    Thank u so much for all the Amazon videos! It did release and resolute a lot of my confusion and stress about some unknown concerns I have for my new job, so at least I feel better for starting right after new year in a new environment. Hopefully, not much difference between Dallas and North California. Thanks again, take care

    a good tip for people working the night shift: Do not go to sleep after coming from work. Reverse it, if someone worked from 6 am to 7.30 pm, will they got to sleep at 7.45, no. they will go to sleep at 9 or 10 pm. So try to stay awake for a few hours so that you are not always sleepy towards the end of your shift.

    So sleep 5hrs per day on work days. I did that the past couple years but was working 6 days one week and 6.5 the next. I walked out. I recently took a reduced full time job at Amazon so ill only have to work 40 hours per week---which sounds ridiculous but all these warehouse jobs are nuts with mandatory overtime and many are far worse than Amazon for the lower level peons. I dont know if I will advance or just stay put that remains to be seen for now I am just going to enjoy the 3 days off. Also, for those of you that haven't experienced overnight hours and only getting 5 hours per sleep let me explain to you what that can be like some days in reality: You wake up at 1 pm. The time from 1pm to 230pm goes by almost as fast as it did in this video AND it might actually be 230pm before you make your first cup of coffee and you literally have ZERO ideo what you've done in the 1.5 hours that you've been up. Not a joke im serious. Im sure for someone younger and just starting you may deal better but when you start getting the heavy hitter hours and do it for a sustained time funny things happen at times. Of course, they aren't funny at all. You're so whacked out you could make an hour long utube video of yourself drooling all over yourself staring off into space without any effort. Take your vitamins thats all I can say. Im praying I can use my extra time off to create some sort of side hustle that will either eventually replace the job OR allow me to avoid getting back into the schedule of death.

    Just started and am on back half nights…. It’s rough. I thought I would have more time during work days but as you said at the d I basically get home and crawl into bed and wake up and go back to work. Will say they have me a learning plan for the first 6 weeks where I am suppose to shadow another AM for 5 weeks and then they set me free. Well that is definitely not the case. Day 2 of wearing my ops vest and was on my own.

Do not underestimate what your associates can teach you in addition to the other managers. You will do great, listen to your body and try to find things that you enjoy about the shift and role

    I just found your channel! I am from Houston, turned 25 in march and graduated from college last may and I am considering a job at amazon. I didn't expect this pandemic, but right now I need some cash so I will definitely try to do more research. I got a degree in business (MIS) and I just found out I can apply for a position as an area manager which is pretty impressive. It's been pretty hard trying to find a job for everyone that has finished college during this pandemic but I am trying to be open minded! I also need to get out of the house and make new friends. I will keep doing a little bit more research! PS: as a former barista, your grounds for your espresso machine are too coarse, I usually shake my grinder a bit to get finer grind xD.

When you decide to take your breaks you are able to sit, however in my department (and most departments, if not all) the situation is stand-up desks only. You will find a way to be comfortable!

    • @Grant0669
      @Grant0669  4 года назад +5

      Yes the sleep is definitely at a minimum during the working night. I grind through my work nights (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) and then get to catch up on sleep during my four days off. During peak we work 5 nights per week so its a bit more tiring. I find that what works best for me is having those three/four hours in the morning to myself to enjoy that down time. When I get home from work Sunday morning, I usually nap for a couple hours then flip back to a more normal schedule until I go back in Thursday. I do a lot of running, so for me that keeps me in check and gives me something to look forward to on my off-days.

    Hey Grant, I've been watching a few of your videos. I appreciate the information, and have a question for you. I've just sent in my acceptance letter for the entry level area manager role. As it has been over the holiday, I have yet to hear anything back. Had my interview last Wednesday, recieved a notice I would be getting an offer on Thur and got the offer letter on Friday. They want me in another state for my first day on the 26th, just 3 weeks from today. What would your advice be on how long of a lease to sign in a new location. One of my interviewers said she had worked in 3 states over the last 4 years. I know it usually costs more to go short term, but have no idea of how fast people tend to get promoted. Just curious what your opinion may be, I won't hold you to it. Thanks

    • @Grant0669
      @Grant0669  3 года назад +1

      Hi Michael, that is a great question. My advice on signing a lease in a new location is to go with a 12 month standard lease unless you know that you are going to want to stay longer term in the location you are going. Pay close attention to the terms of lease cancellation at the apartments you research just in case you do end up having to abide by these terms. Best of luck to you!

    • @Grant0669
      @Grant0669  4 года назад +4

      You will receive training as part of your onboarding experiencing however this training will not fully prepare you to be a manager. It seems like the majority of the “training” comes from working closely with and learning from other area managers in your area. About two months in to the position you do attend what is currently an online training day which is more technical and geared toward what you do on a daily basis, and that training was very helpful. The dress code is you cannot wear pants that are less than mid-thigh length, and your hair must be tied back. It is very casual and most everyone dresses for comfort and function

      Hi Rustsha - I would not worry about this if I were you. As a manager you are not bound to a particular break structure. Obviously you do not want to leave the floor if you shift is not currently running smoothly and if your comanager is not around, but the majority of the time you should have no issue stepping away when you need to in order to use the restroom or to sit down and have some food. On my shift, I am physically in the building from 530PM-7AM. Usually I make it a point to each my "lunch" around 1AM and take a few small breaks every couple hours. (Definitely not the most fun or sustainable lifestyle but for short term it is fine)

The “sacrifice” I make here though is that I constantly flip my schedule around on my off days so that I am away during the day when people want to do things. It’s definitely possible! And when it comes to dating, if someone likes you they won’t mind that you work overnight a few times a week. I think it’s definitely possible to balance everything. I completely understand your concern with wanting to be placed in your #1 city. Your recruiter is your point of contact if you ever have any questions, so do not hesitate to reach out to her/him to ask where they are in the assignment process. Definitely be sure that any other locations you have ranked you’d be happy to relocate to as well. You have the rest of your career to try and go where you want, so I encourage you to step back and have an open mind!

    I just found out I passed the interviews and they are working on my offer! I will say the only part I’m reserved about is working in a more industrial field. I think the position and and relationships at work sound great, just not the environment I pictured after graduation. Do you enjoy being in that environment vs a traditional business one?

      @@victoriapetriskey5339 Hi victoria, congratulations! This is a very big accomplishment. I am 22 and I have been an AM for over a month now. I have a very outgoing personality so having rapport with people is very important to me. In doing so it allows better communication and that form of respect is established. As far as the environment it is a change of scenery but the diversity and various personalities make it less serious and industrial.

      Very great questions Victoria. I have worked in both industrial settings and business settings and there are pros and cons to both. I think you will get over the initial shock of the industrial setting pretty quickly. It is not glamorous, quiet, and relaxed like the business/office setting. When I say relaxed by the way, I only mean that in the sense of what’s going on around you. Industrial settings are a lot more crazy! That’s part of the fun. I love the walking around and constant interaction you have with the associates, other managers, and various other employees. If you go into the environment and decide it is not for you, you can always pivot to something that allows you to be in a setting you are more comfortable in. Keep an open mind and you’ll do great

Just dont show your face in the videos and film at work candidly. Or ask your manager ffs. Or just don't make videos if all you can do is waste peoples time talking about coffee. Smh.
