of handling a DD wheel and some motion setups.

      DSaw78 thanks for reply I currently have a simetek k2 which is rock solid but now intrested in motion may require some modding due to its narrow width.

    Ok, you just about have me sold. Im running a Simetik K2 Rig. I wish I would have seen this one first. It seems so easy to add anything i want to it. One thing i dislike about the Simetik was the way the shifter mounts. I had to adapt a 2X4 so that i could move the shifter closer to where I really wanted it.....not ideal but it works fine. I would so love to pick your brain since im seriously considering adding motion. From watching your vids, it seems so easy with this rig.

    Great vid, just built my P1. My cup holder came with tiny bolts that just push through the 6mm T nuts also supplied with the cup holder. Also, the mouse plate had no bolts short enough, luckily had some little washer laying about to space a couple bolts. I wish the mouse plate was silver though, the black finish had marks in it on arrival. They didn't include my keyboard tray or shifter mount, so that's another long wait sadly. It's a quality cockpit though and I look forward to my DD wheel arriving soon. I am tempted to order two 500mm profile pieces so I can mount the pedals a bit lower, actually down in the base frame instead of on top.

    Great vid as always Barry. I'm in Northern VA and been at sim racing a long time and love your stuff! Though truth be told lately it's more fiddling with my gear and configuring "the next upgrade" then actually racing in my rare non-work time, sadly. Can't wait to be retired like you and dedicate more time to it! Maybe even make vids again. I used to make several popular RUclips videos such as Fanatec DIY mods and reviews, triple-screen 3D projection sim setup (now gone for VR), etc.. Anyway if my travels in the pro-AV industry every bring me down your way I'll give you a heads up and maybe we could grab a beer. One quick question about Sim-Lab stuff or similar: My 80/20 rigs have all so far been 15-series, not metric. What I really need to complete the setup is the custom pieces like the wheel deck or dash, adjustable pedal brackets, etc.. (all the water-jet cut aluminum pieces.) Do you know of anyone in the US or elsewhere making similar items for 15-series? Or even if I had to switch to metric, does Sim-Labs do any US distribution or is it all shipping from EU? I supposed hopefully they'd at least sell just the custom brackets to allow me to source and cut the profile more locally for less shipping. Seems to me there would be a market for a similar solution based in the US.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      I have been using 15 and 40 series together for a while now. They are so close in dimensions, never had an issue using 15 hardware on 40 profile or vise versa. 15 is 1.5" = 38.1mm in width, with the channel width being .320 = 8.128mm. 40 is of course 40mm wide with a channel width of 8.13. So yeah too close to matter in use. Only exceptions being if you want to mount something flat that crosses both 40 and 15 series profiles. Not sure how much the 1mm difference on each side of the profiles would matter. And yeah, hit me up at info@simracinggarage.com if you will be in my area.

    Seems very similar to the jcl v2 cockpit. How would you compare the two, + and - of both. Another great video. Thanks for investing the time to do this.

    • @johnpuzzle3414
      @johnpuzzle3414 6 лет назад

      Sorry to butt in, can't speak for the man himself, but I'm considering either of them. As I've 3d-modelled my whole apartment it was easy to see some of the practical differences. V2 was 120cm long vs 140 (P1), but also about 20cm wider than P1. In effect "fatter" than the slimmer&longer P1. Pedalmount for V2 I think was hinged (rotating hinge, is that the right word?) and seemed easier to adjust on the V2. The P1 wheel mount seems alot more elegant and sturdy than the V2. JCL is getting praise for protecting the shipment / packaging. V2 comes in different color combinations (black and red etc), keyboard is also black (haven't seen a Simlab black tray yet), but the Simlab keyboard tray (though silver) looks more sturdy and larger in the videos I've seen so far. Both have about 2 week delay now if ordering right now. In my case, JCL shipment is twice the cost of Simlab; this will vary. So much back and forth, it's confusing :) Do like the P1 wheel mount, not a fan of the huge 140cm though...

