Dear Sophie, I'm a portuguese from Lisbon and I need to tell you this: PLEASE, please don't buy any of the old tiles you see in flea markets. If they are old it means they were stollen from the beautiful old buildings of the city. It's a big problem here. If you want to buy tiles please do it in some nice shops (not the fake touristic ones). "A Vida Portuguesa", "Cortiço e Netos" or "Viúva Lamego" are very good options. Welcome to Lisboa!
My friend once bought a fake bag and showed it to me mysteriously. I thought it was real, but she said she found it by accident and shared the link with me. *gtdupe*
I've been changing countries every few months, and honestly, I’m tired of it. I only have one suitcase with everything I need, but what I truly need is to settle down and find a place to call HOME❤ Thank you for the video
Usually moving is regarded as a tense, nostalgic action. You made this transition look very smooth and calming, embracing the in-between and honoring both the place you're leaving behind and the one you are stepping into.
When I think of the word “mindful” and “intentional”, I think of you and your essence. Thank you for sharing this part of your journey with us. Can’t wait to see you decorate your new space! 🩵

but but but... she leaaves all her stuff behind in hawaii only to basically repurchase in portugal..speak about waste..not a great way to do anything but then of course..it's all about her, always.
Thank you for sharing the not-so-glamorous side of moving abroad. I've been steadily decluttering for over a year and this week I packed most of my stuff into my mum's car ready to soon move back home. It felt so good not having to take long to pack up my belongings and knowing they were pieces I really enjoy. Also, feeling a bit less guilty about having stuff, that's ok too.
Thanks, Sophie! This is so timely as we are preparing to move cross-country before year's end. One task after another, praying for each one to happen. Thankful as we are continuing to accomplish so much! ❤ May your move & resettling go smoothly. ❤
Hello sophie, in a world of chaos your video brings a sense of calm and serenity. I'm looking at your videos and these days i love to do social media detoxification, journal my thoughts and practice positive affirmations that helps me in mind decluttering.
I love this so much. We moved to Lisbon in August with 2 suitcases, 3 crates, and a few large duffel bags of clothes for our family of 4. While there are things I wish I brought (I miss my pillow that I LOVED), it's nice to have only brought what we actually felt right to bring. Otherwise, we're trying to furnish our place mindfully and only buy what we love. I love your videos, such a reinforcement that it's the right way to go!
Sophie, I actually wonder how you do all these and cope with it. Moving around soooo many times requires A LOT of mental energy imo. The grief, the longing, old people, adaptation, self-identity that tied to cultures/places You are such a brave woman indeed (It was just what I imagined it to be, correct me if I am wrong 🙏🏻)
It's been a really difficult 2 years honestly. I know it's something we chose, but moving around so much is never easy, and I felt a lot of guilt too. Dealing with it one day at a time
Congratulations on your move. Thank you for sharing this difficult journey. We all need to be more realistic about what we buy and should ask ourselves these questions about every purchase whether we're moving or not. Best wishes!
@@MalamaLife It's 2:17 am here in our country. You've said in one of your video. Your not after with expensive product deals, views or even inspired people -- since this is an outlet of your creativity. But you did inspire us! More power to your channel. 🍀
Congratulations moving back to Portugal! Your videos resonate with me a lot. I’ve made a few international moves in my time and am now renting a new place with my partner that I hope to call home for a while. I’ve been living in a ‘temporary mindset’ for years and have been rather minimalist for about 7-8 years now, but at this stage in my life, I’m so desperate to finally have a reliable base I can call home, without the fear that I might have to move again in the coming years. Living temporarily can be wasteful too - buying cheap necessities and then having to sell them with the next move. It has cost money and was wasteful. I’ve hoping to set out with the mindset that this is my home now, and to buy some larger items that I actually love and want to keep for decades. No matter what happens with life and visas, I’ll make those tough choices should they arise, rather than living in fear of them.
This video made me think: not every story should have an end…sometimes we enjoy unfinished stories more if the narrator is as genuine and authentic as you are 🤍 thank you for being here!
I completely agree! It sounds like a smart decision to leave some things behind, and it’s great that you found a way to ship your belongings without hefty fees.
We did the same. Sold our house in LA and moved to Porto about 2 months ago when we knew we needed a change. Dude, dog and I. We love it so far. And the flea markets in Lisboa are amazing.
Hi Sophie ! Have been following you for more than a year now and you have greatly inspired me. I apply so many of your decluttering tips and thou I haven’t become 💯 mindful about my shopping but I do have improved and have learned to say NO.
@@MalamaLifeAs last night you said that you are going to upload today in the morning I started rewatching some of your old videos and they gave me a feeling of that urgently I have to declutter some of me things that I no longer used, it's what I did today and the feeling afterwards is so liberating . This is exactly what happened to us when we moved to the Big Island from mainland. We thought we were going to ship stuff and last minute we just decided to move with just 4 suitcases and and paid to check in 4 plastic bins, and we each had our carry-ons. Family of 4 plus a dog!! My husband's family has moved like crazy, and they have never downsized while moving and it has always been irritating to see. All their stuff is piled up in their garage untouched or piled up in the rest of their house (they are hoarders and cluttered). While moving can instill the ability to downsize for some, it doesn't work for all. I am glad that you plan what to take and what to leave behind when you do all your moves. That's good. The flea market can be fun and is a good way to keep a lower carbon footprint too. Another lovely video.
