[Spoiler: Longer read]I really appreciate your video to that! But unfortun. I cannot agree 100% to what you are saying. No memory - true; no extreme temperatures - true; no calibration - true; fast charging bad - true; When it comes to "how to charge" I can not agree. Those are Lithium Ion batteries and there still are some rules to remain fully capacity for a longer time and get out more charging cycles and what you can do for that. Those batteries don't like being close to one end: 0% battery or 100% battery - the more you go above or below 50% they "wear out" faster (less charing cycles). That's why Apple (and others) recommend storing those batteries at that levels. But at the same time "short time charing" (under 15min.) is not recommended. What does that mean for you as a user? Best would be to plug it in at between 30-40% and take it off the charger at 70-80%. This stresses the cells way less than bringing it to 100% with every charge. That's also why your iPhone charges between 0-20% and above 80% way slower than in that "middle range" - it knows where to handle the battery with "more care" in that critical "end areas". Also, you shouldn't re-charge your device when the battery level is above 70%. So in short ideal: 1.) never let it drop below 20-30%; 2.) never charge it above 80%; 3.) avoid "short time charging" (less than 15min.), 4.) Never re-charge when the battery level is above 70%. Sure, I know it is not possible to fulfill that in everyday life. Just keep it in the back of your mind. But that's the best way to care for an Lithium Ion battery - you can squeeze out almost 3times more charging cycles Apple claims it to have. I have a MacBook Pro and care for it that way. Right now, I'm on charging cycle 1,800 and no real slow down (Apple says: max. 1,000 cylces). Some of my colleges have already problems at 500 cycles. Where I know that about batteries from? I'm working at battery research for years and you can also re-check that at battery university.
Hi. Can I charge my 13" 2017 MacBook Pro with my 12W iPad charger? Would that damage the battery?... Thanks for your very informative comment. I just learned I shouldn't leave my laptop connected the whole night and charge it from 50 - 100%.
Andy Morel hey! Thank you for your reply! That probably might work - technically. But I wouldn’t recommend it, because higher capacity need a (recommend) higher power input. In that case it’s mostly the charger that comes with it - I wouldn’t go below that. Except it’s a “fast-charger” - then you can read in the manual the “minimum power” that is recommend for it. One reason of the reason is that the computer components need that power (like the processors) to run (on peaks) - when the charger delivers less power the computer switches to the battery and the battery level goes down while charging. So it’s constantly switching between charger in battery- which means permanent short-time charging/discharging within minutes, that stresses the cells in the battery and might shorten it‘s lifespan. You should look up what Apple recommends you as „least powerful“ charger and I would go with that. And I‘m not writing about using the iPod charger from time to time (that might wouldn’t have much affect), but as a permanent solution I‘d still go with the least powerful standard charger.

Some concerns. 03:09 This shows only 170 cycles. That's not much use. Basically 50% per day. So the battery hasn't been used enough to be drained significantly. 03:46 This one does show the number of cycles at all. How can we gauge the usage without that piece of information?
I’m so glad I’m subscribed to your channel. I just installed the Lirium Info Lite app on my iPhone 6 Plus and found out my battery life is at 58%. Omg it’s time for a replacement. Thanks again.
@@charleskim6711 charging your phone 20-80 percent only counts around .2 cycles, so charging most of the way but not to full saves the battery health a lot over time

Charles Kim no that’s not a good analogy. Every percent of a battery doesn’t count the same when calculating cycles. The last 20 percent of a battery is where most of the cycle gets counted, so that 60% top up from 20-80 percent only counts like .2 cycles. Would love to see the difference in charge times. Also leaving it on a wireless charging pad overnight shouldn’t be a problem? Thanks
My cousin and I discovered that our different charging practices do affect battery life. We both got our 10S Max’s 1 year ago. She charges always overnight, her battery life is at 91% 1 year later. I never charge mine overnight, just a bit here and there throughout the day, rarely to full and my battery life is still at 100% 1 year later.
