Yes. That was the highest form of art, the greatest science fiction novels brought to life in the finest possible way. Villeneuve has paid Herbert his proper due. They are both geniuses in their own right.
Why? Since Paul is a Harroken... since he was supposed to be a girl & married to his cousin Feyd, then their son was who the Bene Gesserit intended to be the Kwistaz Haderach.
@@nationalsocialism3504but the harkonnens are animals, they act in their base instincts with no restraint, look at the Baron's gluttony or Rabban and Feyd Rautha's constant executions. Then I read Dune and Messiah in 3 Days and rewatched the movies …Part Two two times in Cinema and hell… what is going on. I feel like a child, who has seen colours for the first time and now it’s part of my life. Last time this happened was LotR. Sometimes things do this to you. I love how you contrasted the arrival of Atreides on Arrakis with Paul putting his hand in the box. The box is a metaphor for Arrakis and there was only pain in it for the Atreides. The Reverend Mother said that an animal caught in a trap will gnaw off its own leg to escape. Paul Atreides was the animal caught in a trap and he gnawed off his own leg (lost his soul to a terrible purpose) to escape that trap.
But didn't Paul resist and pass the test ? He didn't remove his hand and proved he was more . He also chose Mua'dib , the desert mouse name to prove his worth
Him passing the test is more about how he exceeds the bene gesserits expectations. He is still very much in a painful trap which he cannot escape and in order to regain some control he actually does fall into the only way out he can manage (which is to cut off his “arm”) and lose himself to the power around him.
@@kartikeyatomar9847 And that came at a cost (the jihad). Paul passed the Gom Jabbar test but ultimately failed to walk on the golden path (which is literally Gom Jabbar on a macro scale). His son on the other hand....
I love the editing choice here when Liet-Kynes asks Paul learned the intricacies of the stillsuit, while including clips of him researching about the Fremen.
