The sad thing for me is that if I love a game I know that I will never ever forget it as when I enjoy a game I want to explore It’s mechanics and learn it’s little details I want to know it in and out and my learning about that game and discovering those inner working is what I find the most fun in. So when I really love a game I know I wont forget it.
Im a ghost in the shell fan. Every 3-4 Years i do a marathon and watch the whole series in one session like 3-4 days. Everytime i rewatch it the nostalgia kicks in hard. It does work.

I made studying Calculus into a fun activity by playing video games while listening to lectures and RUclips videos. When it came to doing HW I played video game sound tracks so I didn’t feel like I was doing hw but rather a boss battle or level clearing. In Calc 1, 2, 3 and differential equations I got A, A, B, and B respectively. I don’t recommend it for everyone but it’s the way I did it and succeeded

4:41 that seems like a case by case problem, I'm constantly listening to my fav songs and I still hold all the same feelings I've had when first listening to them, same with shows and movies. Also playing a game as fast as possible just to try and forget it later seems like it would suck all the fun out of playing it in the first place.

Nier replicant and nier automata dude, one of the best crafted stories for a franchise… I would KILL to relive that again

Man, whether it is for the story or gameplay there's a lot of games that I wish I could play for the first time again.

this actually kind of happened for me with what used to be my favorite show ben 10, I revisited the show recently after not indulging in it since I was like 13. Its honestly been super interesting watching it seeing stuff I remembered vs what I forgot. Seeing what parts I remember fondly as a kid (like whenever an ultimate transformation was used) that watching again feels lack luster, and even stuff that went completely over my head as a kid (like the episodes about Guantanamo bay and abusive relationships). While watching ben 10 again is fun I feel like avoiding my new favorite show for 10 years so I can watch it again like this isnt really worth it.

Flats, you have to play Outer Wilds. I have a deep love for only a handful of games I've ever played, but Outer Wilds stands out well beyond them. It is THE game I wish I could experience again.
I found out there is a very stable VR mod for Outer Wilds after I had already finished it and genuinely felt sad. It may or may not be the way to experience it depending on preference, but what I would give to fully explore that world in VR...
I thought for sure flats was gonna flick off the photographic memory guy 😂

Flats will probably not read this (but it's what I would want to let anyone else know), but I highly recommend to play Outer Wilds. If you do plan on playing it, do note that chat would need to be highly moderated for the time being, or put into emote only mode or just never reading it. Because Outer Wilds is highly sensitive to spoilers with the game being about learning, and someone spoiling you would actually remove part of the game for you. (which is also why you can't really replay it, because you can't re-learn the game).
Funfact... if you know what you are doing... hypnosis can very much temporarly completely forget games so you actually somewhat CAN relive stuff like it is your first time...

I was about 10 when mk11 came out (I am 16 now) but I remember trying to beat kronika on a Nintendo switch with joycons. It took 1 week when I had time. I took it in the car and got up early to secure my spot on the switch. I wish I could experience the difficulty because that got me into 2d fighters. Also my parents loved mortal Kombat when they were kids. They were surprised how realistic it looked and they could grab my face as terminator and still get spammed by Raiden and sub zero. It was a magical Christmas and a fond memory
We hollow knight would be the best experience to watch flats play

Brain Damage.... the simplest way. You can slightly get the experience with watching someone first play through. It's not exact, but you can see someone else's view on discovery and wonder.
Man, what I wouldn't do to see what these memory studies would be like with Autism. I feel like I'm the inverse somehow, if something gets repeated to me many times, I file it away as junk data.

Honestly, I kind of philosophically disagree with this idea of trying to preserve an experience like this. If you really enjoy a piece of art, you should enjoy it as much as you want to. Talk about it, show your appreciation, share it, remember it. Maybe you get tired of a song for a while, but naturally you'll come back to it one day and replay it on loop again a couple years later.
I feel that's a lot more genuine than trying to fabricate a scenario where you can experience this emotion that you will never fully experience again. You won't ever be able to entirely forget a game, song, show, and you will never feel like you did experiencing them for the first time. That's why I say you should enjoy as much as you can in the present. If time brings you back to it, you can enjoy whatever it is in a new light rather than chasing shadows of something you'll never quite get back.

This happens to me with shows I go back to rewatch. I forget details of a show and how things played out. Like oh yeah they barely scraped by that situation. And then seeing they had it in the bag the next time I watched it
Final Fantasy 14 and Mass Effect for game and Naruto for shows would be my choice to re-experience again.
