You're getting emotional because you care about other people and want to help during this scary time, thank you and stay safe y'all ❤
Stay safe! ❤️
Agreed
Yes. Shows you're human and that you care.
A man🙏🏻🙏🏻
"I'm gonna stay in my lane" Melissa Maker, 2020
She is a big baller now.
Yes I am interested in steam cleaning routine.
Yes, please! Thank you!
Yes please
Yes please. Where do I buy one?
Me too! Specifically - can I use one to clean the glass on my oven door?
Yes, as well as specifics on how to disinfect a wooden cutting board (I have the same one as in the video and the cleaning advice you get specifically for cutting boards from the manufacturer vs a germaphobe (for example) are very different. I want ti to be germ-free, but I don't want to ruin it!
Perfect timing, still no case of covid-19 in our place, but we are in lockdown mode. Stay safe everyone.
Great time for everyone to deep clean
You are getting emotional because you are a REAL human who is dedicated to help others. Thank you for being emotional, thank you for your good advises. I wish you and your family health. Greetings from Bulgaria.
Very clearly explained and important differences pointed out between cleaning, sanitising and disinfecting! Brilliant video! Thank you! 👍👍👍👍👍
I like the traffic light🚦 explanation.
I would love to see a video about steam cleaners! I am thinking of investing in one so your recommendations would be appreciated :)
Bayoushka I’m also going to get one that also vacuumes
Be careful when you buy a steam cleaner. All of them do not get hot enough to sanitize and disinfect.
I would love to get a steam cleaner as well. I would love something for surfaces and floors
Me too!
My husband is going through chemo and radio. Thank you for your professional and honest advice ❤
Good luck 💕💪
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This week he was cleared. The tumour is completely gone ❤❤❤
May The Healing Hand of God and the precious Holy Blood of Jesus Christ cover your husband.
@@oldbroadabroad6619 I’m so happy to hear this!!
I have been to a lot of channels and I have to say Melissa is right on each time. Especially with what’s going on with the virus. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. No matter what. I’m in the medical field and trust me we can beat this if we just pay attention. Start with Melissa!
We feel your loving concern...its an emotional time...(lump in throat). I trust, and SEEK your expertise. Thank you so much. 🤗 I mean...elbow bump. 😉
Thank you - right back at you!
Right? I have been on the verge of tears so many times these past few days. Weird feeling of all being in it together, I think. Stay safe and healthy everyone, look out for each other!
Everyone should do standing ovation for professional cleaners. No joke you guys should get more respect than society gives you.
I did not expect to cry in the end of this video. I have been following your tips for over 8 years now. Melissa your videos are amazing and with your help I have up my game with cleaning. Which means keeping my family safe in these hard time. Greetings from New Zealand.
Perfect timing. Thanks, really thanks from Spain, and not just for sharing your tips, but also for not gossiping about other areas that are somebody else's expertise.
If it's useful for anybody...stay calm, but alert.
Yes please do a video on stream cleaning. I have one and I’ve only used it twice I’m afraid to use it 😔
I might be too. It might get hot enough to damage some surfaces.
My cleaning life change completed since I met you in RUclips in 2017 when I was pregnant of my first child. Thank you for sharing all you knowledge!
As a long time subscriber, I want to thank you so very much for providing the world with amazing options for cleaning and sanitizing recipes. With all of the big box and online stores running out of basically all of these things.... think of all of the people that will now have the knowledge regarding the making of eco friendly products!! Stay Healthy🚫🤢🤮
Thank you so much, Melissa, for always helping us.
Great space. thank for sharing
Really appreciate the calm and clear information. I've been watching your videos for a while, but missed the advice about letting the disinfectant sit for a few minutes. Thanks so much for re-stating that info here! Hoping everyone is staying safe out there.
Thank you for emphasizing the need to read the packaging. the video was very clear and easy to follow!
Thank You!! I certainly learned a few things today. Appreciate all your hard work & care that goes into sharing important information with us.
Love this. You've done such a great job in helping me clean & organize properly over the years. I've had strokes & asthma & my husband has horrible asthma, you're cleaning instructions has been a game changer in our lives. & this video is just what i needed right now, it gives me some control when I feel helpless. Keep up the great work, Melissa! Thank you!💛
Thanks so much for this video Melissa. I truly appreciate that in your video you're not pinpointing a specific 'bacteria' to clean, but you're teaching us how to clean and disinfect in general. I learned a lot!
Thank you so much for sharing. Stay safe as well
You make cleaning seem so easy! Thank you for the super informative content!
Thank you so much Melissa for looking out for us. We love you ❤️
Thank you for doing this. I was already disinfecting every 2 weeks, but hearing you go over the concepts really helps right now🙏 Appreciate your help and support💖
Thanks for the info! You’re getting emotional because you’re a sweetheart and this is serious. You all stay safe too.