Hey Aaron! First just wanna say that I appreciate everything you do and keep up with goo work! Q is I travel a lot, I am in trucking industry and 80% of time I charge my IPhone X just with car charger-Anker using original cable. Is that affecting anyway on battery in a bad way?
Bro please reply me hope today i got reply ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🥺 I am confused which charger should i buy for my iphone 12 pro max 5w , 18w or 20w ???????? Did fast charger drain battery health fast ? Please reply which is best ❤️🙏🏻
I started using a 12 watt charger on my 7 plus that I had since March. Before I used the iPad charger the life of my battery was at 97% after a month in a half of using the iPad charger on my iPhone 7 Plus the life of my battery went down to four percent to 93% in a month in a half so I’d recommend using the regular charger if you want your battery life to last you a long time
That's not true my 7 Plus is 3 years old and I'm using the 12w charger from starting, I've not opened the seal of 5w charger yet and my battery health is 85%!
My wireless chargers get my Xs too hot, and are really slow. I don't use them any more. They don't get as hot if I take the case off, but who wants to to that every time. I use the lightning cord now and don't have a problem with it getting hot.
the app doesn't seem to be legit..I had my 7 plus for almost year and it shows 3000/2900 for battery wear level..So the battery is still at 100% capacity...weird
Stefan Mollov My iPhone SE is 88% after two years ((I got it used in February)) i think that’s pretty good. Your comment made me laugh out loud, by the way. 😂
George Baglaridis it’s actually better to use the phone while plugged in as much as possible because the source of power is coming straight from the outlet, not the battery. as of the heat concern, just don’t play intensive games and edit videos on your phone while charging
Thanks! If I had a dime for every time I had to explain charging myths, I'd be ... well, at least a few bucks richer. Thank you for presenting this. I won't have to explain anymore, I'll just point them to this vid! :)
How could you retain 96% of the battery life even after a year? I changed my iPhone 6s Plus battery in December 2018 but the battery capacity has reduced to 95% I charge my phone once a day no matter the battery is fully drained and unplug the charger as soon as the battery reaches 100% Your comments please. Thanks!
Useful app. Although I have found a bug in it with the iPhone X. If you touch the three horizontal lines at the top left and then on the next screen, look at the orange section at the top left, you will see what I mean. Basically the clock overlays on to the wording, and also the sensor bar cuts off the rest of the wording and you can't read it. Definitely needs looked at and sorted out by the developer.
Thank you so much for this video! Recently got my iPhone 7+ and I usually drain the battery till 10% then charge to 100% now I could charge anytime worry free thank you so much again Aaron;)
1. try to reset it via only iPhone preferences if there is not change: 2. make a backup ok your mac/pc and set it up as a new device (wipe before) and install your backup on the „new“ device 3. Give the iPhone a week or 2: the reason is that the device loads a lot of data after your update. Hope it works (I did all the 3 steps and it works now more fluent and the battery is a lot better)
Okay so youre pretty much saying everyones battery is different. I had my iphone 8 plus for less than 4months and i only charge it when it has 15% and never let it charge over night or touch 100%. I take it off at 90-98%. the battery life for it is 96% what bullSht is that? I dont use the phone as my daily, just use it to play app games at home.
I plugged it in for 1 day and half, just forgot to unplug it, I thought I killed the battery but no, it's working perfectly fine:)) funny, one day without my phone wouldn't kill me
My 6S Plus will be 2 years old in January, according to Lirium the battery health fluctuates. Sometimes it says 87% and sometimes 83%. Would you consider this normal behavior? Might be due to the heat from the Caribbean?
I just got a new iPhone 11 and a 20W charger for it. So I should not worry about my battery health as long as my phone will not heat in the charging process?
Yes it does, iphone 8 here and 104% battery life. Btw it doesnt matter at what percentage you charge it, what matters is the temperature of the phone when you charge it as well as operating temperature. For example if it is too hot while you are playing games, id rather stop the gams and wait for it to cool down. Apparently overheating/freezing temp is the only major cause for battery wearing out. Id also suggest not charging while playing as it builds up more heat on the battery.
