The Spanish showing up as the unlikely good guys to do away with this magical nonsense was the best part of this movie.
The actor that plays Uncle Vernon is Richard Griffiths, an extremely well known and beloved British stage and screen actor. He's been acting in film and theatre productions since 1976 and starred in plays prior to that. He's won countless awards. The Mrs was right with the pronunciation of Ponce. Also, how on earth have you got this far in life and never heard of Blackbeard?!.
This film is partially based upon parts of the story of an old novel entitled "On Stranger Tides." That novel is about the Fountain of Youth and the various adventures necessary to get there. It has a pirate named "Jack," Blackbeard, a female pirate (possible daughter of Blackbeard), a zombie crew, a race to get to the Fountain (between the Spanish and English) and, of course, ends with the pirate headed for Jamaica. Hence, this is the explanation of the name.
does it say what happened to the guy who went down with the mermaid?
@@benguensche Neither his character or the mermaid are in the book.
Penelope Cruz turned 50 this year. And she's just a beautiful as she every was.
According to a lot of their lore, kissing a Mermaid lets you be able to breathe underwater. But I think Syrena's intention to save Phillip was to somehow turn him into a Merman so they could be together forever. On a side note, thanks to this film, My Jolly Sailor Bold has become an unofficial theme song of Mermaids as a whole.
I've said this before, and I'll say it here, this is where Pirates of the Caribbean should've ended. It's so perfect, with Gibbs and Jack walking off together and "its a Pirates life for me" is the best line to go out on. Honestly i would've been completely on board if they pulled a star wars and spun the series off into books. I know alot of people who would read a jack sparrow book series.
...Didn't they make books of young Jack?
@@TimedRevolver They did.
The series should've ended at "At World's End" or skip this movie all together and continue with the fifth movie. This movie has one thing going for it and it's the mermaid mayhem scene.
@@MrHaleFive completely butchers Jack's past. Especially with how he got the Compass.
Not Mr. Movies saying "incessant writhing" sounds familiar 😂😂 poor Mrs. Movies has never cringed so hard at one of his sex jokes, that was too good 😂
She seems pretty uptight when it comes to that. She's probably the total opposite in private 😂
@@andygriffin9935 Probably because some RUclipsrs overshare, so she's going the other way with it.
This is usually considered a standalone film. It has a different director, Rob Marshall (who also directed the live action The Little Mermaid, so mermaids are a bit of a theme of his), so that's probably a part of the reason it feels so different from the first 3. That, and of course the absense of Will and Elizabeth. But I never get tired of Captain Jack Sparrow. I personally enjoy it for what it is. I wasn't a huge fan of the villain but I liked Jack and Angelica's chemistry. My favourite though is Philip and Syrena's story. I was OBSESSED with them and this is also where my crush on Sam Claflin began. He's in The Hunger Games too.
Penélope Cruz was pregnant during filming, with her husband's Javier Bardem's child (who is actually in the next film). She did all of her close-up action shots while her sister Mónica did all of the long-distance shots.
The King is played by Richard Griffiths who played Vernon Dudley in Harry Potter.
Fun facts: Ian McShane (Blackbeard) was considered to play Davy Jones, and Johnny Depp is the one who suggested turning Philip into a missionary and having a Spanish contingent following them.
Heartwarming fact: While filming in London, Johnny Depp reiceived a letter from a 9 year old girl, telling him her classmates needed help to "mutiny" against her teachers. He showed up with almost no warning at the school in full Captain Jack Sparrow outfit, but advised against mutiny.
Also, Johnny bought new water proof jackets for the 500 crew members on the set to protect them from the cold weather. He spent a total of 64.200 from his own pockets.
It all makes sense about Rob Marshall. That's why I loved his mermaids in both this movie and The Little Mermaid
Making Tortuga his first stop was a great idea to be honest. I mean all these people on board are either NEW to being pirates or new to Barbossa AS a pirate Captain or both. He needs to solidify his station as Captain quickly or have a mutiny. I have to feel like some of them were already the crew under Black Beard. So showing them a nigh or three at Tortuga and paying for their fun is a great way to establish a short term loyalty. The rest he'll obviously do as they sail longer with him.
The mermaids are considered sirens in this movie which are mixed with a beautiful voice but ungly succubus bodies but in this they are beautiful as well
Mermaid translates in my language Sirena 🤔
"Mermaids are sweet, they'll sweetly drown you if you get too close".
- Peter pan
"Someone make a note of that mans bravery"
Amazing
The king at the beginning is George II, King of Great Britain and Ireland, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Hanover/Germany) and prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire (also "old" Germany/central Europe). He was one of the few foreign born kings of Great Britain, born in northern Germany. Such mariages were pretty normal back then to unite the royal houses within Europe to secure peace/trade etc.
Mrs Movies... Blackbeard was a real life notorious pirate active from 1716 to 1718 off the coast of the Carolina colonies. Real name Edward Teach.
His actual death was in battle with the Royal Navy where he was shot and stabbed several times, and then decapitated.