Ah yes, thank you for this, perfect timing too.
Thanks for watching!
The past few weeks have been really hard, especially since I am already a stay at home mom and the way I normally stay sane is take my son out but that has been out of the question. So I started cleaning my house and Illuminating things every single day. Every morning with my cup of coffee I watch one of your videos to get me moving through the day and give me something to focus on. This video has been helpful and thank you so much. This isn’t an easy time for anyone but glad to see some positive in all of this. My house has never been cleaner and every day I throw something away or put it in my “donation” box. Also not sure if you have one of these groups near you, but we have a Buy Nothing group in my city and it’s nice to give something to someone who can really use it instead of throwing it out.
Since the beginning of the video I felt that you were sensitive and worry about all of us. I have been watching your videos for long time now and yet this face in this video is full of love for us and stressed to teach us what you know, it feels “not fake” or acted. Thank u for making this videos
Thank you for posting this! I'm taking Microbiology this semester (classes have been moved to online) and it's important to know these differences. Viruses and bacteria all have separate requirements to kill or slow the spread of them.
Yes, correct. The CDC website has shared the information I based the video on, and I am using the most relevant information for our time right now. But if you have anything to add, can you comment below this based on the facts you are seeing in your textbooks? Thank you :)
So does steam kill viruses? Like a steam mop?
Great video. I thought I’d throw in some more info as I work in contamination control in the life sciences industry. Please note, Disinfectants are not efficacious against spore formers; for example, c. Diff. The two types of disinfectants are actually phenolics and quaternary ammonium based compounds (think Lysol). Quats are actually better cleaners than phenolic based compounds. All EPA registered labeled claims are listed on the product labels on the product container. COVID-19 is an enveloped virus, like HIV, herpes etc and is actually much easier to kill on a surface than vegetative bacteria, gram negative bacterial, etc...
But what you said is correct that the surface needs to be cleaned first; all residue needs to be removed first prior to a sanitizer or disinfectant being applied. This way the chemical can thoroughly penetrate the surface and do its job. Hope this helps. 😊
I should have paid attention more in that class 😖😖😖
@@HeatherBray thanks for sharing your knowledge and hope you are safe in these sad times
Great information, and yes, I would love to know more about steam cleaning. I have one, but mostly use it for floors.
Thank you. It finally hit my household and I knew I could count on you for articulate, accurate, info. I learned and use your cleaning methods but coming back now for this reason puts me at ease. Thank you so much for sharing knowledge and your emotional because you care ❤
I am a physician and also a mother. This video is excellent. Melissa, your instructions are clear, intelligent and well-informed.
I'm so glad to find this today! With concerns of covid-19, this will help me at home and work.
Hi Melissa.. my life has changed when it comes in cleaning after i follow/subscribe you.. actually i even share this in my facebook account and ask my friends to follow you too
Thank you. That was very thoughtful for you to take time to coach us on how to effectively make our homes safer. Thank you. Also, love that belt!
Emotional? Because at the core of us, we are family!!! Thank you for continuing to share nuggets of 'health' with us. We rely on your expertise and appreciate your research. yep! We need each other!
Thank you for this, I've seen so many people that don't seem to understand how to disinfect properly, it was great to hear someone actually explain it correctly, including the wait times needed for the products to work. You mentioned that steam cleaners kill bacteria if they get hot enough do they also kill viruses at those temperatures? I am unable to find any information online about it that I'd call reliable as they tend to be trying to sell steam cleaners. If you do a video on steam cleaning that might be some good information to include
I had heard that steam cleaners don't actually sanitize or disinfect carpet but just freshen it. But I forget what it said about other types of floors.
200 degrees or above is what she said in video!!
I want to be in quarantine with Melissa.
Thank you for telling people how to disinfect. Working as a nurse in a hospital allows us to get the information directly from companies, but a person from another field may not understand. Ultimately this causes panic and overuse of harmful products. This video will help people strategically disinfect their home consistently. Thank you!!!
Hi Melissa, I just found you and binged watched more than 50+ your videos!! Absolutely love you guys!! I did a big decluttering exercise when I downsized homes so had no choice but to do it and now I seem to have let things go and living the minimalist lifestyle is what I want to aim for so I’m super excited to go through all of your videos to help me get there and learn all about good cleaning tips as well. I just bought a steamer and would love for you to share all the things that we can do with it. Thank you again, you guys are great!
I love that you didn’t say corona but cold and flu season !
My Rowenta garment steamer has been sitting in the closet for years, I almost took it to Goodwill. Sounds like I can use it to disinfectant areas of my home. Great video topic
Thank you, it’s tough not to become emotional. Many blessings to you.
For very wet disinfectant wipes tightly close top , turn upside down placing top against firm surface. The liquid will filter down. Many good points in this video, thanks for the helpful information.
