  • It's Spring Cleaning time and it seems we all could do with a little (or a lot) of cleaning motivation right about now, so Melissa Maker is here to help with a clean #withme video to "get you in the mood" to #clean! Instead of watching some super long "ultimate clean with me" video that will take up an hour of your time, this video is less than 10 minutes and designed to get you cleaning YOUR home faster - how's that for #cleaningmotivation?

My depression prevents me from having any motivation to clean. Then the mess piles up and depresses me more. It's a horrible cycle. Your videos inspire me to actually WANT to clean. When I need to get up and get moving, I throw a bunch of your Clean With Me videos in a queue on my TV and just get to it. This will sound silly, but listening to you talk about cleaning in the background while I'm cleaning my apartment almost makes it feel like I'm cleaning with a friend.
Thank you for being part of my mental health routine. You have no idea how helpful you are.

Yes! I actually share the experience, it really can be very hard. I sometimes feel like I already know some of your videos by heart. I loved listening to your audiobook as well and I wish you did a podcast about cleaning or maybe just more Q&A live streams on youtube? I need more of that precious content to listen to while cleaning haha

I find that if my space is clean I feel lighter. Maybe just start small. Take one bag set a 20 min timer and fill it with what you know is trash. That small step could lead to more. Make your home feel good even if you feel bad. Sending you encouragement

I am in LOVE with my Makers Towels!! I was one of those who thought “come on, these towels from the dollar store are fine” boy was I WRONG! These towels really are the right tool for the job, the glass towel was like magic! The multi purpose towels are so absorbent and make wiping effortless (s pattern always) and don’t even get me started on the waffle weave towel! MAJOR GAME CHANGER!!! That sucker dries in the first swipe!! I am so excited to clean! I have my homemade cleaners/my caddy/ all the right tools and the 3 wave system down! ⭐️🤘🏻😊 Thank you!!!!

I'm always intrigued when I watch your videos and other American videos, when you hand wash dishes, you put the dish soap on your cloth etc and then run the tap to wash/rinse. We've always rinsed our dishes, then fill the sink with hot water and detergent, then hand wash our dishes in that water. If we have a double sink, the 2nd sink is filled with clean water to dip/rinse our dishes before putting into the drying rack.

My kids cleaning is questionable, they would clean just a big mess and leave small pieces anyway, so I still have to clean up every time but sometimes my laziness taking over and I letting it go out of control. Watching your videos motivate me a lot. Especially if you show how you clean up from messy point. Thank you so much.

Hi - thanks for revisiting this. It really does offer me motivation. As I haven't been able to work as our pub is now shut down, I decided to do a marathon clean to start with two weeks ago. It's my intention to buy some spray bottles and tea tree oil to make up your recipe. I can now concentrate on bigger jobs that haven't been tackled for a while like windows and tops of cupboards, I've even carried some decluttering. I expect like a lot of people all over the world, because we're not working it forces your hand, so to speak, to have a good clean up/clear out. The down side is here in the UK all the tidy tips (places we take our rubbish that the bin men will not take) have closed, as have all the clothes banks and charity shops. I think there's going to be a big rush to those places when the lock down lifts. Anyways, I digress. To everyone who watches your videos, Happy Feel Good - as when you're space is tidy and clean it does make you feel good xx

Just wondering-why doesn't anyone use the old method of filling the sink with hot water, soap and dishes and come back after a soak? Makes the dishes easier to clean and seems to use much less water than the washing of one thing at a time. Before dishwashers that's what we did to make it easier.