Obviously THIS version of Blackbeard is fictionalized.
Blackbeard and Maynard both shot at each other Blackbeard missed but Maynard shot him in the shoulder then Blackbeard took out his cutlass and knocked Maynard's sword out of his hand but before Blackbeard could deliver the killing stroke a sailor stabbed him in the back
"Sounds familiar..." LMFAO!!!
This is better than i thought it would be .. i also love the mermaids and Barbosa is my fav character! The title stranger tides just means they are on different waters/ area than the Caribbean lol
I think the term you were looking for regarding ying to jack's yang: Foil.
5:39 Uncle Vernon from Harry Potter 🥳🥳🥳
To quote Jayne Cobb, "I could stand to hear a little more."
They did a Blackbeard mini series in 06 that was a good watch. Angus Macfadyen plays a great Blackbeard.
Yep. All about the titles, I mean even Apollo creed was announced as: "The King of Sting, The Prince of Punch, The Dancing Destroyer, The Thane of Pain, The Count of Monte Fisto, The Master of Disaster, The One and Only Apollooooooooo Creeeeeeeeed!!!"
I mean without all those names he's not the same guy. 😁😁😁😁
In the finale of POTC 3, everybody was like
"Jack's got the map to The Fountain of Youth and he's gonna go after it"
Part 4 wasn't going to happen for awhile and I couldn't wait to see it.
The director Rob Marshall made "Into The Woods (2014) and Mary Poppins Returns" (2018).
Johnny Depp reteamed with Penelope Cruz (Angelica), a decade after the late Ted Demme's
crime drama BLOW (2001) and both still got that chemistry.
I like how these movies tackle more of the myths and legends in those times.
The fountain, Mermaids, Blackbeard, etc made things more adventurous.
This one had mixed reviews.
All the signatures we know and Depp still holds it down with good ol' bravado.
This installment broke a lot of records in it's year of release and
was the most expensive movie ever made for it's time.
Send Mrs. Movies to learn more Mermaid Lore....
SPLASH with Daryl Hannah!!
These movied are so good, shame Disney isn´t what it was.
Btw Serena is similar to syrena which in Polish means mermaid 😉
Then that is from Sirens of greek myth.
I think that was Greenwich where he met the King. I went there some years ago when conservatives were restoring the painted ceiling.
So sad that they missed the opportunity, to have a Stone (Keith) and a Beatle (Paul) in one movie...
Now I want you to watch The Magic Sword (1962).
Jack Sparrow surely is ready to sacrifice himself in this movie many many times for people he barely knows. In first three he put people he liked a ton more in very deadly situations without blinking an eye lol
Nonono, not "Pants of the lion!" It's pant o' de loin!
I can't wait for Dead Men Tell No Tales....i'm so pumped
I enjoy watching movies with you guys....
Barbossa is the highlight of the last 2 movies, his character arc is the most interesting ( Jack always stays the same so his character got a little boring for me )
for 25:10 moments.. I sprayed my hot coffee to my lap from my mouth... I burned :D hahahahah That's so direct joke bro :D So tough joke :))
EDİT; 46:55 dirty joke part 2 hahaha :D
There is a mermen - but he is on Eternia fighting against the masters of the universe 😅
This one is my favorite tbh. I love everything about it. I think it is the best movie.
Seryna (Mermaid) kissed the missionary giving him the ability to breathe under water. They probably went off to have some fun time.
16:13 you should check out Disney’s “Blackbeard’s Ghost”. It has Dean Jones from “Herbie” in it.
Yes -- and Herbie The Love Bug as well!
I like all of the Pirate movies! I hope one day you guys will do a reaction to "The Perfect Storm"
At World’s End introduced Calypso as far as lore goes
LoL how you never read,or hear of fairytale kiss from mermaid allow you to breath underwater xD
25:00 😆 31:20🤣
The last pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men tell no tales
Miss movie has a good take on this one.😊
Amazing movies for great reactions 👍🏻☺️ Keep up the good work
Love you guys so much your so awesome
I like how Blackbeard burns incense in his beard.
It's not incense... from historical record, he used tar to dread his beard and would light the ends before a battle so that they would smolder and make him look more fearsome. Apparently, it worked since he is pretty much the most infamous pirate throughout all history.
@@michaelshelton8802 Cool
How could she say King George was ugly?
His nickname was in fact Gorgeous George.
25:00 😂 31:20 🤣 46:49 🤔
By far my favorite Pirates movie of them all, haters can kiss my a$$. ;)
u got bad taste in movies, this was horrible
I agree. This film is underrated. It's leagues above stinkers like Pirates 3. I even like it more than Pirates 2.
Aye! It's a touch pick for me between this, the fist and the last one. I like this one more because there's no romance drama. I hate such things. I'm interested only in the adventure. Don't care about the 2nd and 3rd. Didn't like them.
Drop your pants!
@ccchhhrrriiisss100 Stinkers like 3? Dude, you people have horrible tastes in films. I can't even watch this one without falling asleep. I honestly believe you people are trying to be contrarian for the sake of it. I honestly cannot remember a single line from this film it's so forgettable and the characters in it don't even make sense because they aren't even brought up in the next film. You people who hate on 3 disgust me.
