If you were sent an iTunes backup file, would you know what to do with it? In this video, I'll walk you through how to copy an iTunes backup file to the appropriate directory on your Windows 10 PC, so you can then restore it onto your new iPhone or iPad.
This is ideal for data recovery customers who want to "clone" their dead device onto their new device, with all their pictures, videos, contacts, texts, notes, etc.
The process is the same whether you received the iTunes backup file on a USB thumb drive or sent via Google Drive download link.
Confirm which iTunes version you have. Then place it in the correct directory:
Under Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 iTunes will store backups in %appdata%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.
The Microsoft Store version of iTunes stores its backups in \Users\[USERNAME]\Apple\MobileSync\Backup.
Then iTunes will detect the backup file and you'll be able to Restore from that backup.
Should I make this tutorial for Mac? Let me know in the comments below!
💻Where is the iTunes backup folder on macOS / OS X?
iTunes backups are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync on macOS.
That folder is typically at /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.
In macOS 10.15, Finder creates iPhone backups, instead of iTunes. However, these backups are stored in the same location.
🚨🚨Please note, the new device you'll be restoring the backup file onto, WILL BE WIPED & all existing data will be erased & overwritten with the data from the backup file. 🚨🚨

Hi Jesse, one thing to know, you must have enough space when you do the restore, because when you restore the iTunes will duplicate the files, let’s say it’s the backup is 90 giga It will duplicate the same amount of space. It’s you don’t have enough space I will give you an error.