    I just need to figure out how to make this cockpit break down quickly and stow when not in use and I'll be pulling the trigger. Fortunately I'm a VR junkie, so no triple screens to worry about, but I still need to move it out of the way in between uses. My current rig is not nearly rigid enough and a DD wheel base seems imminent. This channel has been slowly leading me down the dark side...

    • @markkovalcson7243
      @markkovalcson7243 5 лет назад

      FYI, I did achieve my objective. I have retractable casters on it and I can roll it out of the way. I have the USB cables together in a sheath. I plug in the NLRv3 and wheel base to AC on one side, and my 4 channels of transducers which currently use 8 banana cables will be reduced to single 8 pole quick connect shortly. Very quick and convenient.

    Anyone wanting a cheap option for a seat slider, i used the handles you get with the pedal deck, the ones that you can loosen to slide the pedal mount part back and forwards. I got another 4 for cheap and used then to secure my racing seat (Motamec GT02) to my P1 and it works great. Only issue i had was needing to put washers on the screw part of the handles to make it the right size but that was easy. Anyone wanting pictures drop me your email.

    I am definitely considering this cockpit. I may even add the Next Level Racing Motion V3 which can be done with extra connectors and longer screws, as explained to me by Sim Labs.

    For the side profile that the shifter sits on, why does the longer profile have to sit on top of the shorter upright profile? I understand to support the weight, however, couldn’t you remove the two hole bracket on the rear and slide your 380mm piece up and down along the inside side of the smaller rear upright and secure it with a 2 hole bracket on top and bottom or just a 4 hole bracket that fits on 4040 series and than it has 2 bolts on the bottom and 2 bolts into the 380mm? Hope that makes sense....

    Do you know or can you measure that can I fit my XL sized OMP WRC seat into this rig setup without any special modifications to the width of the rig? I use same type of sparco seat mounts as you did on this video so they curve under the seat a lil bit but my seat is a little wider than normal sized sparco seats for example. I sold my Subaru track car couple years ago for financial reasons and before I did that I promised my self that if I one day to sell it I will build at least sim racing kit so I can keep driving on the track without all the cost that you normally need to pay. I still have my seat and 4 point harness and personal driving gear so I am now looking to buy full Fanatec setup with OMP wheel and that sim lab p1 in black.

I need to separate the monitors from the rig and it will stop. Can you tell me two things please, what is the length of your 1.5x1.5” profile along the bottom that the wheels are attached two? Also, would you mind telling me how many inches of that are to the forward since I se the majority of it is on the front? I was goin to order what I needed from Faztek.net, but was trying to figure out the length. Thanks in advance!!

      I want to add something also. Since it’s attached to my rig currently, the uprights are 1.5x1.5” I have the Richmotech angle brackets and monitor brackets so it holds fine all made of that profile, that’s on the rig though. Should I change the two uprights( maybe the center also) to 1.5x3”? Or should it be ok to just run the uprights I have down to a 1.5x1.5” profile. I have (3) 32” monitors. Your giving an opinion so if it don’t work I won’t say hey you said so. I just would like a second opinion, more so from you as you deal with aluminum profile on a regular basis so you know what it can hold.

    Hi Barry, you run a fantastic channel! Question on the p1: I noticed that you mounted the Quaiffe H pattern on the P1, but how did you do this exactly? With two 80 20 cross bars? And can you think of a solution to simultaneously mount the Quaiffe sequential? I can imagine swapping these is a bit imconvenient.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад

      Yes, 2 40x40 profiles. Not sure how often you change shifters, but one way would be to have each shifter mounted to it's own dedicated pair of profiles with brackets. You could then loosen the brackets and slide the shifter assembly off towards the rear of the 80x40 shifter mount. Then slide the other assembly on. Of course this would mean you would need to remove the plastic profile cover on the end of the 80x40. Or leave it off. Personally I would not want both shifters at the same time. One of them would always be offset from the optimal shifting position I think.