You two NEED to watch Splash!
I like all these movies. This might not have been as good but it’s still good and fun to watch
50:48 Get off me 😂😂😂
What I don't like about this movie and the next compared to the first 3 is that Jack seems to just stumble along amd get through things with sheer luck rather than in the first 3 where you genuinely didn't know if he had planned a lot of it as he went along cause he was just that good. It dumbs his character down to the point of stupidity when that's not who Jack is.
I've never seen this one, but, based on this video, I think it's either before 3 or after it: 1, 2, 3, 4, or 1, 2, 4, 3.
I know this Isn’t a good film… but honestly this one entertained me more than 2 or 3 did… 1 is still lightyears ahead but i just enjoy this movie no matter how dumb it is at points. Not trying to change anyone’s minds just my personal opinion
No. This one is by far the best. The first one is overrated.
09:31 maybe i misheard
Paul..!? Van Dame😅
This is where the franchise started barrel scraping
2:53 😂😂😂
25:11 😂😂😂😂
I liked the beautiful little mermaid 🧜🏻♀️. Like in order of 1 2 3 then 4
Deadwood is one of the greatest shows ever 👍
I actually really like this one
Mrs Movie must have suffered concussions if:
1: she never remembers anything about any serious of movies or shows you all watch
2. She likes this Pirates as much as any of the previous 3
When discussing what the mermaids would do to Penelope Cruz I was waiting for Mr Movies to say I’d eat Penelope Cruz.
I must say I like it better on a rewatch. I just wasnt a fan of the whole mermaid and fountain of youth aspect, but it's fun to see Barbosa and Jack in form. It's a bit more 'loose'.
If you want to watch a more hard hitting version of piracy, look at Black Sails. A brilliant series
23:10 That was a waste of a perfectly good utility boat.
The first movie was originally just meant to be a stand-alone; then it made a gazillion dollars, and so Disney decided to turn it into a trilogy. Those two movies also made money, so Disney decided to make another movie (this one), and then another. Now they're talking about making yet another, but (last I heard) without bringing back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. I don't think anybody really thinks that even has a chance of being good.
I rather like the back to basics approach of this movie.
Hi Guys, if you would like to see a British comedy about Mermaids, please react to Miranda, 1948. It stars Glynis Johns & David Tomlinson (The Parents from Mary Poppins) & Margaret Rutherford (Comedy Actress, probably Best Known for her 4 Agatha Christie films of the early `60`s.).
Great 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I noticed that Tommy’s onboard. Where’s Turkish?
28:34/This Mermaid is a very beautiful ladie mermaid!! ❤ ❤️🩹 ❤️🔥
Depp and Judi Dench are close friends.
3:35 Can you imagine what it must have smelled like in there?
Watch Black Swan (1942) both of you guys will dig it this pirate movie!
You Should watch walking Negans shit is the best shit
👍
Its not the best one, but its deff a good one. A fun watch. Less serious than the last two, but i did like 2 and 3 a lot
28:34/I would love to be taken care of by the mermaids.... out on the Sea ⛵!! 😊 ❤
Pre-modernity Europe? BRING OUT THE DESATURATION FILTERS AT ONCE!
You need to watch deadwood. I'll upgrade just for that.❤
Merman ? What , you mean Derek Zoolander is in this ?!
Привет друзья , рад вас видеть✌
Actually Mr. Movies pronunciation of Ponce De Leon was not bad, Mrs. Movies pronunciation sounded very French 😂
🖖
25:21 Not uncomfortable at all. You are two beautiful people that should experience the full power of the force. Mrs Movies you have the grace of a lamb. while Mr movies sits like some sort of ancient monkey. Embrace the weird, take a chance. Or don't I'm drunk as hell.
They should have ended after the third one but Disney is greedy.
Hey can you guys react to the movie "Fresh" with Samuel l Jackson? I'd really love to hears your commentary on it. ☺️☺️☺️
Come on now....who wouldn't want to steal a kiss from a mermaid..? Especially one as lovely as Serena, or even Marina.....Aqua Marina...
What do you think of Philip and Syrena’s love story? I love them personally.✝️❤️🧜♀️
I wanted to eat fried haddock fingers with my new boyfriend, Philip. 😂😂
Actually, it's the best movie out of five. Just because of the story. All the other movies of this franchise exploit too ordinary, overly hackneyed (to my taste) themes. Although they do it beautifully, surely.
The only thing I enjoyed about this movie were the mermaids being treated as scary killer creatures.
thank the lord she didn't live to see her son as a mermaid.
When is this torture END
This is usually considered the "worst" one, but I still enjoy seeing it. It's definitely different from the first 3.
Mrs. Movies lack of historical knowledge is telling.
This one was weaker than the first three. But much better than the final one
This movie its really a mess for me. I think 2 and 3 still writing carismatic characters. I like Penelope Cruz but I just know her name because I watch now:Angélica?
