I have been waiting for your reaction to this-and I will say some of us tried to prepare you for what was ahead. I loved how into this you were and by all means feel free to cry a little. I know I do every time I listen to this. I'm not even sure at this point as referring to Jacob as a once in a lifetime talent really covers point of how amazing he is. I've seen that video with Herbie you mentioned and it's pretty stunning. I once heard Herbie say of Jacob, "I used to think that I was pretty good with harmonies and then I met Jacob." That's pretty cool coming from a music legend. You did a great job with this reaction and I was with you every step of the way. It may be time for you to try out one of Jacob's more "popish" creations (for lack of a better genre). Consider reacting to *"All I Need"* It is a true delight. ruclips.net/video/ue6g7SPSyAM/видео.html

Enjoyed your reaction. To me, this is the most amazing cover of any song I've ever heard from a human being. I will listen to this for the rest of my life because not only is it musically astounding but it gives me mental and emotional stimulations I've never gotten from any other piece of music. The closest anything has come to it are a few classical pieces and a few Stevie Wonder songs. Very happy to see anyone connect with this song like you did and when a musician like you reacts to it, it can be a great thing to experience the song with again.

A couple of things which might make you even happier. The second voice is his Mum, and the next two his sisters. Also, IIRC, the last note is one of his sisters. The opening "Moon" are artists and musicians Jacob knows. He asked for those people to sing "Moon" (IIRC recorded into their phone with video), and send it to him. Jacob has unusually refined 'Perfect Pitch', so he built harmonies and chords from them.
I haven't seen all of your Jacob Collier reactions, so you likely know this... However, for 'passers by', Jacob does not use pitch correction on his voice. I've read he does sometimes record his voice then play back at half speed to go an octave lower, but he sang 'exactly' the note so 'half speed' 'just works'.
Jacob made a video explaining how he created it _LOGIC SESSION BREAKDOWN: "Moon River"_ ruclips.net/video/9d4-URyWEJQ/видео.html He shares his thinking and understanding for everyone to benefit. The final result was constructed from about 5,000 sound files.
That's way beyond the limit of Apple's LOGIC. So Jacob had to 'mix down' many sound files to one. Apparently Apple learned of Jacob's "Moon River" and released an upgrade to support many, many more files.
Anyway, it's a pleasure to see someone connect to Jacob Collier's music and react.
    Best Wishes. ☮
'Jacob has said when he's in good health, he can identify (and reproduce) to 5¢ of a semitone (for non-musicians, that is like having 18 extra keys between *every* key on a piano).

There is a great video that goes into some deep analysis of Jacob's version of this song. He is using microtonality and alternative tuning and flying through keys and you don't even notice it. He goes from A=440Hz to A=432Hz and I didn't even notice until it was pointed out. Definitely worth a watch if not a reaction.

Great reaction as always. After about your 5th or 6th listen, you’ll start to memorize the song and expect the amazing changes that hit you out of nowhere on the first few tries. It’s just shear genius. Thanks for the video. You da man.

The song is an endless parade of introducing concepts and never going any where with those concepts which creates an endless sense of build up which goes nowhere all while sounding pretty by default simply because it is harmonious. A song that conveys build up and never releases is boring. Jacob Collier never said that was his intent in his hour long break down of the cover.
To give perspective, if after the 8 or 9 minute build up, it released as in kicked in to gear then it would be a great ride.
When the artist himself is unaware of how his song sounds then it is a failure.

@@isheetfromaswhole3657 It’s amazing how so many of us end up in tears during this masterpiece, but I understand that some very complex compositions don’t connect with everyone, while others do. Music is probably the MOST subjective of all the arts, hence, not everybody loves everything, including me, but the musical bliss brought to the ears of Jacob’s fans is like no other. God Bless your other music listening endeavors, whatever they may be. 🙂

@@videditorEB1 complex? Music that constantly builds is a universally understood concept by people who go by what they hear. Music that constantly adds new concepts with out doing anything with them is also understood universally. Jacob Collier never explained that to be his purpose. My observations are very objective. The song never goes beyond what is typically an introduction- it tends to be undefined and hints at the melody and adds ideas that will be fully explored later.
Jacob Collier created an introduction that goes nowhere.
Anybody can recognize introduction notes just as anybody can recognize ending notes. Anybody can recognize build up notes. His cover has all the hallmarks of intro- concepts and build-up, all going nowhere which is, objectively, frustrating.
People are so caught up on what's happening on paper that they forget to go by what they hear. Let alone his genius that I don't deny.
If the song had , what I'll call, a second movement that "takes off" or "kicks into gear", then it would be great. I would love to point this problem out to Jacob Collier but he is surrounded by "yes men".
In fact, in one of his logic sessions(?) He claims to have over 100 friends. Nobody has 100 friends. It is a sad misuse of the word Friends. Argue it all you want but when an artist is surrounded by "yes men" it is fully recognized as a problem.
In conclusion, what I offer is a willingness to challenge with solid explanation.

@@isheetfromaswhole3657 there’s not one substantive statement in that whole mess brother. And, it’s COMPLETELY subjective. 100% opinion based on your own personal preferences. How is THAT objective?? The song resolves many times. Some subtle, some not, like the ending (which you don’t seem to think the song has) which lands like a tidal wave of sonic awesomeness. Whatever. I imagine you’re not much of a Steely Dan fan either. More complex compositions that totally confuse you. There’s no shame in that, like I said, all music is subjective. Everybody has preferences. Even you.

A lot of American Gospel music sounds like this. You should check it out. Here are four artists I'd suggest:
      1. Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir
      2. Richard Smallwood
      3. The Walls Group (start with their early stuff)
      4. Take 6 (if you want something contemporary; once again, start with their early stuff like their self-titled album)
Hope this helps! God bless! ❤
