This short is about a divorcee mom paralyzed by her alcoholism at a time her troubled teen daughter needs her. The masked monster at 1:30 is the monkey on mom’s back at the moment she first thinks about drinking after a stressful phone cancellation. The daughter’s reaction triggers mom further, who does end up hitting the bottle and is unable to give comfort (bottle down throat). The scream is the daughter’s inner pain as she realizes she is truly alone. 3:50 “Are you alone?”
The surface plot is secondary to this metaphor but here’s my take: A masked killer enters the house and writes a horrible message. Mother and daughter each believe the other wrote the message, but are unable to confront each other. Their avoidance is tragic, since they would have saved themselves had they just communicated. The killer can’t be the dad because dad was on the phone with mom as the killer walked in the house (during the phone conversation). The killer can’t be a random person because they would not have known to write “Daddy hates you”. This logic gap seems intentional and invites us to look elsewhere. The killer is alcohol and is the “You” in the title.
It's possible though I'm not sure I agree. I don't know if the film was quite that clever or layered, though there were certainly some of the elements you mentioned present. I think the name could come from the fact it's all taken in one long shot and perhaps a bit of a lost in translation thrown in.

@@jamiemc2313 I felt that Joshua's analysis was spot on and the fact that Screamfest gave him such a favorable comment, I would say he was correct. The name of movie could very well come from the fact that alcohol addiction never leaves you. It follows you wherever you go, whatever you do. It's always watching you to encourage you to take that next drink. People here have assumed that the bottle in the mother's mouth was literal. I took it as meaning that she fell to her addiction, got drunk and forgot she was cooking dinner. The daughter found her wasted and tried to escape her fear of being alone and then had to look it in the eye and face it. I love all of these shorts on RUclips. They are great little films that sometimes tell better stories than the full length features.

RuneTraverse Same! I'm Lebanese, my parents would have hit me with the belt if I disrespected them like that. That's why I was always a well behaved kid, too scared to misbehave and get belted.
Not sure if you're from Germany or not, but many kids here behave that way not just towards their parents but towards teachers, elders, strangers. Not saying that there arent some with respect, but generally you'll find a "But my rights say this and that" mentality in the newer generations. Which is quite ironic because our older generations actually have no clue about their rights while the younger ones believe they have more than they actually do.
I thought it showed a history of ‘poor ‘ parenting because of drinking .
I like this kind movies, more than themes about devils, ghosts... humans put me on fear, more than tales.

I taught the mother should have run directly to get her daughter when she saw the writing on the bathroom mirror, aka some is in my fucking house! Maybe they just hated eachother doesn't look like a good relationship does it? Hehe
Mom was pretty much dead at that point. Better to try to save herself and get help.

the longest single shot movie on record is the 96 minute "Russian Ark" (2002). filmed entirely on location at the Winter Palace of the Russian State Hermitage Museum its a very interesting look at Russian history and a must see for film buffs.
The mother is not dead. The daughter simply visualizes her in that way because she is dead for her. Lisa thinks the alcohol is killing her and that's why she sees the bottle in her mouth and prefers to walk away rather than help her. Lisa couldn't change her clothes downstairs because her black clothes closet can be seen in the last scene in the sleeping room. When she passes her mother's side, she always passes in black clothing, symbolizing mourning. The message in the mirror is just a wake up call for the lack of communication. And the man masked in the dark is the symbol that represents the place where the mother is: always in the dark and covering herself with a mask (alcohol).
She asks for Lisa from the back door, but Lisa enters from the front, which means that the pair are not in harmony. The final scream is a sign of despair and frustration. Interesting message among divorced parents, that many leave their children synthetically. Well, the mother initially talks to the father, but the father is also unable to tell his daughter that he will not see her on the weekend.
Great camera work, the director must be very happy with his camera man...great work with revealing things during the movie and really great work with tension....AND....This is probably the cutest girl I have ever seen :)

