One of the things I love about Derek's driving sequences is that he obviously knows that you're supposed to spend as little time as possible in the passing lane.

Reminds me of my road trip to Colorado with our 1962 Chevrolet in the mid 70's. Never shut her down from Wisconsin to Colorado because the starter was shot!
Brought back bad memories of driving through a tropical storm in my 82 with the random windshield wiper mode and leaking t-tops. Then that winter getting caught between Dallas and Little Rock in an ice storm. Fun times. C-3s make such great all weather cars.

All the very best to you, Jessica and the family and a million subs has to be just round the corner - keep it going! From the emerald isle...
Always check your lugs on aluminum rims after putting them on and driving a short distance and it's a good idea to check them regularly. They are notorious for coming loose and it doesn't matter if you have 4 5 6 or 8 lugnuts. I found that out i guess the easy way when driving a 3/4 ton truck with side racks and a load of mulch taller than the cab when luckily I felt one weird sway coming out of a corner and started slowly down. At around forty my driver side back tire passed me and somehow didn't hurt the bed of the truck. Had one heck of a flat spot on my brake drum though.
I'm a simple guy: don't need a night on the town or one too many cold snacks on a Friday night. Give me Derek and one of his car adventures, and that'll do a guy juuuussst fine.
It's the only time I've seen 23 Mile exit, in my backyard, on a youtube channel. Everyone was so busy 3 years ago. I didn't see this episode until today. Hopefully, my small town was an enjoyable quick visit. Now that firebird location episode clicks. Gonna rewatch.

