In my opinion, the amount of work that went into the first repetition (a plastic replica, a winter tent etc.) makes Nalle's first ascent seven years ago probably one of the most iconic and legendary feats in climbing history. What a nice tribute to all these efforts.
It's frustrating to watch and hear all of the discussion around this repeat but without much acknowledgement of what it says about how futuristic and astounding the FA was
The final shot of Shawn looking up as Will tops out is just gorgeous. Such an amazing accomplishment and the video really brings the beauty of the boulder to life. Love it!
Absolutely beautiful! And also, I think Alphane might have played a big part in Will's journey towards this. So Shawn was really helping Will's journey in a way.
You know it's nothing short of a monument in climbing history when the second ascent receives more hype than the FA. Congrats, Will. And many thanks to Nalle, the visionary.
This video made me think about Nalle's ascent. Will talks about how useful it was to work on this with other climbers, both technically but also mentally. I imagine Nalle's journey was a lot more lonely. Incredible really.
@@mrpigcho9466 100%. I can just imagine Nalle spending night after night alone on the boulder. It looked so different back then too, I think there were still trees around it.
@@BargainBinkey it’s not just this video though, you’ve had Shawn Raboutou, Will Bosi, Toru Nakajima, Stefano Ghisolfi, Aidan Roberts all give this boulder attention over the past few months. There was hype because it was going to be repeated, just no one knew who and when.
Shawn's smile as you climbed higher and higher on the boulder got bigger and bigger and it was just the tip of the iceberg in this awesome production - hats off! King WILL 👑
its crazy how collected and aware shawn was during the finish. i would have lost my absolute shit, how poetic for Shawn to stay subdued in that moment. all around just incredible.
It says a lot about the climbing/bouldering community spirit that Shawn is there and happy for Will. In many sports rivals at this level barely talk to one another let alone collaborate. Amazing achievement.
Now imagine what Will and the other top young boulderers are going to be able to accomplish when they find the next level of hard and project it with the same level of commitment and effort that Nalle put into Burden. Huge props to Nalle for putting this monster up... he didn't have the luxury of working it with buddies and knowing for sure if it was even possible.
Nor did he have a replica with a pulley system in a comfortable environment. I wish original beta (without the foot and top move with the other hand) remained the only one. It would have been a V f..g twenty.
I have no doubt that this will be one of the videos the next generation of climbers point to as their inspiration to start climbing. Unbelievably strong Will, congrats!!
It’s not lost on me that the two strongest boulderers today have a disposition that is polar opposite from elite climbers throughout history. So lighthearted and chill. Will and Shawn are perfect ambassadors for climbing.
First time I've been so invested in someone else sending a climb. From watching the lattice videos, to the ig lives, to checking social media every day to see if he had sent the boulder, to finally seeing the video of the send go. Will became my favourite climber throughout this process.
I think like most the fact Shawn Raboutou was there and the total respect he had is the highlight, the 2 greatest just pushing the limits and each other bravo 🙌 and made it look like my local v5 😮
It is amazing to see Will crush like he has. Also, this just increases the amount of respect I have for Nalle. Such a futuristic boulder, a gift to the climbing community.
That last shot is just majestic. You can see Shawn smiling as Will is linking move after move. Knowing that his friend is about to achieve his goal. Such a beautiful natural moment to capture.
One of the strongest climbers in the world, and even more importantly, a super down-to-earth and humble guy. Inspiring send, great cinematography. Makes me stoked to get out and climb some rocks!
After watching so many epic climbing moments on RUclips, the seconds before the ascent were palpalble. Amazing how much it means to see a human pull on so little rock. Huge congrats to Nalle, Will, Shawn, Stefano, and Team. All part of history!
8:15 I love that you showed how frustrated Will was at not beign able to do one move, that shows the human / failure aspect of climbing such magnificnet boulder, and I think other climbers would get a lot of inspiration from these failures!
