Love it! In the market for bags, myself, and those first bags you had looked like a LOT of work to get in and out of. Interested in seeing the installation and hearing your review!
I just took another look at the Viking site, and in one view, they show the bags on a Hog. Then they show the bags on the side of a Rebel, they must be glued on.
@@jamescampolo7824 Why would it though? but a good question is to see if they offer the new hardware as a kit. I would recommend watching the installation video and then deciding on a course of action, you never know, you might like the new hardware and the way i installed it on the rebel
@@ontherebel11 Anything would be better than the junk Viking sent me. Viking sent me nothing close to workable. As I said, the bags flopped around and stripped out the fender mounts. Viking just sources this stuff, puts their name on it and resells it. They don't make/design anything. The instructions are totally genaric. Most other companies make stuff explicitly for the Rebel and have pictures and diagrams on mounting their stuff on the Rebel.
Gus, here is a video of a guy pulling his hair out trying to mount the Viking bags on his Rebel with the Viking hardware. ruclips.net/video/YmRBR-eYsWc/видео.htmlsi=z9WniZDQw9iCpYVH
I bought a set of Raven XL 34 "leather" bags from Viking for $499. The bags are fine, the mounting system or lack thereof SUCKS! First of all, the bags arrived without keys for the locks. Then they sent new locking hardware and again no locks with the tumblers and keys. Then finally I got all of the bag hardware I needed, but not adequate mounting hardware. So I asked them, what you are telling us is, scrap the hardware that comes with the bags and buy an alternative system.I tried to use Viking's system, had to buy new bolts the correct size, had to buy some tubing to shim up the hardware so the bags didn't wobble, then after a couple hundred miles, the bolts stripped out of the fender threads and the right bag was riding on the muffler. I contacted Viking and they told me "that is all you get, we don't have other mounting hardware". So, Gus, if you have contacts with Viking, tell them they owe me adequate mounting hardware. After all, I am over $500 into this and they still sit on a shelf in the garage. Another thing, to this day, their installation video is on a Hog and nothing relavent to the Rebel. Until they come up with a working mounting system, I wouldn't deal with them. After watching this video, it looks like I spent $499 for the bags and have to spend another couple hundred for mounts? WTF?
Oh no, that sucks James! sorry to hear about your experience bro.... i've completed a detailed installation video, hopefully this will help the rebel 1100 community make their decision regarding bags. I am happy to share that they have changed their mounting hardware, they are much better and sturdier, they also supply spacers along with the bolts, you'll see that in the coming video. as an added bonus, i'm also happy to share with you that they are developing a quick connect system specifically made for the rebel!! it will be out in apx 2 months, i will do a follow up video once i get those! you'll see in the installation video that the bags are rock solid!! for the record, i'm a tinkerer, so i always have spares around when it comes to spaces and bolts etc, i'm always prepared to change things around to make it work.
I’m debating hard bags myself. I was looking at these and Shad’s offerings. If only Shad would stay in stock (about the same price as Viking but the cases are 23L each as opposed to 34L total).
Hi Mark!!! I've looked at so many as well, For my taste and needs, these are the best fit. I can't wait to stress test them on a long trip!!! Very excited to see how much i can carry compared to the SWmotech bags i used.
Curious if you might do a video on the SLC carrier to Viking bags. May do it myself. I prefer the look of the Viking bags over shad (but was worried with some other people’s experience who mounted it directly with Viking hardware).
Hey Rebel Bro. I have the 2023 1100dct Tour model. Absolutely love it. I have a question, I just changed my rear tire. Using one of your videos as a guide on how to remove and reinstall the back tire. After installing new tire, I took it for a ride. The tourge/ traction control light blinks and stays on. I can't figure it out. I have no clue what happened. Any ideas?
Hi Jim! Watch this video at 33:45, I discuss the possible issue that may result in that. It's the pulser ring and speed sensor that could trip the TC light. I think I have bad news re: these bags. I just completed (7.3.24) an online chat with a Viking rep and was told they no longer sell hard bags for the Rebel 1100, and do not have plans to bring it back. Ugh! Has anybody else had a different experience?
