I had a P0420 on my 03 Vibe (same as Corolla) and here in rural Canada we deleted the cat. I erase the cat code every month and it comes back in about 2 weeks.Great little car. CHEERS from HERE!!!
Some Toyota’s (Corolla / matrix’s ect ) or Pontiac Vibes get a PO171 error code. This is the manifold gasket and a design flaw. The newer gaskets like fel-pro or Toyota’s orange ones are better deigned and will fix the air coming in or creating a “lean” condition.
I had a code on my 2008 Corolla that pointed to a leaking intake manifold gasket. Dealer replaced the gasket with an updated one. I use an iPad app and a WIFI OBD 2 reader. The app gives codes and can erase them as well. Very handy at times.
Hi and thanks for watching. You can find an OBD2 scanner online for sale and they vary in price quite a bit. There is a lot out there to choose from depending on the features you want it to have. Thanks again for watching!
2007 Toyota Corolla S (75,000 miles) - The check engine light occasionally comes on, and the engine loses power. When this happens, I need to turn off the air conditioner and park the car. The engine shudders and shakes before I turn it off and wait. After waiting, I can restart the car, and it runs normally again. The issue has been occurring during high temperatures, in the high 90s to 100s (coincidence?). Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Is it my ignition coils? I have not pulled any codes yet.
May I add that if your cats are bad it also means that oil changes were not done on time creating sludge that is notorious for wearing down piston rings, allowing oil consumption which messes up the cats.
Thanks for the orientation... that code gadget is important to have. At least I won't be taken for a sucker because I will go with some knowledge of what is wrong with my car.
Hello! ☝️ A technical question. I have a Corolla year 2001 in Venezuela 🇻🇪 type 1.6; that is, 4AFE and neither current nor signal is reaching the oxygen sensor. This is causing the engine to consume a lot of fuel ⛽️ and also has a smell of candy with white 💨 and black smoke from the exhaust system. It uses a 12 volt wire + signal + (02) wires for a heater or coil but none have voltage from the ECU output. The 💡 ⚠️ CHECK-ENGINE light is on all the time. WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDATION? I await your comments. Thank you KENNY RENDILES
I bought a cheapo Chinese OBD code reader which seems to work. As long as the car runs OK, I prefer my wife's solution: Stick a piece of black electrical tape over the "CHECK ENGINE" light. Problem solved without breaking the bank!!
Hey what if I took mine in for a specific code and after the repair it's still reading the same issue? Took it for a p0741 got new ATF fluid and changed the TCC solenoid.
Could my chech engine light been triggered recently because I missed 1 of my oil changes servicing appointments and put 15000 miles on my car since last oil change and my engine filter was very dirty? Assuming this is the case and I got this service done plus an engine flush is there a way to clear this warning such as disconnecting the battery to reset car computer?
On my 2007 Toyota Corolla, the dealer is telling me based on the codes, the Vacuum switching valve is having a problem and it needs to be replaced. It will cost about 400 dollars.
Did you look up the work required to fix this? I encourage more people to work on their cars as much as they feel comfortable. It will help you in a pinch as well. Anyone willing to do work on their own vehicle should own a scan tool these days. Keep it in your glove compartment or trunk. Even if you don't need it. You can have it if someone else does. For instance, I was able to diagnose and fix a problem that had me on the side of the highway. The scan tool told me there was a misfire on cylinder 3. First thing that came to mind was ignition coil. Super easy to replace. I bought crappy coils and one failed. Luckily I held on to an original one as a backup. As, buying cheap coils on EBay is a horrible idea. I swapped the coils around at first to see if it gave a different code (eg. Misfire on cylinder 2). But it never gave a new code but still ran like crap. Lost track where I swapped the first two so I swapped each one out with the spare until it didnt run like crap. It could have been fouled spark plugs as well. Which could be from a number of things, including a leaking valve cover gasket or specifically spark plug tube seals. It basically made it easy and I was driving again. It made me realize how useful having a scan tool was. Ultimately I ended up changing all the coils until the ebay ones were in the garbage. Either way, when a dealership tries to slap someone's head, if you can listen closely and look into the problem yourself, many people would be suprised how much money the dealership charges when you see how simple some jobs are.
Yea but what if it comes on for only about ten seconds after starting it and then turns off soon after. No sound of a misfire and it seems like it runs just fine. Also just had an oil change just 1,500 miles ago....
Hi Todd, do you know if this particular scanner is compatible with the Corolla Altis 2007? I connected a cheap Bluetooth scanner to my car and it would not connect to ECM. After researching, I heard that the Altis is JDM engine and needs a JOBD scanner, but I really don't know.
I have a 2004 toyota corolla and it has a check engine light on and it needed a smog, I took it to a garage and they said the Cat. wasn't ready so I needed to drive the car so I drove the car on the freeway 100 mile and brought it back and the guy said the Cat. has to be replaced but I bought the car for 3000 and don't drive it much since I retired and covid, he wants a 2000 to fix and smog what do you think
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately Catalytic Converters are expensive fixes usually. That is a tough decision for you, good luck and hope it all works out for you.
every video i look at on this subject just has people guessing whats wrong under the hood. WHY WHY WHY doesn't anybody show how to check codes???? i got a 05 tacoma with a engine check light and there is ZERO info on how to check it without a scan tool. Im so sick of new cars, there all hunks of over complicated SHIT!!!!!
Bro, we are not from kindergarten. Already knew that. What i wanted to know is not exactly in this video. Could have used Chat GPT rather than watching your video. Wasted my time.

Sounds like the airconditioner is the problem...drawing too much power?
May I add that if your cats are bad it also means that oil changes were not done on time creating sludge that is notorious for wearing down piston rings, allowing oil consumption which messes up the cats.
Thank you for this… this is me. Not getting oil changes on time..smh.
That was an excellent video.
Thanks for the help My friend

The dealer will rape their customers and they lie a lot.

About 2006 times
Gracias
Check engine light, unfortunately, my catalytic converter had a hole in it and sounded like a loose rattling part on my Camry,
Wait what year is his toyota corolla
1986
" on my 2006 Toyota Corolla... "
8 or 10, I think 🤔
Hi
I am not sure if he was highlighting the reasons for the engine light or trying to sell the Scanner! Terrible.
Ac blowout hot now 😩
This does not help at all
When he throws you a bone he doesn't want to know how it tastes.
AGREE
If you fail to understand, it won't help you at all.
Yeah you have to be mildly mechanically inclined to understand
If my engine light comes on I park near road and tap battery terminal negative twice and start, it's goes off immediately thnx
