As the northern eyewall of Category 4 Hurricane Ida moved over Lockport, LA, extremely high winds howled as it ripped through the town. Roofs and sheet metal became airborne missles, striking vehicles and surrounding structures. Building insulation rained from the sky and the sound of metal filled the afternoon air. Power poles snapped in half and sent the power lines flying through the air. Sustained winds were well over 100mph.

First, thank you for your bravery in weathering the storm so that we, who are out of harms way, could see the damage that these powerful storms can do to buildings and signs. Second, it was wise to locate yourself out of the storm surge area, most people die from the surge not the wind. I hope that people were wise enough to evacuate the high threat areas and that life loss will be low. Be safe.

Ditto on your comment. We were in the direct path of hurricane Ike. We drove just 30 miles to another town that had a hotel on very high ground. We stayed there because I was afraid our levy might break, or the water might go over it. It lacked only one foot going over. It’s better to be safe than sorry. No damage to our property, just a few tree branches down and tons of leaves that had been stripped off the limbs that were still on the trees. We were truly blessed. My heart goes out to those who had to weather this storm.

@@TexasRose50........I had the opportunity, although not pleasant, of working on the post Katrina Mississippi recovery plan with the corps of engineers out of Mobile. Saw a lot of things I wish never to see again between Waveland and Pascagoula after that storm. Lots more destruction by surge and waves along that coast. Glad that you evacuated, better safe than sorry. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you. Just call me a scaredy-cat. But I’m not stupid. Years ago, no matter how little money we had, we always saved enough for gas money and a hotel room for a couple of nights in case of an emergency. And bless your heart for doing what you did. But I bet it made you a stronger man. You take care and be safe and well too. Thanks so much for your reply.

REAL- WARNING! REPENT my brothers and sisters!!! this is God's message that he is coming soon... we still have the chance to turn from our transgressions, cleanse ourselves, and believe only through JESUS CHRIST our Lord!!!
Not a mother nature cause but it was said a long time ago, "Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand." Isaiah 28:2

It seems like they could avoid a lot of damage if building code just required a washer between the fastener and the metal roof...

But why are they still building houses, that are made to blow to pieces, in a hurricane area.

Metal roofs suck, easily torn off by wind, a dangerous and damaging projectile, you're better off with shingles in hurricane areas...........

Metal roofs actually hold up better in hurricanes. So stfu ?

Companies that cleanup after storms are the winners. Everyone else just a dummy for living in those areas that get storm after storm after storm. It's like they like loosing stuff and misery.