I'd love a video on using a steam cleaner!
I’m emotional too. We will get through it. But it hurts to watch every single person we know and love struggle in some way.
Guys I love it that you guys didn't ask your viewers to 'Like this video' and 'Subscribe using this button here' to your channel! It just shows that you care more about people than 'Likes' and the commerce behind it.. Really appreciate it! Love you guys!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and positivity! 🌷
Yes! Steam cleaning video please
I just bought a clothes steamer and would love to see a video on how to use it on other surfaces and the bathroom
Cheers
👋🏽Hi Melissa. I’m happy to know that your family and you are safe. Thank you for this and all your informative videos. I believe you were getting emotional because this is a VERY emotional time. Please continue keeping your family healthy and putting out VERY useful information. Be well🙏🏽
The green/yellow/red stop light analogy is BRILLIANT!! As always, I appreciate you!
Thanks. I thought so, too!
Thank you so much! I would love to see a video on steam cleaning! I have one and it's a little intimidating.
ilene the steam hets hot enough to kill bacteria like a dishwasher would
I had a little handheld Bessel...all I can say is my sister had four colds during winter after I steamed she maybe got one or two colds so I feel confident it works! Plain tap water and let it heat up! No toxins, kill bacteria! Kills odor peace of mind! You can steam mattress pads and covers!prolly don’t wipe! Just let the steam do it’s job and kill those vermin👍
I'm engineer now. But in college I was a janitor between internships and I learned all these tips. My supervisor julio would yell at me for using the disinfect without cleaning first. Good info.
👍
julio is an idiot who just wanted to give you extra work
Thanks so much. Your calm professional presentation is very helpful. May you and yours remain well😊
Thank you. Be safe.
I would love a tutorial on steam cleaners particularly if they can be used on couches and upholstered beds. I have had mine for many years and they have NEVE been properly disinfected 🤦🏽♀️. I always thought I had to have an upholstery cleaner come to do that. If steaming is an option I’d like to try
good vides and yes how to use steam cleaner
Thank you Melissa 🤍💛🤍💛🌼
I have watched your videos for like EVER! I know you know your stuff and love how well you explain disinfecting for people to understand!
Great explanation, I would like to know how to use the steamer, I have one and I want to use it during this time, thank you.

Love your videos! They have helped me a lot in cleaning my own and others’ homes!
So many people are not" staying in their lane" on this. I wish everyone would just listen to the experts like you in every field. I think this could go a lot easier.
Rebecca Lunsford LoL. I wish our US president would “stay in his lane” and not talk about stuff he doesn’t understand in the national press conferences. But that would mean he would have to quit talking altogether. Sorry. Couldn’t help it. So hard watching him this am.
@@amygregg1658 I agree 100%. Our government here in Indiana needs to the same. They have kids out of school until May 1st. O think it's a too soon to make that call

Great video Melissa. The 🚦 is an excellent prompt to remember how to go about keeping our homes safe. So glad I have your book too!😊
I noticed there's a change in your ingredients of the all-purpose cleaner: are we getting rid of the rubbing alcohol part as mentioned in your book?
Thank you Melissa. YES more info on steam cleaning. PS I have been using my Steam washer and drying more than using HOT water. I am assuming that is safe and more cost effective. Can I use powder of Oxygen (Oxi Clean) when Steam washing for stains?
SO HAPPY i discovered your channel a while back - EXACTLY who I wanted to hear from after CDC/WHO. Glad to see you displaying your vast knowledge beyond helping us tidy up! Both of which, btw, I could not live without 😉🤗 THANK YOU! 💙

Most are simply interested in what specifically kills coronavirus right now, and all are not going to comprehend what your're saying here. Can you break it down to specifics for the coronavirus, please.
What?!!!!
Please, please, please do. Next video STEAM vid.

Thank you so much for sharing this vitally important information without any of the fear-mongering tactics we see all too often right now. It's GREATLY appreciated! 💜💚
**I SERIOUSLY WISH my home could look as uncluttered and pristine as yours, but I am down-to-earth realize that's just a pipedream; what I REALLY NEED is a practical guide to minimizing the risk here of anyone getting sick that might've been preventable! So, minimizing the risk on a high-risk homestead that is VERY lived-in, feeling it, and is in a constant state of flux.
It is SO DIFFICULT to try and determine a way to keep our home clean, sanitized, AND disinfected at any ONE POINT IN TIME, much less all the time, though I feel that we really need to. My home is a mix of the immunocompromised & mostly bedridden, high-risk due to underlying health issues, elderly who don't come into excessive contact with the outside world... And the youngest and healthiest of us (in the main/family house) who, ironically, travels constantly to un-/install equipment in hospitals all around the country! Added to that, we have multiple families with us (in other areas on the property) through work exchange programs who have young children and teens that often get sick and a couple of the ladies are nurses and daycare staff for disabled or very young children.