Your phone is running applications even when you’re not using it. The only danger to using it while charging is messing up your cable/charging port from jerking the cable.
hI Aaron how good and how precisely the lithium lirium app is ?? its correct about the battery life displayed ? thanks your the best, i have turned on notifications about your videos ! ur nr1
Even though this video is titled "iPhone ... myths" this applies to every modern good-quality smartphone. But one question, you said that it doesn't matter wether you charge overnight or not, but then later on mention that keeping the battery at under 80% prolongs the battery's lifespan. I thought this was a myth? If your source is BatteryUniversity, their graphs and sources are 8+ years old. Thanks for the wallpaper link btw!
The "don't charge it during the day" myth probably stems from the Lightning port. Although the battery will be fine, remember that you only have so many cycles (number of times you've plugged it in and unlplugged it) before it will stop working. If you use wireless charging, you should be fine.
Just got ip8+ & iPad Up graded from 5c cuz I live in a rural area & stores are 10m away Bought the car Charger and nothing. Ip5 dead in 2hrs. I plugged my iPad charger into my 5 and got 💯% In 1/2 hr. but still last 2hrs. Is it save for me to use my iPad charger on my new 8? You’re Video is so true by the way.
I just recently got an iPhone SE used, & it says the battery compacity is 88%, is that good? Or will I need to replace the batter soon? A reply would be much appreciated.
Is your device new? You should definitely call Apple support if it was because it should not come with a degraded battery. If it was not a new device then it is fine. The 88% is literally just saying it can reach 88% of it’s original maximum capacity.
qwertylerqw3 It’s not brand new, as I said, I got it used from a family member. They had it for two years, & I just brought it off them last month, for $100. The capacity now says, 87%, I hope that’s not too bad. I need this phone to last me at least two years. Thanks for the reply by the way.
actually this vid feels like an ad for that app more likely but thanks anyway.. though for the battery thing i ve learnt from iphone battery's that.. if you use the phone like 4 years and that battery life drops below %80 and you get a new battery you may confront some mainboard issues.. so it ll be better change the battery right after 3 years if you need or want to use the same iphone..
It’s not though. Prior to Apple actually putting battery health in the phone, this is all I could find. While your statement is true for longevity, I don’t know a single person who keeps their phone over 2 years so why not just ignore it and plug it in and enjoy the phone.
Thanks for your great video! Maybe stupid question, I've got the iPhone 8. Does having the phone with Bluetooth on use much more power or not, battery wise?
keith plunkett Bluetooth in general is very low power. However, if you don't have anything connected to it such as headphones or an Apple Watch then you might as well turn it off.
I know this is old... but no, you don’t have to do that. Whenever the phone gets to 100% it stops charging, so it will not continue to be hot the whole night. It’s equivalent to charging it normally
Smartphones are built to prevent their batteries from being overloaded. If you leave your phone to charge overnight, it will reach 100% capacity then stop, although it will continue to top up the battery every time it falls to 99%. This can shorten the battery’s lifespan somewhat.
Phones tend to charge well with very little power. IPads and tablets however need a higher current. So while a computer's usb port (0.5 amps) is good enough for a phone and 1amp is plenty, both will be slow for an iPad or tablet. Bigger device bigger battery capacity. My phones for example have a 1800-2100 mAh capacity. My tablet is close to 6000. So yes, the charger made for the bigger batteries will charge a phone up about as fast as it can go.
See he uses different phones throughout his day. That’s why all of them have good battery health. We don’t have the money to do that
I had iPhone 6 Plus for 5 years, and the battery status is 84%. It was my only phone that I used every day and charged almost every day.
K. C. Ay i got the iphone 8 since it got out so 2 yrs ago and got 85% :/
@@saeoce4794 I'm not sure why, but maybe because I don't play mobile games too often?

Hey, can you do a video comparing the charging times for iphoneX using 5w and 7.5w wireless chargers along with - normal 5w + usba cable and USB c cable. Then using the iPad and Mac chargers. Would love to see the difference in charge times.
Also leaving it on a wireless charging pad overnight shouldn’t be a problem? Thanks
Interesting video, Aaron :) liked it 👍
12w adapter is best $20 you can spend for fast charging any iPhone.
