This is exactly what I needed lmao. I keep trying to use too much air, because everything I was taught with singing was air, air, air. I never realized that when people said "The best way to learn to scream is to shut the fuck up" was true lmao
After being a False cord vocalist for the past 12 years and always failing to achieve a fry scream, I have to THANK YOU for finally making me figure it out!!!! You won a new subscriber here 😊
Sometimes it’s just a matter of spending more time in that part of your voice to get the starting pitch to be more comfortable. Check out this video and see if it helps at all! ruclips.net/video/VwrhD8Ia_VM/видео.html
@@hedonist9249 thanks man I've been screaming for about 10 years haha. Another thing you can do is sing a note in your head voice or falsetto and then clench your abs. Your false fold will abduct because of the pressure and you will be in the fry scream (a lot similar to the chester Bennington one)
Even tho I have no aspirations or talent to do this professionally my love for music drives me to atleast try this. This is also very therapeutic thank you for all the lesson much appreciated
Try to imagine the sound as coming from your belly more than you imagine it coming from your throat. This allows for a much deeper and louder sound than you could create from your throat and vocal chords alone. Once you get it right you’ll feel the difference! Hope this helps!
I really really struggle with getting my fry to activate. I do this exercise but I don't really know what "less air" means. I know the diaphragm should be engaged and all that, but less air always just ends up less volume for me and I don't know how to get the fry to activate anywhere above a whisper. Tips?
Don’t worry about volume at the beginning! It’ll come with time. This is exactly what I’m struggling with. I’m not intentionally trying to change my volume but the less air I use I’m going to reach the point where I’m just not breathing at all 😭
I'm a little bit confused about fry screams, are they naturally supposed to be high? I can never go that high without hurting my throat, and all the tutorials I see go very high. Is that just dependent on the person or the type of scream?
This is actually a really common question! Fry screams will always sound higher than a false cord scream at the same pitch (without any further manipulation of the mouth) because the distortion mostly lives in those higher frequencies but you can do highs, mids and lows with fry scream. It will definitely be different from person to person!
That’s super common, the trick is to allow the volume to come naturally rather than trying to make it louder on purpose. Here are a couple videos that may help! ruclips.net/user/shorts_LfhcJ3MWK4?feature=share ruclips.net/video/0cxP1gt8Rx0/видео.html
The thing I'm stumped on is the change in tone when you start projecting it. When I start projecting it, my tone has always stayed the same as when youre doing it lightly in the beginning of the video which sounds a lot weaker even though it's a lot louder in my case. Is this something you cover in evi now?
Fry is your voice, it's your lowest register. The goal is to get the same tissues and frequencies making sounds as fry, and then layer them with a falsetto note.
I feel like I've got this down, and I sound good doing it, but after a while half of my vocal range is gone and I can't do it anymore for that day, what might I be doing wrong?
Hi there! You may be overworking for the sound which is causing that loss of range so you may want to revisit how you’re getting to the scream. Everyone elses sounds so screamy and metal but mine comes out super deep like a bullfrog lmao
mine sounds like the angry birds💀
I don’t fry, I false cord, if you fry scream you have it harder but if you false cord you got it better
This is exactly what I needed lmao. I keep trying to use too much air, because everything I was taught with singing was air, air, air. I never realized that when people said "The best way to learn to scream is to shut the fuck up" was true lmao
I cant even hit those notes if i tried to let alone scream
Doesn’t have to be the same notes! Just pick somewhere you’re comfortable
I never thought to find your fry so easily. Nice work man! You put a lot of thought into these tips

Hi, could you please do a video teaching how to growl like Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth? His vocals are brutal. Thanks :)
Agreed
And Singing voice so beautiful
@@stellaotto5654 That's true
10 years later and I still can't come even close....
this is how i actually learned to fry but I still have problems with highs, they sound like forced mids

I for the life of me can't figure this out :( whenever I keep reducing air I just loose my voice.
Same, for me this makes my throat hurt. But I might be doing it wrong somehow.

Congrats on 70k 🤘🖤
congrats on 70k!
Fantastic tip. Also my daughter was quite amused when I tried this
Awesome exercise
Thnank you so much. Your videos is very useful.
I'am extreme vocal coach too, but your mini lessons always give me something new.
Dude, that's awesome! never seen this way to get there! nice one! short and effective.
You’re amazing.
i cant get my voice to crackle for the fry voice, i must be a vocalist for soad
should it still hurt?
Helpful
Thank you so much!!!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Really like this approach, finding the vocal break. Issue I'm having is proper projection, but I'm hoping that comes in time.

Vocal fry is not the same as fry distortion. It's similar but not crackly.
Correct but it can be used as a tool to get you to the fry scream
It just gets super quiet for me
mine sound like the 3 run. i don’t understand how to isolate the fry from my voice. is the fry scream both or just the fry?