You can do anything and you live in a world full of Hall Monitors that can do nothing. In my experience, we live in a world managed by people that can do nothing. I put myself through college and graduate school doing chores for people that can do nothing. Remember, we only allow them to manage things because we could not care less, about anything, than whatever they are crying about today. While they are distracted, we pay attention to important things. Do that, and you will win,
@@CJrun so true! (me an engineer who quits the carrier b/c I've been surrounded by smart asses but they don't have any clue. I got sick of rescuing every project. I'm currently doing my truck license (like CDL in the US but for Europe). Wanna do serious work with real outcome, I'm sick of senseless "company policies and politics".
I'd subscribe to your comment 100% !!!
I drove my ‘78 corvette back to college on unplowed roads in winter 1986. Your vid took me back there. Thx!
What that means on Craigslist is its now fully rebuilt but I lost the receipts dang it lmfao love it 🤣🤣😂🤭 @15:12 @ViceGripGarage
thought duct tape was another channel,
And I don't recall which shop did the rebuild....
Man when you lifted the corner on that cover my heart dropped! Can’t wait!!
It’s a firebird
@@lilsolo68 looked to be a 68 Firebird.
yeah this has been a long week :-)
Never stop doing roadtrips and revivals.....simple the best....also the episode you scored the music tape collection from the thrift store, bloody awesome.
Thanks Simmons
Just found your channel and I must say I think I'm hooked, loved your '68 Buick find and just watching you diagnose and repairing abandoned cars is a lot of fun, its like opening those 'mystery bag' toys for petrol heads
What a FANTASTIC way to finish my Friday!! I can think of several cars I wouldn’t mind driving 700 miles during winter. A corvette isn’t one of them. I’m so proud to be a member!!!
I love how you're involving your little ones! You're a great dad keep it up.
I drove 750 miles across from Germany to the UK a few months ago. Started in a blizzard, went through flooding in France. I was in a car with a working heater, so I was doing it in luxury.
Good job, Derek.
Working on my Escalade while listening to him do his thing.... is the best thing ever!!!!!! He kept me motivated to get my work done and now I'm back on the road!!!!!
The duct tape... oh my god. I'm absolutely dying. As a Canadian this is such a Red Green moment. I love it.
The long distance drives in sketchy cars are my favorites. It is really why I keep coming back.
Agreed
“That sucks really bad” I know it’s not funny but I had to rewatch that part about 5 times.
One of the things I love about Derek's driving sequences is that he obviously knows that you're supposed to spend as little time as possible in the passing lane.
I really have to thank the t-top weather strip for giving up his life and providing us the duct tape incident! Damn, I haven't laughed that hard for a bit! Thanks D!
I thought it was the blower motor! Had some GM stuff where it would sound like that even with the switch off.
@@erikalbertson7483 thats what i thought too
His facial expressions were pure gold. I guess a guy can get perturbed.
I lost it. Anyone who has had a car make that sort of noise was right there with him.
Awsome, just finished watching the race, you got robbed, seriously, great job Derek can only imagine if you wouldn't have gotten taken out
Jeez, spoiler alert
This car in the burnout contest is one of my favorite videos!
LOVE these road trips! Between Derek being hilarious and the car's always having some kind of issues it's always entertaining. This one with the duct tape, storm, and loose lug nuts is about as funny as old Cadillac drive a couple years ago. 😂😂 On and Is that a Firebird I see for the drive home? 😍😍
If a feller recalls correctly, you done found the car you've been wanting to find for years. Congrats!
I like how you waited after the freedom 500 is over to post! I needed this content this evening. Keep it coming, I love your content.
“Not quite sure if u can hear it “ hahahahah had me in tears
His different faces was absolutely hilarious 😂😂😂
@@fordgreg302 😂😂😂😂 dude as soon as that noise came his face I couldn’t hold it in hahaha
I about blew coffee out my nose when I saw that part🤣
I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. 🤣🤣
Derek is the real hero, from leading some of the greatest drivers in the world, to uploading a new video in the same night!
A guy hears "Eastbound and down", then he gets Jerry Reed stuck in his head for about 3.2 hours.
Hahaha IKR. Dammit! Gotta go watch Convoy, Cannonball Run, or sumthin. 🤣
@@wtbeecher Smokey and the Bandit works too...
Now I got the Convoy theme stuck in my head... Connnnvoyyy...
Gator Mcklusky comes to mind, maybe Amose Moses I don’t know.
Well he is going to return home in a Firebird so we're getting closer
:-) :-) :-) :-)
Thanks for the good report on the Q-jet. They're decent carbs if you don't screw too much with them. LOTS of good info in this one!
The eagles were flying right along side a guy tonight! Well done sir!
Been watching for the last few years and have enjoyed every minute - Derek you were made for this - I hear VGG being referenced in other channels that I watch and you realise that your peers are even enjoying your content. All the very best to you, Jessica and the family and a million subs has to be just round the corner - keep it going! From the emerald isle...
Super excited for the next video. Thank you for all the time and effort Derek, it is very appreciated.
Amen.
Definitely simple
@@Phil-1969 yup. Enjoy the tea, limey!
Derek that was so worth the drive! Can’t wait to see the fire chicken in action ! Cheers Vespa Squash!
Mighty nice of you to warm those little guys up with the old Burnsomatic. :)
As they say; "If you build a man a fire, he's warm for one night, but if you set a man on fire, he's warm for the rest of his life."
Great driving at the 500, Derek! I was on the edge of my seat!
OMG ! I dang near spit my coffee out when The duct tape noise started! One of your best videos yet! It's been hours since I saw it and I can't help but laugh every time I think about it!
I love the paint scheme that was executed perfectly on your Freedom 500 1776 Olde Glory Tank..I was rooting for ya brother!! You came out swinging. I Hope you're having a blast in Florida. Take care bud.
Brilliant! Loved every single second of this vidya, jees I love this guy and his approach to life. Thank you Derek for uploading and all the hard work videoing, editing, etc. Really loved the music selection too, it fitted beautifully with the passing scenery. Hell I'd watch Derek drive from North to South, from East to West, from coast to coast, from pole to pole!
Thanks for getting us a video out even though you are busy. Nothing like closing out Good Friday with some VGG.
Good luck with Independence tomorrow!
Another crackin' video, Derek. Great fun - and awesome music. Nice to know there are still people out there listening to good ol' rock'n'roll.
That is a real pretty (1968?) bird at the end there, cant wait for the episode
I'm thinking 69
@@joefish1439 definitely not a 69, 69 looks completely different, it's either a 67 or a 68, I'd have to see if it has smoker windows or not to tell if it's a 68 or not.
Look under the grill you can tell it's a 68
'67
68 would have bird shaped, side marker lights, and 67 nope. But either way I would have done the trade sight un see in a heartbeat. Love the early fire chickens
A guy is really takin' a shine to this channel. A fella puts out some good stuff. Keep it up, and thanks, Derek!
FIREBIRD!
Oh man am I jazzed to see a guy workin on my favorite car.
I squealed a little when he moved the cover...😁😁😁 looks like a 67... i’m kinda stoked for that one too
my dad had one of those new, back in the day
I tip my hat if you can tell from that quick tease. I'm not very good at that sort of thing. But I was guessing GTO.
@@TheMotorick def a first Gen firebird
I had a 2001 Firebird, and I used to drive that thing on the highway after midnight at Go-Directly-To-Jail speeds. I'd love to have a 67-69 Firebird, or Camaro as a project car.
Nothin makes me feel more classy, than driving along looking out over an old corvette hood!!!
I took quite a few screen shots just because of that epic hood
This show would be great to try to get on foreign markets where people want to learn to speak english.
Suddenly tons of people learning english for the first time, and they end up learning it exactly like your choice of words are used, though with different accents, haha.
Well, I'm from Bulgaria and I've been watching VGG for a couple of years now, I guess, not sure, can't remmeber when I started. Though I've learnt English way before I even knew what youtube was.
OUTSTANDING IDEA!!!!!!!
Stripes...
A blue 1968 firebird with almost no interior, no door handles, no drivetrain, and a steel racing steering wheel was my child hood play car. I got heck every time I was caught playing in it. To this day it's my favorite muscle car...
Man, you're like the Bob Ross of Automobile youtube. Your videos are relaxing and your humor is on point.
I could watch Vice Grip Garage all day long!
A Guys sitting here in the motel having a few cold snacks, anxious to see independence leave a rod or two on the ground tomorrow
No rods! Rear end ...ok
yeah rear end will most likely give out before the motor or trans does
With no traction, the rearend might live. Lol
Whatever happens I want it to make the Cleetus and cars Indy lol. Make sure he doesn't send it to the big scrapyard in the sky!!!
Nah, canted valves and pushrods are built in rev limiter.
After fixing the headlamps you drove through the construction zone I worked on in Janesville WI.
Oh myyyyy when you lifted that cover 🤤 im so excited!!!!
I have that effect on women 😂🤣😂
The Phoenix rises! And a fitting Firebird. Nice work.
Looks like a pontiac bonneville
Whatever You say low key older bonnevilles are bad ass
@@jameshunt5316 oh yeah my dad bought a '69 four door that was one nice car he bought it out of a sort of salvage yard. Yellow with black interior. Run dam it would run.