In my experience yes the 12w ipad charger did charge faster but again it will strain the batteries and your wear level could be higher
@@hehehdhhshdb In India it's priced at $30
@@mananagarwal7002 Apple products are likely to be more cheaper in the future now since Apple is supposedly starting production in India.
@@MrIDGAF Yes! But for now iPhone XS Max 512 GB is priced at $2100
@@mananagarwal7002 That's crazy. They're not worth 2,000.
Excellent video. Couldn’t have explained everything any better than you did. Great job!
Excellent video as always! 👍🏻
5:02 Every 2 years I would recommend swapping the brick for safety reasons because it could short circuit over time and start a fire.
103% Battery Health
2800/2716
iPhone X
My cousin and I discovered that our different charging practices do affect battery life. We both got our 10S Max’s 1 year ago. She charges always overnight, her battery life is at 91% 1 year later. I never charge mine overnight, just a bit here and there throughout the day, rarely to full and my battery life is still at 100% 1 year later.
I always use 20 to 80 rule my battery will never under charge or over charge which causes battery capacity to deteriorate
IPhones learn your waking schedule and save the last 20% of charge for like 20 minutes before you wake up, so that's not necessary
Hey Aaron! First just wanna say that I appreciate everything you do and keep up with goo work! Q is I travel a lot, I am in trucking industry and 80% of time I charge my IPhone X just with car charger-Anker using original cable. Is that affecting anyway on battery in a bad way?
Hi Aaron I have iphone se just had replacement phone on on 9th of January 2019 and battery capacity is at 95% should i be worried or not
No, just ignore it and enjoy using the phone
Use until you run into battery issues.
Bro please reply me hope today i got reply ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🥺
I am confused which charger should i buy for my iphone 12 pro max 5w , 18w or 20w ????????
Did fast charger drain battery health fast ? Please reply which is best ❤️🙏🏻
For those who were asking what app was he using, it’s Lirum Device Info Lite.
Jaztin Del Rosario sandwich?
He literally said it in the video..
Random Stuff I like sandwich.
Jaztin Del Rosario can you make me one please?
Random Stuff okay! 😄
Great job with this video. It is very informative. I hope this helps people understand how the batteries on our Apple devices work.
Thank you for confirming what I’ve always thought.
Thank you Aaron. Very informative video.
I started using a 12 watt charger on my 7 plus that I had since March. Before I used the iPad charger the life of my battery was at 97% after a month in a half of using the iPad charger on my iPhone 7 Plus the life of my battery went down to four percent to 93% in a month in a half so I’d recommend using the regular charger if you want your battery life to last you a long time
JonnyTM it doesn’t matter ..battery health decreases as you use your phone
That's not true my 7 Plus is 3 years old and I'm using the 12w charger from starting, I've not opened the seal of 5w charger yet and my battery health is 85%!
My wireless chargers get my Xs too hot, and are really slow. I don't use them any more. They don't get as hot if I take the case off, but who wants to to that every time. I use the lightning cord now and don't have a problem with it getting hot.
the app doesn't seem to be legit..I had my 7 plus for almost year and it shows 3000/2900 for battery wear level..So the battery is still at 100% capacity...weird
Nah mate. Its over 100%
One thing you forgot to mention is myths on off brand lightning cables. Is it safe to use other brands of lightning cables to charge an iPhone?
Excellent video!
+Emery McClendon II thank you
What's your tip for keeping battery capacity high on jail broken iphones?
when i was using my 4s while charging it would get incredibly hot, i couldn’t even touch the metal frame for long before it started to cause pain
That's a much older phone though
*Fantastic vid, great info and just an overall great to know facts!*
My 6s is a year and a half year old and battery capacity went down to 76% lol
11 months and 82%
i add smart battery case so helpful
weird. i swear mine was dying too fast. I used the app and my iphone 6 has dropped to 93% only.. I've had issues since i upgraded it to iOS11 though
I think it's because I'm Jailbroken and downloaded too many things than I should have
Same but I have 90% after 2 years approx. I think charging habits affect it
Great info on battery life. Happy Thanksgiving
My iPhone 7 Plus which i had for a year is at 97% is that good?
