That makes sense. Especially in R&B singing from the heart is important, so being reminded to be brutally honest is important. Honesty forges the connection.
Usher mentioned there was other story tellers also, he was talking about in the 80s like Slick Rick, Public Enemy, etc... Em was the first rapper i believe in the late 90s outside of Pac who put his ups and down on record
I was just gonna mention Pac's Me Against the World, which is my fav Pac album. Nobody in hip hop had ever spoken about their own insecurities, their own shortcomings, their own downfalls, their own paranoia like Pac did in that album. Then I heard The Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers Lp and remember thinking, last time I heard someone be this vulnerable in hip hop it was Pac in MATW album.
I used to write mad lyrics when i was in my early teens from like 2002 to a few years ago. Sometimes I still write down or text things that rhyme if something pops in my head. Every time I slowed down with writting shit or I stopped for a while, and Eminem dropped something new and i heard it, it always motivated me to start writting again.

You listen to confessions 1-2 and they’re both LEGITIMATE STORIES being sung to you. As if you were having a conversation with that person and they were spilling their heart out to you.
