Wow, I’ve been doing research on this for hours and your video cleared up all my doubts. So it’s safe to say that the 5700xt is equivalent to the M1 Max ✅
Yep! and the M2 Max is essentially only 4 points above a 3060 Ti. The RTX 3070 is better than the M2 Max. ruclips.net/video/UI6Do026pL0/видео.html skip to 4:00 into video. Power per wattage, M2 Max wins obviously. But yeah, if we look at compairson to 5700XT vs M1 Max, I would choose that 5700XT any day. I know this because I have both iMac 2020 i7 5700xt and MBP M1 Pro, and it's not that much far off from each other. I end up always going to my iMac 2020 anyways. I love it! If I would choose in regards to price, iMac 2020 for the value. But I would still recommend Mac Studio but the issue is you don't get that 5k display unless you buy studio display separately.
Thanks for the truth. I been researching trying to find real world results on making the jump. I still edit on a 2017 i7 5k iMac fully spec’d out shooting on Canon R6ii. I just transcode to proxies and it still works. Sure it’s not the fastest but it gets the job done for what I use it for. I’ll upgrade once Apple doesnt support my iMac then I’ll make the jump.
This video put a smile on my face and answered the questions I was pondering. Thank you and well done. My budget is tight and I realized that I could save some money buying a refurbished 2020 Imac 27inch in 2023 and it will serve me well, now and into the future, even after I can afford a new MacBook Pro, next year. I really need a good 27inch or better monitor, and a good computer that will run both Mac OS and Windows, and I can upgrade the ram without breaking my meager budget. I lusted after a Mac Studio and Studio Display, but I kept getting annoyed at the prices and realized it was also overkill for my current needs, and this older computer would be the perfect choice. The past is prologue, once again.
Imagine in 50 years yt is only a comparison Plattform where comparisons of comparisons are uploaded as comparisons video content against comparisons content videos 😵💫 what are your thoughts on the new M2 chips ?
The 5K iMac 27 2020 ( Powered by Apple T2 Chip) is the best Desktop (not just all in one) computer ever, sadly apple killed it, i have one and it runs perfect and can run Windows 11 better than most PC on the market also the 5K display is stunning and vey accurate and no PC monitor is similar to it or even close. This Computer is just plug and play with 5K display and two Thunderbolt 3 Ports.
Hi, I'm going to buy my MacBook tomorrow. I was in doubt between the 14in M1 max 32gpu 32GB or 16in 32gpu 32GB. Which one do you recommend? Thank you! This is the best channel ever ,)
I would go with the 16inch because the LCD screen is just so good and you're going to avoid thermal throttling. As long as you don't mind sacrificing portability.
Very well made, and to the point. Would have been nice to include the comparison of Premiere Pro render times between iMac and M1max. Maybe a follow up? Many thanks 🙏🏻
@@thesavagefilmmaker thanks 😎 looking forward to more of your videos. I'm curious to see some more of the real world Red footage test comparisons between the 2020 imac and M1max (with grade, without grade, mixed with other footage etc), since that area has been somehow ignored by the majority of RUclipsrs and they are only interested in Sony and Canon comparisons, as far as I've seen.
I'm considering upgrading from the 2020 iMac with the 5700 8gb graphics card to either the 5700xt iMac or the base Mac Studio. Do you think the 5700xt iMac would be a big enough upgrade performance-wise to be worth it? I often edit music videos with heavy effects & layers.
I would go with the Mac Studio. While the Imac will defintely give you better Render times for tough video, I think overall the general speed of the Studio in most tasks will be better and the fact it will be supported for much longer means it's the best way to go as a long term investment.
Thanks for the comparison! Would the M1 Max have done better with the renders having 64GB of RAM? I also have an intel "iMac" it's a hackintosh that's about 35% faster than a real iMac and has a 6800 XT. I'm in the market for an M1 Max, which looks like a great travel machine. Based on all my research from Max Tech, Luke Miani, and other RUclipsrs such as yourself, the 24-core GPU model seems like the best-balanced option. There appears to be an architectural issue with the M1 Max not having adequate cache/buffer to feed the GPU. Which is why the 32 core doesn't scale as well. A 1TB SSD seems like the best option, with the most significant cost per-dollar speed bump and double the life of the 512GB, which is good considering how much swap-writing the M1 chips do. I'm still on the fence about 32GB or 64GB of RAM. It doesn't need to be the best possible option as a secondary machine, but I use After Effects mostly, which is a memory hog... Thanks again for the thorough comparison!
I think you'll need that 64gb memory, I run up against my 32gb from time to time on my big edit projects and I don't use After Effects. Still find that Adobe products run pretty averagely on my M1 Max.
You will be getting the Ultra now. Love you whit and humour. The Desktop mac will be updated on next release and will be a master of everything my friend Red told me. ;) Wish I lived in NZ, Trapped in Rain hell England.
Hmmm I'm tempted for the Ultra, but it's Ultra expensive! Can't keep up with these releases. NZ is a great country, but it does also rain here, just not quite as much.
It will be interesting to see what happens with side-by-side comparisons like this when the M1Ultra Mac Studio hits the market and NLE editors get their hands on it.
Hmmm well it looks like the m1 max is a pretty specialized product. I've yet to test it out (m1Max) on my footage because life these days is just too busy for me and I just do youtube as a hobby. But it might go well for me since I just use a fuji X-T3 and no raw footage. Thanks for the vid and yes screw the algorithm!

I keep bringing this to the RUclips board, and yet they keep rejecting my request!

@@thesavagefilmmaker ya I wouldn’t doubt it. It definitely would save time going Apple silicon 😆

dude you're amazing! Thank you again for another very helpful review!
Happy to help!
Many thanks, I think you saved me buying a monitor + a laptop. I'll go for a 2020 iMac, which by the way are found for really cheap now on eBay.
Glad I could help mate my loss is your gain! 😂
Imagine in 50 years yt is only a comparison Plattform where comparisons of comparisons are uploaded as comparisons video content against comparisons content videos 😵💫 what are your thoughts on the new M2 chips ?
M2 chips are great good improvements across the board but not worth the upgrade from the M1 chips in most cases.

Would be interesting to see you compare the Mac studio with iMac 🖥. Proper desktop to a desktop comparison
I think the Studio is a bridge to far for me, not a big enough improvement over my M1 Max to be worth the steep price.

As long as you're with me Bryan!
I went: 16” / 24C / 32GB / 2TB
Nice! 24 core is a great way to save a bit of money without losing too much performance!
M4 {UC4} Ultra Silicon Core4 Desktop will be the desktop best buy. Afterburner reconfig will be changed.

An amazing camera, but well out of my price range.