    • @Excelbrains
      @Excelbrains 6 лет назад

      Barry: that would be the best solution indeed. Quaiffe offers a discount on both when purchased as a bundle and since the shaft of my TH8A broke today I guess I’ll be making a long term investment soon😆

      You can tighten the vesa mount pivot bolt to where it is pretty stiff. So I think it would not have any problems with FPS games.
      Only issue might be the amount of area that you need when moving your mouse in the heat of battle. I have seen some players
      with longer mouse movements that others.

      Sorry, I have not had a chance to test the TR160. Although, based on my experience with profile cockpits, I would think it will be a very sturdy unit. However the wheelbase mounts do raise some concern with how much metal has been removed from the cross mount pieces. But need to test to draw a final conclusion.

    What is your way of dealing with number of USB connections required to run a Rig like yours?
    Do you use internal USB PCIe expansion card to get more ports (if so which one?)
    Or did you had any luck with hubs? Or mix of both?
    Thanks

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад +2

      I have tried expansion cards, and hubs. I have had the best results with these high powered hubs: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ZGKWQI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      They are capable of 25 watts. Their power supply provides 5v at each port with a max of 5 amps total to all ports. I have found that some usb powered sim racing hardware can be very sensitive to the power they are provided over the usb port. There are other things that can effect the performance of our usb devices. And can be difficult to trouble shoot. So taking the problem of not enough power out of the equation helps a lot. Having up to 9 usb devices running on my simulator at times, combined they will need a lot of power to keep all of them happy. I currently run 2 of these hubs.

      Thank you for getting back to me Barry.
      Before reading your answer I have ordered 13 port 60W Anker hub (www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KHJ2C3C/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item) which is capable of similar amperage per port as the one from your link plus they both use VIA chipset so hopefully all will be fine.
      Also I have ordered 7 port PCIe extension card (www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EHU1EWG/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item)... I was using other 7 port USB expansion card before but it has stopped working recently, I assume due to Windows 10 update (we all love them don't we?) and due to lack of updated drivers. The one I got this time is supposed to be the least problematic of the bunch according to buyers comments (also this, I assume, Chinese brand has website with some drivers on it).
      I never experimented with HUBs before because I remember reading on iracing forum that HUBs are introducing latency and becasue of that are not a good idea for sim gear - have you noticed anything like it with your use?
      It would be perfect if this Anker hub would work just fine. Would solve all my problems and you have given me hope with you recommendation for similar HUB plus with your finding that HUBs, for you, were the least problematic in the end.

      You can mount it on the outside of the wheel support profile. You will still be able to swivel it to where you can reach the keyboard easily, but will not be able to swivel all the way under the wheel. I have to do this sometimes when I use a larger round style rim. I remove the keyboard from the tray and lay it in my lap on those occasions. I have it attached to the tray with a thin strip of velcro down the middle and 2 of these sticky pads people use for cell phones. www.ebay.com/itm/New-2pcs-Black-Anti-Slip-Car-GPS-Phone-Holder-Dashboard-Sticky-Pad-Non-Slip-Mat-/281799554789?hash=item419c8ff6e5 I place them on either side of the keyboard. Have yet to have the keyboard bounce away. And I run my tactile setting pretty high often.

    After reviewing JCL v2 and P1, how do they differ in practical terms? After seing the JCL v2 it almost looked like the P1 was more difficult to mount, though maybe it was the presentation in the video, and I'm getting real worried about the P1 black scratching easily.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  6 лет назад +1

      Either one would get the job done. The JCL is wider and lighter. They are both very stiff platforms. The black finishes on both will scratch if you do not take care in mounting your hardware. Just everyday use can cause a scratch somewhere. Silver would be the best color if you are worried.

      I am going to be getting some hand brakes to review soon. When using the hand brake, I will use a sequential shifter. So, not as big of a footprint. I will be fabricating an aluminum plate to mount both the shifter and hand brake to. Then mount that to the rig.