Not my usual cup of tea, but the use of light and shadow in this was superb. And the tension building simply by changing things out of sight (the doors, etc.) was so good.
This is a fantastic, horror short! The setting, inside the large home, with that beautiful staircase, lots of places, and dark corners, a killer, could conceal themselves, the spaciousness, of the House, the MOTHER, becoming aware, of an intruder in the home, and the bratty daughter, finally realizing the dawning realization of trepidation, in the house. And the shocking way, the killer murdered the MOTHER, with the wine bottle. Superb video. It detailed, just the exact right amount of suspense and horror. I, really enjoyed this video. That house was Gorgeous, by the way. Loved the staircase.
Very suspenseful and creative but of story telling. We didn't get enough of the killer to guess if he was human or some minion of evil-- demon, ghost, or whatever. The music fit right in, and l.p.s slightly gurgly breath through the neck of the wine bottle was a great touch to an already gruesome over the top murder method--- that's what has me leaning towards demonic or truley evil entity-- a run of the mill Killer couldn't pull that off. That was good work. (I mean by the filmmakers not the murderer)

So your'e in a house that has a potential murderer. What do you do? Of course if someone has broken in your house, he has a weapon. Nobody breaks in one's house with just the intention of saying "hi". Of course he wants to harm you! What do you do? You certainly don't roam around and give him an opportunity to insert a bottle in your throat :/ You lock yourself in a closed space which possibly has no hiding spaces and just one door and then you call the police. OMG why are people inviting death in horror movies!

One of the most interesting death scenes I've seen since that one movie (although I can't think of the name at the moment) where the Grandmother swallows a German Shepard! Gorgeous house, loved that staircase!!!

I am glad about the kid. Thats what she gets. If she would have stayed with her mother, closed and locked the door and tried to help her then perhaps the ending would have been different. The house was gorg!!
Fantastic cinematography! And full pressure suspense turns into traumatic horror. Excellent pacing - so much tension. sheesh. Great performances (scream!). Hint of Funny Games? Truly fine filmmaking. Toll!

Some things just didn't add up
Seto Freakin Kaiba Yes. The mother after knowing tgere was a creep in the house who wrote obscene things in the bathroom, calmly poured herself a glass of wine when she came down to the kitchen 2. The daughter dropped her phone in her hands after seeing her bloody mom and ran back upstairs. I mean come on! This is stretching it a little too far

I was just thinking that the writing on the mirror should have been a clue, or an indication that someone was there and already in the house but instead of looking for her cell phone, or a weapon just in case she had to defend herself, she immediately blamed her Mom for doing it thinking she was drunk. I bet she felt really bad about treating her Mom that way when she found her on the floor with the wine bottle crammed down her throat.
But I still wonder what she had hoped to accomplish by running around and locking all the doors when the psycho was already INSIDE the house? Regardless of the whys, and why nots, it was still a great film and you all did an incredible job making it!

Not your best. Bad plot line and loosely held together. Seemed very loooong
it had no established direction as to what is happening. its leaving too much unknown thus rendering it proper boredom. we have no back story. Gets points for cinematography and acting perhaps..but the script is a mess.
The best thing to do in a situation like this, is to get drunk.
Incredibly long winding staircases are beautiful--except in the cases where you are playing a cat and mouse game with a homicidal maniac. In situations like that, a smaller home with a quick accessible exit is best. 😋

The more of these Short Horror Films I watch the more I realize most of them have the exact same pattern. Doesn´t mean any bad, just saying.
The biggest horror for me is that the teenage daughter didn’t even attempt to help her mother or call for help before running to her room. Such narcissistic behavior is all too common today.

The spoiled rich brat daddy's girl and the alcoholic mother that knows the father can't stand the daughter --- the father will be arrested for the murders --- because he was the monster with the keys and hated them both.
And the moral of the story is . . . The answer is never at the bottom of a bottle!!!

2. Why didn't she IMMEDIATELY notice the light off?
3. Fireplace lit, heard noises, KNOWS ish been messed with....why not call the police and y'all leave?
4. After you KNOW something wrong, WHY start drinking?

see what i mean they always end these shorts right when they're getting good, it's so messed up, i get sucked into them and then once they're about to show us the killer/monster, or whatever they end it right when it's about to be worth the watch and everyone's like oh wow that was such a good movie, well how the hell do you know that it's a good movie if you didn't even get the point/meaning of it, you don't know who the killer is, or monster, you don't know why she screamed like they just end these when they're going really well. BUT I STILL CAN'T STOP WATCHING THEM. i love them so much.
No all i see was her scream then DONE....i didn't see any killer.
The staircases were so high n steep, wondering how was she going to mop. There was a risk she will slip n fall down. Do consider high stairways when buying a house
