    In mid 1900s New Orleans engineers accidentally sunk the city down to its level of 7 feet below sea level by diverting all the flooding away from the land making the dirt dry and compact over all these years down to the level it is at today. Why people ever wanted to live here in the first place knowing how it floods astounds me...

    • @photios4779
      @photios4779 3 года назад +3

      Actually the levees in New Orleans held up well against this storm because they were extensively reinforced after Katrina. Aside from wind damage and no electrical power at the moment, the residents of New Orleans weren't affected so badly. The problems are mainly arising in the smaller communities without such sturdy levees and other flood defenses. Unfortunately in light of climate change and rising sea levels, New Orleans might be permanently underwater by the end of this century, along with other cities on coastlines all over the world.

    • @kevinlee6003
      @kevinlee6003 3 года назад +2

      I mean, people are born, and they grow up there. It's all they know. Maybe we should tell all of Florida to evacuate because of the rising sea levels. Or tell the Midwest to evacuate because of Tornadoes. Or the west to evacuate because of Earthquakes.... see the trend? Almost everywhere in the US has some type of recurring mother nature event.

      Just about every one of them, and the celebrities and politicians who claim that, have million dollar beach houses. Look at Obama's in Martha's vineyard. Bought AFTER all the dire predictions.
      Our " climate czar", Kerry, has 6 mansions, a huge private jet, 2 helicopters, many luxury cars and a yacht! Look at Al Gore, huge mansion, notice how Greta Thunberg travels too.
      Decaprio went to a big protest on it in his jet, and the crowd left huge amounts of trash behind. There's also the fact that they ALL attended the climate stuff in Davos by going in their big private jets, separately. It's ALL about money, always is. None of them believe it.

    During the past century, hurricanes have flooded New Orleans six times: in 1915, 1940, 1947, 1965, 1969 and 2005. New Orleans was at particular risk. Though about half the city actually lies above sea level, its average elevation is about six feet below sea level-and it is completely surrounded by water.

    I still don't understand in this age why we have above ground electric lines. Especially in hurricane/tornado areas they should all be underground, it may be more expensive but by just 1 or 2 of these storms it will already be paying itself off in multitudes. Or just keep restringing the lines every year as these "once in a century" storms continue to become once in 5 year storms.

      Bonnie Russell and you believe this based on what? MSM? Or the statements of the Puppet Admin saying “everybody who wants to get out, can get out”? Tell me why we have to pull US Military even now? Oh yea, the Biden Puppet Masters said we will leave now. Tell me why Bagram AFB, easily defended and with 2 runways, and a 20 min flight from Kabul, was abandoned.. handing over $85 billion in US Military Equipment to the enemy (Taliban) including 600,000 small arms, NVGs, 20,000 vehicles, 200 aircraft including 33 UH60 Blackhawks containing bioinfomatics identifying Af pilots that flew them. Of course the enemy (Taliban) also freed 5000 prisoners from Bagram with many ISIS-K monsters, the folks that killed our 13 Marines.
      I guess if you’re only watching the MSM and doing no Source Material Research, it’s sort of not your fault if you don’t know these facts.
      FYI. All of these actions were in contradiction to the Trump plan.. including disbanding (by this admin) the task force created to monitor compliance.
      The Trump plan called for preconditions at every step. When the Taliban waivered, they received visits from FA18s. Why do you think there were No Casualties NONE as US forces were drawn down from 15,000 to 2,500 under Trump.
      These are facts. Do some research.
      Consider this. Australia has 39 Blackhawk helicopters. Because of Biden (if you believe he’s competent) or his Puppet Masters.. The enemy (Taliban) now has 33..
      ALL TRUE. ALL FACTS. Do some home work.

      Remember Katrina. Government is a large, slow moving behemoth that cannot pivot rapidly to respond to a large and evolving crisis. They are also going to be spread very thin so it could take days or weeks to get to you. It's inconvenient, but a hard truth that you must expect to be on your own for a good period of time before you can expect any government assistance at all, and when it arrives is will likely be mostly insufficient. If you make it through this, take that lesson deep into your heart and REMEMBER it well.

    Hearing about people in distress is heartbreaking. But, I mirror the comments of many here with wondering why the heck with so many days warning so many people didn't evacuate. You don't have to stay at the Ritz Carlton, you don't have to have friends or family out of the area. Just drive, take a bus, or even start walking long before the storm hits. We live on the water on the coast. Anything higher than a 1, and anything with mandatory evacuation order, we leave. Nothing I own is worth giving up my life to stay and "watch over".

      They didn't get out because the storm wasn't heading towards them at first, it was heading where I live. We prepared, we got ready, and were ready to evacuate on Saturday. When the storm turned east on Friday, it started gunning for them instead. They did not have enough time to make plans, or get money together to get out. Some folks did leave, but it took them 10 - 12 hours to get where we live, which is usually only an hour and 45 minute drive. Time and an unfortunate turn in the storm is why many didn't leave, including several of my family members, who are fortunately safe at this time. It's a terrible situation.