Same here bro.almost an year old 7+ and 97% battery health.! 👍
My 6s is at 87% after a year.. and i wanna punch you in the face for saying that.
Stefan Mollov
My iPhone SE is 88% after two years ((I got it used in February)) i think that’s pretty good. Your comment made me laugh out loud, by the way. 😂
Awesome and very helpful vid. Thank you!
What about charging and using the phone at the same time? some say it is bad for the battery?
It’s fine and makes no difference
zollotech how makes no difference? Using your phone while charging generates more heat which means battery wear.
Binda mites lol I’m using it right now charging while using
George Baglaridis it’s actually better to use the phone while plugged in as much as possible because the source of power is coming straight from the outlet, not the battery. as of the heat concern, just don’t play intensive games and edit videos on your phone while charging
Thanks! If I had a dime for every time I had to explain charging myths, I'd be ... well, at least a few bucks richer.
Thank you for presenting this. I won't have to explain anymore, I'll just point them to this vid! :)
+Michael Leers glad I could help.
How could you retain 96% of the battery life even after a year? I changed my iPhone 6s Plus battery in December 2018 but the battery capacity has reduced to 95%
I charge my phone once a day no matter the battery is fully drained and unplug the charger as soon as the battery reaches 100%
Your comments please. Thanks!
What about charging with a non-Apple lightning cord?
John Kay the phone will say accessory not supported
John Kay what
Thank you so much for this video! Recently got my iPhone 7+ and I usually drain the battery till 10% then charge to 100% now I could charge anytime worry free thank you so much again Aaron;)
Best battery tip - put the phone in the microwave at 50% for exactly 4 seconds to prime it. You get 20% more charge free!
never put your phone in the microwave

This also applies to the iPads and the iPad Pros, right? I know about it but I just want to make sure.
*Who else is Facing less battery backup problem after upgrading to iOS 11??*
🤔
*But i am* ☹️
I got almost the same battery usage on 11.1.2 and 10.3.3. 8h~9h on screen on Iphone 7
1. try to reset it via only iPhone preferences
if there is not change:
2. make a backup ok your mac/pc and set it up as a new device (wipe before) and install your backup on the „new“ device
3. Give the iPhone a week or 2: the reason is that the device loads a lot of data after your update.
Hope it works
(I did all the 3 steps and it works now more fluent and the battery is a lot better)
Is it ok to use your phone while charging?
What's the app's name
The one you used for checking the battery life?

Okay so youre pretty much saying everyones battery is different. I had my iphone 8 plus for less than 4months and i only charge it when it has 15% and never let it charge over night or touch 100%. I take it off at 90-98%. the battery life for it is 96% what bullSht is that? I dont use the phone as my daily, just use it to play app games at home.
I changed my phone for 30 hours plus cuz I forgot to unplug it... not a issue at all
wtf
Yeah 30 hours....
What is the name of the app that you used in the video?
+Ethan LaHood Lirium info lite
zollotech Thanks👍🏻
It showed 107% battery level on my iPhone 7 LOL
Ryoneftw who asked?
Ryoneftw that's weird
I just got a new iPhone 11 and a 20W charger for it. So I should not worry about my battery health as long as my phone will not heat in the charging process?
does the same apply for the 8?
sure
C0}}}nnie yes
Gay
Yes it does, iphone 8 here and 104% battery life. Btw it doesnt matter at what percentage you charge it, what matters is the temperature of the phone when you charge it as well as operating temperature. For example if it is too hot while you are playing games, id rather stop the gams and wait for it to cool down. Apparently overheating/freezing temp is the only major cause for battery wearing out. Id also suggest not charging while playing as it builds up more heat on the battery.
It applies for any modern rechargeable batteries (Lithium-Ion)
Is it safe to charge iPhone 6s with 12w iPad charger ???
Yes
how about charging iphones while using it?
Patrick John Carlo Valerio myth
Don't play any intensive games or edit videos, your phone will be fine.
