There are building codes there. Why wouldn’t there be… as well as every manufactured home has to have a hurricane rating. These storms are extremely powerful and no matter what you have, damage is inevitable. Yes, you can build something that could withstand Cat 5, but it would cost a fortune, and like it’s been said, a lot of these people are elderly with little income, and sone are living check to check. We will get pass this, but it’s gonna be a long road ahead. I was a lineman for Katrina, and when I went down to plaqumines parish and the 9th ward, I didn’t think there was anyway that could ever be habitable again. We all thought it would be completely abandoned after that, but the spirit of Louisiana’s people didn’t let that stop us, and with gods help, we will prevail again!

We built our house in 30 acres of second growth forest(from a devastating forest fire 100 yrs before), 45 yrs ago..lots of folks built here too.. We have been through hurricanes here, except they weren’t called that years ago: Pacific typhoons , but terrible high winds, We had 7 tall trees fall on our house in in 93, sliced through our roof, one big tree, squirrels and all landed neatly in our guest room closet., no squirrels or people injured. We had needed $30K for a new roof, so we prayed for it. My best friend prayed with us, then she said..”Well I guess the money will just have to fall out of the sky”. and 2 months later, it did!! Our insurance replaced the roof and repaired the interior damage, and repainted all rooms to match new paint. The winds were over 100mph and damaged all of western WA..My friends had complained they needed firewood to heat for the winter.. The Lord provided firewood for everyone, delivered to their yards and streets..for the taking, so much timber came down. We don’t get told to evacuate when a storm is coming..we all just hunker down and pray. Most of the trees that could threaten our house have all come down over the years. So many storms. I just wanted to encourage you a little as you return to rebuild. It is hard to see as its happening, but some good does come of it all..But there is no place like home snd family.
