I feel bad for the other houses, they showed up partly in opposition to the emperor. Then a bunch of random shit pops off on the surface incredibly quickly and suddenly the emperor is deposed by some fremen kid who may or may not be Paul and they have to instantly swear absolute fealty to him after he threatens to nuke the spice.
He was far too scared of offending people which is bizarre considering it means struggle and that an inference of negativity reflects on the person assuming the word to be negative rather than the person using it.

In the end, the only Freymen left is Chani and all the other who followed Paul became Harkonens. Chani do not spill any water in the end despite her sorrow while others fly off to spill billions worth water with ruthless force
It is important to know that at this stage, Paul only knows the Jihad is inevitable. He is resigned to that fact only, it was only later that he realized that this is the first step to the Golden Path. Unlike Leto II who was born with millions of years of memory, Paul was only a young man in which half of his life was devoted to war, which made his indecision much more reasonable and his fall more tragic
random question from some casual watcher why does the fremen occasionally walk without the need to do the desert natural walk thingy? and in the final shot, what is stopping the worm from coming up from below and swallowing the thumper and her instead of charging horizontally at the thumper is there an explanation or is it just plot armor?
worms are very territorial and the fremen have learned where worm territory lies, so they'll only do the sand walk if they have to. as for your second question, i'm not sure there's a good answer to that, but a worm probably wants to get its food quickly, so it's much faster to go straight for the thumper rather than dive and come up. we know thumpers can be tuned, so perhaps different frequencies cause the worms to come in with different approaches
I really don't get why they chose to have the movie end this way for Chani. Literally the most poignant part of the story is when she and Jessica talk about how they may never be officially married to the men they love, history will call them wives. I don't mind a movie changing things for one reason or another, but given that Chani not only always agreed with Paul's choices, she bore his children and died to see them born, this ending is almost diametrically opposed to her character.
I'm not sure I like it, and I have no idea how it's supposed to play out in Messiah, but I get it. A lot of readers apparently didn't pick up on how dangerous Paul is when they read the first book. So the screenwriters wanted to give it extra emphasis by having a main character constantly point it out and oppose him. And they picked Chani because let's face it, letting a female lead follow her man so blindly just isn't kosher anymore.
@@kitsong But that's the point with Paul: NOBODY grasped the danger of following him so blindly; it wasn't until his son Leto II started Humanity down the Golden Path that they realized the last thing they should ever do is allow themselves to be controlled in totality by a single charismatic leader. Herbert's entire MO for writing the series was to, over time, make the reader realize this through example, because with notable exception, basically everyone just went along with Paul because he intentionally took advantage of long-seeded cultural imperatives. It's only in retrospect, or after a number of examples, that you understand. I'd use a contemporaneous example of an event that created unwitting forced compliance with a plan that ended up being harmful... but my comment would likely disappear, which ironically ALSO proves the point that blind obedience is the true threat of leadership.
@@LabTech41 I think a component of it is or more less that Denis and the whole cast and crew can't guarantee that they'll be able to turn this into a big/long enough film franchise (mainly from a financial/studio side of things), or that they all would even WANT to commit to adapting the entire Dune franchise, so after a certain point you have to start condensing themes and the message a bit if you want to convey to the audience what the overarching storyline of the Dune book series is. In the books, many Fremen were polygamous. This wasn't something Chani would've really had a problem with.