Diego shot an incredible film here, and I think it's a really touching comment on the nature of give and take, and comradery, in the climbing community that someone more commonly associated with Stefano's videos made such an emotional and beuatiful tribute to Will's efforts here. And I love that Shawn was there right until the end. The stoke on his face as Will topped out was palpable. Love it. Fuck yes Will, all that CS:GO finally paid off, huh? ;)
That entire thing was so beautiful. The journey, the send, the lifestyle, and the friendships were all captured so perfectly in this film. The solo shot of will smiling in pure joy at the end gave me goosebumps. I’m sure this will be prime psych material for generations to come
Dude, I would've been screaming ALLEZ!!!!!! the moment he latched the last move to give him that extra juice to finish. They were so quiet lol. Sick send!! Shawn and Stefano are sure to be next.
It's so nice to watch a climbing video that shows the emotion of the struggle. Too often its: climber falls off a couple of times, then climber sends project. Watching Will get frustrated with the project makes my own frustration with projects 10+ grades below feel ok. It also makes watching the elation of the send all the more enjoyable and Will so much more relatable. He seems like such a genuinely nice guy.
Nalle's ascent is a documented magic, and it will always stay the same through times and history, too bad guy got little to no recognition. And yes, if you'll compare this climb to high diving, "both guys jumped and dived, but with huge difference in quality, technics and esthetics", which only proves that Nalle's level (at least by the time he climbed bod) still hasn't been reached.
Love the calm, mellow vibe with Shawn being supportive but not OTT. Amazing repeat and huge respect ro Nalle for making it a problem in the first place.
This doesn't get more pure than that. Just enough holds to climb it. Thank you Will for making us part of your journey, this is so incredibly insightful to see the process, the mental ups and downs and of course the perfect climbing that got you to the top of this final boss.
Been waiting for this one for a long time. Not this video specifically, but the second ascent of this legendary line. Shout outs to Nalle and Will and all the giants that came before us and continue to inspire the climbing community to push the boundaries of possibility.
Seeing how pumped Will was just made me smile so hard. You can see how hard this all was on his face and the relief is so tangible. And then seeing Shawn stoked for him at the end was even more wholesome. Just awesome stuff to see. What a beautiful line and an awesome climb
I think this is the first time you’ve showed us the frustrations you’ve experienced during this process. It’s so hard to persist after going through what seems like negative progress, falling off moves you can usually do every time etc… Very insightful, thanks for sharing your experience on this journey!
Incredible feat, incredible video. That final view of the send with Shawn watching is so powerful. The celebration is so subdued but sincere as you watch it dawn on them both what Will had done. So good.
Reminds me of adidas skateboard edits. Weird, slow, relaxing, and artsy. Not what I would watch before climbing but definitely a great vid. Will made it look casual.
I never thought the video of an ascent of the hardest boulder in the world would be the climbing video I relate the most to. Will's frustration on messing up on his send goes really remind me of my own projecting, even if I am projecting 10 grades lower
I'm not a climber, but I love Burden of Dreams V17. I find beauty in the fact that this not-so-tall rock is one of the hardest to climb in the world. I was regularly looking for new information on Burden Of Dreams. And some new videos have been uploaded over the past year and I really enjoyed them. Thank you and congratulations!
The thing is you can find much harder climbs that are 30 meter tall but no one can climb this yet. The little height allows climbers to repeat the moves so many times that they can finally do it. It's just not possible to repeat 30 meters of moves that often so the single moves can't be as hard yet on longer routes. I'm saying yet because climbing is nowhere near the limit yet.
Cleanest ascent to date! Nalle had a footslip at the end, but luckily it didn't matter. I'm guessing the boulder is a little more workable now that the forest is gone. Dry and breezy more often.
Will is so authentic. This is one of the most beautiful things I've watched in a long time. The commitment, the focus, the emotion, the mental strength. I wish I have something that I'm as passionate about in my life.
At first I started to see Will as a bit out of touch with the reality of route grades, but once I saw his progress as a route and boulder climber, I began to realize that his aptitude and zero ego is what makes him great, congratulations Will.
The fact that Nalle sent this without even knowing it was possible 7 years ago is probably the most impressive feat ever achieved in bouldering