I do that too. Don't have a dishwasher and don't need one as we are just two people. I wash or rinse as I'm cooking to minimize the "big" wash and then after eating, I feel the sink with really hot water, a tiny bit of detergent, put on the gloves and 10 minutes max later, it's done. If the water is hot enough, I don't even have to dry all the dishes because by the time I am done with them all, they are already dry. I start with the small stuff and things that are not very dirty - like glasses. By the time I get to bigger bowls or pots, they have been soaking long enough.
Actually the only thing I do regularly when it comes to cleaning my kitchen. :-)

I can not do without my WASHING machine, I can hang clothes out if I have too dry them and my second one is the DISHWASHER, we eat off of paper plate, and plastic forks etc or eat out till I get one. My dishwasher broke two nights before the 4th ofJuly, one year went shopping the next day to get one and had it brought out on the 4th and put in. Paid
thru the noise for that, but I can not live without my dishwasher. I feel for you on that. I could not find your pre-wash to make up. Stay safe and clean on

I just have to say, first, thank you for this great video! I like your 3 Wave system and find myself doing something similar but I never thought to give it a name! And second, the surprise appearance of your kitty made my whole day. I know this is random, but I had a siamese cat growing up who looked JUST LIKE yours and she passed away a year ago so it was special for me to see one that looked so similar to her

How long did the actual cleaning take you? Great video, thanks! :)
I actually like habits a lot because you forget about them and don't have to plan for them, e.g. "No empty hands": if you have to go from bedroom to kitchen and you have a glass/mug in the bedroom, take it with you. If there is more stuff that you can restore to other rooms you are passing, do that. You are on your way anyway.
Or: when you wash your hands after going to the toilet, check the sink and the faucets for chalky spots and quickly wipe it with a cloth already stored close by.
Also on decluttering: Every time I put something back in order or wash a dish etc. I ponder on some things, i.e. if cleaning them up every time is really worth it or if I really need them. The questions, "Do I really want to clean this up/put it back every time? Is it worth my space/time?" made a huge difference for me.
Once you have trained such habits you just do it and you don't have to deep-clean that often.

I just want to say I find it more easy to just run a dish pan of hot soapy water with a little chlorox and wash as I cook and immediately after everyone is through eating that helps a lot when you have children .🌺

I'm about to turn 69 soon and have to do my cleaning in short spurts as I'm able. When I was much younger, I could clean my whole house in one day, including shampooing carpets. Now that I'm retired and much older, I have limitations from aches and pains most days and not as much energy as I used to have. So, I do my cleaning in spurts throughout the day/week and get most of the regular cleaning done. I have trouble leaning over to clean my jetted tub as it is much deeper and harder to clean than a regular tub, so I have a cleaning lady come once a month to do the heavy cleaning for me.

I prefer more small and frequent cleanings. That’s less that I have to clean up and less time I have to spend cleaning. My mom always taught me to put things (in any part of the house) away when I’m done with them and clean as you cook so that there’s not a lot dishes or a big mess when you’re done cooking. What she said always stuck with me. Plus I find that by doing things that way, the mess in the kitchen isn’t so daunting because you’re not letting things get out of hand.

For me when it comes to the kitchen I like to put stuff away as I finish using it as much as possible but sometimes I sit stuff down there when I come home By the time I have my food cooked and mon my plate I hope to have everything put away (spices, condiments and stuff like that). As I am cooking I put the utensils or any dishes in the dishwasher so at least they are out of sight and therefore out of mind. Once my plate is ready for me to sit down and eat, all I want to do after that put the plate and silverware in the dishwasher, grab the Fantastic and spray the counters down. I clean any pan if hand washing one is necessary or a quick rinse and into the dishwasher it goes. I grab my paper towels and wipe down the counters as by then the grime has loosened up and it's easy and only takes a couple of minutes. I also wipe down the handles of the stove and fridge (stove is sprayed down and cleaned down at the same time as the counters). Then if necessary I will sweep and mp. Any recommendations for alternatives when you can't find the Swifter wetjet cleaning pads anywhere? I am tired of looking for them lol. I don't like moves and my kitchen and bathroom floors are very little spaces.

At this stage in my life I need marathon cleaning every day. So I do small cleaning every day. But now due to lockdown I go from room to room and deep clean. And I mean DEEP CLEAN. Washing walls, windows, curtains, bedding and organizing the closet. Takes me about 2 days per room. But hey lockdown has just been extended in South Africa so I have ALOT of time.
