    He wasn't Korean. He came from an established family in Yokohama (his mother's side). His father, a police officer from Kagoshima, was about to enter politics before his sudden death. Led by his grandfather who once was a mover and shaker in the rice market, the family moved to Brazil, and that's where he developed his fighting spirit working in the fields for pennies.

      He seems to be confusing the back story with that of Rikidozan, who was in fact, Korean.

      It was definitely a rumor in the 90s around the time of the Collision in Korea ppv that Inoki was Korean.

      @@bladerope Yes, based on the fact that he had ties with N. Korea. But he also had contacts in Russia, Iraq, Pakistan, and other parts of the world, at a very high level.

    giant baba was probably a bigger star than anoki "financially more successful too"

    • @BoozeAholic
      @BoozeAholic Год назад +8

      Baba was popular but only as a wrestler & a booker. He's not as mainstream popular in Japan as Inoki is. Inoki was no. 10 in the most famous people from Japan & he was the only wrestler who was listed. Inoki was rich, he bought islands off of Che Guevara. Younger people only know him from Inokism, so they don't understand how large his fame was. It's similar to how youngsters don't know how great of a wrestler Andre the Giant was.
