- Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana Sunday as a catastrophic Category 4 hurricane, bringing deadly weather conditions as it crossed over Southern Louisiana.
While the storm has weakened to a tropical storm and passed most of the state, damage assessment is just beginning as residents and parish officials begin recovery efforts.

I'm from shreveport and I've met many cajuns over the years. Most all of them were people of very good people. Certainly a different kind of people. A people of faith and strength. A people of fellowship and kindness. Eager to give and to help anyone in need. God bless them all.
That was a very sweet comment! I am cajun and very proud of my heritage. To think of how my ancestors got here and worked together along with people from other settlements who were from different countries, and having different languages… And then I see it now even in 2021, it always gives me chills! I remember the theater shooting in Lafayette. In most places, you would see people running away from the sounds of gunfire, but in Lafayette, you saw people running into the theater when they heard them…I love how the hero comes out of Cajun people during times of need 🤗🤗
Best reporter, great voice, interaction, personable, knowledgeable and quick on her Q&A. Exceptional woman/reporter!
And listens not sensationalizes
This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen on a news channel. Succinct questions and highly informed answers - and now I know way more about this type of situation than I ever had before. Great job!!!
She's a smart reporter as you could tell she had been thinking ahead of time what questions she was going to get answered as there were no "well, aaa" or "could a" drawn out questions. She got right to the "meat" of the situation.
Yes- just quick info and you’re so right about the absence of ‘could’ questions. I hadn’t thought about that.🌸
This young woman is a great interviewer; she asked great questions, things people want/would need to know.

Gloria Joseph from st. Croix?
Your reporter was very good with her questions and her knowledge. Very professional
Hey, look what good people do: they immediately start to clean the mess and rebuild the area
Yes but at some point, people in that area are going to have to move. It will be mostly uninhabitable in the coming decades. That's not to diminish the heart and intelligence of those working to rebuild, but climate change is going to make these storms regular events, well more regular than they are now.

Watching from Mobile Alabama. So sorry this happened to you guys. Unfortunately to familiar with hurricanes!
For all the judgemental people everyone can't get up and travel to places because of financial hardship
It costs a lot to properly respond to emergencies when you’re broke, so you do the best you can with what you do have.

@@bluelagoon1875 do you always wake up this stupid or is this new for you?
Could someone answer a question I've had for YEARS - why don't they turn the electrical grid off in cities and areas whenever or wherever a hurricane comes ashore in the US. I'm here in Jamaica, we're always prepared, and yeah, the first thing our electrical company does here is turn the grid off islandwide - if power lines go down, and there's water on the roads it makes it extremely dangerous. Seems to me that downed live power lines create so many additional difficulties with everything else going on.....my best wishes that everyone comes through this terrible and dangerous time safely. Kudos to all the rescue teams out there...
In America, People would complain that they couldn't watch TV. That's why they can't turn off the power. Or, that's my guess.
No the problem is rich people. Rich people have underground power and don’t lose power. Only middle and lower class are affected by power problems in most situations (at least where I live on the gulf coast)
The power supply keeps the 99 water pumps on. These pumps are working constantly to remove water from the city-even when it’s just a normal rain shower. Check out the drainage in New Orleans wiki page, great info and visuals there.
Ida turned it off
Question makes no sense- people need power, and eventually underground electric will be the standard
So I guess those $14B levees are under warranty?😕

I was told to leave, but I didn't. I should have left. Man, the water has got high. We were told it would be 3 or 4 -- maybe 5 -- feet. No, it's gotten up to 12 to 15 feet around us. I live in a two story house, and everyone around me lives in one stories. Well, water came up too quick, and lot of people drowned in their house. Few got on top of house. But, others climbed into attic and couldn't get out. Everything here is destoryed. There is nothing left. Lot of dead bodies around here that died. This hurricane was worst ever. Very, very bad still, even.
lies
I can tell that this is a lie, "Lot of dead bodies that died" how can a dead body die???
I don't know where you are but they gave warnings about storm surge being up to 15 feet in the path of the hurricane. It is horrible that they died but warnings were ignored. I had friends who survived Katrina by luck because they had to climb into the attic of their homes and they were standing in water up there when it peaked. Another family was able to break a hole in their roof to climb out before it became completely submerged and spent the rest of the time clinging to some trees by their house. The most dangerous part of the hurricane is the storm surge which you are now aware of. Glad you made it because you did have elevation to go to.
Praying for you
Good thing the levies held.
Most of people are gonna be dead in Lafitte. He just doesn't want to say that. The waters came up soo fast and soooo quick. No where to run. I was lucky to live in 2 story ... that's why I lived.
Thank god, you’re ok. You better be grateful and help others if you can, friend.
@@sylvia106 Yeah, waters came up real fast, and I had to get out on top of my second story roof. That's how high the waters were. All other cars were underwater along with people's houses. You couldn't see nothing -- other than just a chimney or two, here & there. That's how much water it was.
Is it me or Katrina was worse

This is a rescue mission Americans should be. Most concerned about. climate change !!!
So many people are judging those who stayed for the storm. Some people do not have money for fuel and a hotel room. Many people don’t even have a car. The minute a storm is announced and projected to hit your area, every hotel room in the neighboring states are booked. I am a paramedic. If I work a storm, I will pack an overnight bag and I will be on the clock to do my job for the people who stayed behind. I don’t want anyone to feel like they were “selfish“ because they could not afford to evacuate. Emergency responders are doing their jobs. If somebody does not have a car, I’m not going to call them selfish because they need my help 🙄

At some point people are going to get tired of working their asses off to help those who are unwilling to listen to reason. You were told ahead of time of this hurricane - why risk trying to ride it out??? GET OUT unless you physically can't. You are being SELFISH by staying.
It’s the end of the month. Some may not have the means to leave nor anyone to help them. Maybe they are not the selfish ones.
Why do people stay iin their homes during a hurricane?
People who know that their house is in a flood zone usually evacuate. My childhood home was the highest end of the neighborhood, so we stayed. Our neighbors down the road were a lot lower, so they always left. I live in my fiancé‘s childhood home, and it has never flooded since it was built in the 1950s, so we stay unless they are calling for a storm surge that has not been seen since before 1950. That would really be the only reason we would leave. You have to understand that when you are evacuating, all of the hotels in the nearby states are completely out of rooms. If you can’t get a reservation, you stand the chance of having to live in your car until they can clear the roads for you to get back, even if the roads were not bad where your house is, there’s a good chance that they will be covered in debris somewhere between you and home... most people, especially people with children and pets, cannot just live in their car for an unknown amount of time. Our neighboring states are also really hot. Being parked in a Texas parking lot for two weeks scares me a lot more than staying home for a hurricane
My thoughts and prayers are with the people in this area and around the state affected by this natural disaster. Prayers going up
Why is that guy standing in the water & not on the dry road?