+Brondo Hello just keep using it
Your phone is running applications even when you’re not using it. The only danger to using it while charging is messing up your cable/charging port from jerking the cable.
zollotech so just keep using it even if it gets hot while charging?
Myth #1: The iPhone charges faster than android
Myth #2: There is an affordable fast charger
My battery health on the 7 is 102% after two months of use. Sounds great but the battery on this is just shit. I’ll upgrade to the 8 plus.
Ivan Markovic mine is 104 on 8 plus where it says it has 2800 mah battery actually, hm....
Ivan Markovic 8 plus ti je super.Kupio sam ga prosli prosli vikend i super je!
hI Aaron how good and how precisely the lithium lirium app is ?? its correct about the battery life displayed ? thanks your the best, i have turned on notifications about your videos ! ur nr1
I got 2% battery wear after 2 charges on iPad and only had it 2 weeks
Darren M stop letting you battery die. Just like with the iPhone, charge it at night even if it's not low.
This video has been very helpful for me, expecially with that last myth. Thank you very much!
So using the fast charging in the new phones is perfectly fine?
+TRay87 yes
zollotech you’re the man Aaron
The "don't charge it during the day" myth probably stems from the Lightning port. Although the battery will be fine, remember that you only have so many cycles (number of times you've plugged it in and unlplugged it) before it will stop working. If you use wireless charging, you should be fine.
Just got ip8+ & iPad
Up graded from 5c cuz I live in a rural area & stores are 10m away
Bought the car Charger and nothing.
The 88% is literally just saying it can reach 88% of it’s original maximum capacity.
qwertylerqw3
It’s not brand new, as I said, I got it used from a family member. They had it for two years, & I just brought it off them last month, for $100. The capacity now says, 87%, I hope that’s not too bad. I need this phone to last me at least two years. Thanks for the reply by the way.
Brandon Lee
Oh my gosh, I completely didn’t see “used,” sorry about that!
After 2 years 88% definitely isn’t bad and will be good for a while
actually this vid feels like an ad for that app more likely but thanks anyway.. though for the battery thing i ve learnt from iphone battery's that.. if you use the phone like 4 years and that battery life drops below %80 and you get a new battery you may confront some mainboard issues.. so it ll be better change the battery right after 3 years if you need or want to use the same iphone..
It’s not though. Prior to Apple actually putting battery health in the phone, this is all I could find. While your statement is true for longevity, I don’t know a single person who keeps their phone over 2 years so why not just ignore it and plug it in and enjoy the phone.
Thanks for clearing that up for me
Wow great video great info. Downloaded this app and it is great! Thank you.
Thanks for your great video! Maybe stupid question, I've got the iPhone 8. Does having the phone with Bluetooth on use much more power or not, battery wise?
keith plunkett Bluetooth in general is very low power. However, if you don't have anything connected to it such as headphones or an Apple Watch then you might as well turn it off.
im charging my iphone 7 using the 12 watts adapter is that fine? nothing bad will happen to the battery?
Think I should remove otter box symmetry case when I charge it up overnight?
Thanks Zach
I know this is old... but no, you don’t have to do that.
Whenever the phone gets to 100% it stops charging, so it will not continue to be hot the whole night. It’s equivalent to charging it normally
Thanks you for this video. Great info and much needed.
Smartphones are built to prevent their batteries from being overloaded. If you leave your phone to charge overnight, it will reach 100% capacity then stop, although it will continue to top up the battery every time it falls to 99%. This can shorten the battery’s lifespan somewhat.
wow thanks a lot truly learned a lot from this Video.
totally Subscribed.
does pulling your iphone on and off the wireless charger consistently ruin battery life?
Awesome 👍
Thought I had battery mode on.Glad you made me check as doing that speeds up a lot. Now to turn it of. Thank you.!’
Does using an iPad charger really make charging faster? I think I read that the iPhone has a limit of how much power can be used to charge them.
Yea, I agree with the overnight myth. When it’s at 100% it stops the charging of the battery.
I just charge it when I don’t use my phone or when it’s dead