There is never a calm moment, especially with the children running through the house after playing with the animals or in the dirt, and there are ALWAYS multiple projects active at any given time, added to the logistics of running and maintaining a small homestead and farm. We try to always stay somewhat prepared for natural disasters (mostly hurricanes) as we live in the middle of nowhere, but everyone who can works so much that it's very difficult to try and make them properly wash up and disinfect!
Do you have some kind of checklist or schedule to help in these types of situations? During troubled times like these? This would be something I'd REALLY APPRECIATE! (Though I honestly am appreciating them all!)
Melissa, where do rubbing alcohol and peroxide fall on the scale? Are they acceptable disinfectants or sanitizers and do they require the same wait time to sit on a surface? Thank you!
@@catherine8256 Report any price gouging you see on eBay or Amazon. It's illegal
It takes 20 to 30 secs for soap and water to wash away bacteria and viruses. It takes alcohol that is 60% or more straight from the bottle to kill germs and viruses. If you mix a 60% alcohol with water or anything else it will dilute the strength making it useless against germs and viruses. To mix well you need 90% or more for the final product to be 60% and above (this is if you're trying to make hand sanitizer). You don't need any wait time though to make sure you want to make sure you have enough on the surface you're applying it too for 10 secs to 20 secs if it dries up before that then you need to add more. This goes for hands and surfaces. Example: If you made a homemade hand sanitizer with 90% alcohol and half aloe vera gel then the final product would have 60%+ alcohol level which is best. Then to apply it, you apply enough on your hands to spread on your entire surface back and front of hands rubbing for 10 secs to best kill all germs and viruses. If the sanitizer drys up before 10 secs then you need to apply more.
Hope this helps, stay safe out there.
@@catherine8256 what are rubbing alcohol boots?
Unfortunately cannot make our own disinfectant when every crazy person is hoarding bottles of alcohol. 😩
I believe you can use 100 proof vodka.
People are doing the same thing that you are trying to do. It doesn't make them crazy. No matter the product it is always first come first served. If you had gotten there before all the "crazy" people you would have done the same thing. If trying to keep ones family safe from this virus seems crazy to you then you are the type of person everyone needs to worry about. Think before you speak.
@@usfmom2002 spoken like one of the crazy people who feels the need to purchase way more than they need at one time leaving others to have to go without. You sound defensive, as you should if you are one of those selfish hoarders (my guess is you are.) So caring of you with your "first come first served" mentality. I'm sure you are aware that for many elderly people (also most vulnerable), a trip to the store can be challenging so they may not be able to be the first ones there or their health does not allow them to stand in line for an hour before a store opens. Congratulations on your compassion and concern for others. You have no idea what lin would have purchased when she went to the store. You sound like you are accusing her of doing what you did to try and justify your behavior. Just because you are greedy and selfish, disguising it as protecting your family, doesn't mean everyone is. Plenty of sane and rational people are purchasing just what they need rather than joining your group of crazies.
@@heatherburch7697 You want 140 proof/70% alcohol, according to the C.D.C..
@@usfmom2002 the people we are talking about aren't the ones buying enough for a week or two. We are talking about people who buy up everything they can find. Some are even trying to sell them to make a profit. I know people that can't find nappies for their babies. My mum works in care and they are running out of supplies like hand gel, disposable gloves and disposable aprons etc.
Take only what you need for 2 weeks, don't hoard when others are in desperate need.
Thank you Melissa!! Great, informative video!!
Awesome information. Thank you.
Hi CMS!
could you please do a video on how to clean a house when you have pets, e.g. dogs, cats, especially on how to treat issues with e.g. fleas, ticks using natural means. Thank you!
Going thru the same thing..bought a steam cleaner and mop. Got a lime sulfer dip from vet. And purchased narural repellent herbs like mullien chamomile sage oregano neem catnip peppermint tyme etc. Can be made into a herbal powder and rubbed into cats fur to repel fleas ticks mites. Also use hydrogen peroxide and acv to clean and sanitize surfaces. They have a good disinfectant product registered with the epa that you can buy. Its a unit you plug in and it makes a disinfectant solution by electrolyzing the water with the little packs that you mix into the water. The packs contain salt vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Its 90 dollars for whole kit but lasts 6 months. Im gonna be buying one as its cheaper then all the vinegar etc i buy now
@@blankmission5369 thank you very much for the useful and detailed information. Much appreciated!

EXCELLENT informative video. Thank you for doing this and sharing this video. I greatly appreciate it and have learned so much watching this.
You didn’t speak much about sanitizing, and when to sanitize and how? In which situations would you sanitize vs disinfect?
What steamer brand and model do you recommend? The ones I’ve seen on Amazon don’t go up to 300 degrees.
I really like Reliable!
