    Hi Stu, nice one about the underwear, yes I use paddock stands front and rear which I originally purchased for my track bike but now use permanently on my XJ600 after selling the afore mentioned, the XJ is permanently off the ground when I'm not using it which I think helps prevent deformation of the tyre while aiding cleaning, oiling and tyre pressure top ups, and is easier on my niggly back problems. The Conti GT looks fab but my flexible friend is doubled up currently, so won't be getting additions to the stable anytime soon, keep up the good work, cheers. 😊

    Have a paddock stand which has been in the family for years . I use it on my GT 650 without the need of bobbins as the olde family paddock stand ,beside notches, has cylindrical adjustable rubber coated rests that engage the swing arm just forward of the bobbin mounts. I slide a 2x4 under the side stand and chock the front wheel with another 2x4 and gently lift the rear of my GT 650 thusly . Maybe someday I'll invest in a pair of bobbins but for now all is well. Another fine video /work of art .

    Yea I have 2 rear paddock stands as well. The Interceptor couldn’t be used with one I already owned. The exhausts were too low, so got one that would work. Obviously don’t need to use it very often .

    Hi Stuart, I'm a product of the '60s when a 650cc Bonneville or a 883 Sportster were kings (or maybe the hard to find RE Interceptor MK1 & MK2) and I've owned many over the years. I love the way these Continentals look but figured I'm too old now for a cafe racer style bike. You have opened my eyes and have changed my way of thinking, now my biggest decision is whether to get the chrome tank version (to remind me of the '60s Interceptors) or the same paint as yours, my two favorite. I don't always comment but thanks for the great videos you do, I always look forward to them.

      I also use a roll in/off front wheel stand. I have it inside my 'Bike Barn'... obviously keeps bike in upright position and as you say far easier to locate and lift bike onto a paddock stand....I invested in a front wheel stand ... the type that locate under the lower yoke..

    Uncle Stu, please order some vinyl edge dressing for your stand. I have the Brass Frankenbobbins for my Mr. Clean, and noticed some gouges from the stand. I couldn't stand for that! The edge dressing sold on e-bay and amazon is cheap and will protect your bobbins. Not sure why stands don't sell these with the stand.

    Nahthen from Lincoln! Another great vid Stu, thank you! I've got a Triumph Bobber in my sights for my first post 125 bike, and I must admit the thought of using a paddock stand on my own terrifies me. Maybe if I can practice on a mates till I feel confident (with him present 😁) that might be a solution- but if I drop my brand new bike I've just paid £11,800 for I may need to search RUclips for a vid on the correct way to perform seppuku 🙄 Maybe till then, for chain lubrication, I'll just be pushing the bike down the road a foot at a time like the sales guy at the dealership recommends 🙄😣 Looking forwards to next week's offerings from you 👍

      @Trevor_Austin 3 года назад +1

      How about looking at this video: ruclips.net/video/AX_fEi2CjEQ/видео.html as well? Part of the secret is to have your bike more vertical before you make the lift. The slightly harder bit is lowering the bike as you’ll have to persuade it to “fall” onto the side-stand.

    Very good video, one of my pet hates is the absence of main stands on bikes with chains and my fear of of using a paddock stand so I have used a Roller Stand which can be used to spin the rear wheel for cleaning and for chan adjustment. Which paddock stand do you recommend and can be used safely on your own? Maybe include how to use in a future video. As they always say the only silly question is the one you never asked!

    Hello Stuart, After owning an H-D Iron 883 for the past ten years I'm only too aware of what it's like to have a bike without a centre stand. As you'll already know the Iron has a final drive belt, not a chain, so there's no lubrication But the belt does need the occasional adjustment. I don't own a paddock stand but I do have a bike lift that gets both wheels off the ground. I've installed rear axle nut covers on my Iron so there's really nowhere for me to for bobbins now, it's a case of form over function in my case. This is the first motorcycle I've owned that doesn't have a centre stand and it's the first with belt drive too. Apart from the occasional adjustments the belt is maintenance free and a belt can last up to one hundred thousand miles on a Sportster, that's a good bit more than even the best maintained chain.

    And just what are you supposed to do about flat tires out on the road? The Continental GT, with all it's technowhizbang computerized garbage, still uses early 1900s tire technology. A thin rubber tire with a thin rubber tube inside to hold air, just like the first Model T. And when a slightly sharp object in the road makes a hole in that thin rubber tire and tube, you are totally and completely stranded. There is no way to get a wheel off, and no way of replacing that tube if you can't get the wheel off. You might as well have a blown engine. Except that flat tires are about one million times more common than a blown engine. And when you have tube type tires and no centerstand, your only option is to call a tow truck, which is not an inexpensive proposition. BIG fail for Royal Enfield.

    • @stuartfillingham

    • @geraldscott4302
      @geraldscott4302 3 года назад

      @@stuartfillingham I've been riding on the street for 46 years, and have had over 30 flats. Far fewer with tubeless tires. I have found objects sticking in tubeless tires while inspecting the tires at home, and the tire when flat when I pulled them out. Whatever punctured the tire also sealed the puncture. Won't work that way with tube type tires. Tubes usually pop like a balloon when punctured, and even if they don't, whatever punctured the tire will wiggle around and cut up the tube before you can get stopped. I've been using Ride-On in tubeless tires for the past few years. Have not had a flat with a tubeless tire since I starter using it. I currently have 6 bikes, only 2 of them have tube type tires, my 2013 Royal Enfield Bullet, and my 2006 Kawasaki KLR650. Both have centerstands.
      Once I had 3 flats in under a mile. Several other vehicles were pulled over with flats as well. Turned out a box of roofing nails fell off the back of a truck.
      Maybe U.S. roads have more debris on them that cause flats. But even when I was a kid riding my 20" Schwinn Sting Ray, I had flat after flat. I got good at replacing tubes.

    • @frankmarkovcijr5459
      @frankmarkovcijr5459 3 года назад

      Cans of Fix-A-Flat are much better than what they used to be and when you have Geico motorcycle insurance for twenty bucks a year over full coverage you get unlimited road service up to 100 miles nobody's going to break down a flat tire and replace the tube nowadays

    • @geraldscott4302
      @geraldscott4302 3 года назад

      @@frankmarkovcijr5459 Oh I have a roadside assistance plan which was supposed to have 100 miles of towing. Did you read the fine print? Unfortunately I didn't. Turns out it is not 100 miles. It is 100 miles or the closest "place" they really don't explain what "place" actually means. I was out for a Sunday morning ride. I was less than 100 miles from home, so I thought I was safe. I was wrong. They took me to a motorcycle dealer about 30 miles away. They were closed on Sunday and Monday. So they took me to a motel about a mile up the road, and unloaded the bike. I checked into the motel (at my expense) walked down the road and got some fast food, and waited until Tuesday morning. I called the dealer, a few hours later they came and picked up me and the bike. They told me they might not be able to get to it that day. I lucked out on that one, they finished it up right before closing time. I had to pay to stay in the motel for 2 days, pay for fast food for 2 days, and pay the dealer to fix the tire. Almost $500, and missed 2 days work. And I was less than 100 miles from home. I checked into a few more of those plans, and they were the same way. A MAXIMUM of 100 miles, or the closest "place" Had I been on a bike with tubeless tires with Ride-On in them, I would have never had a flat in the first place. Even if you don't have anything in the tire, you can just plug the puncture, reinflate it, and be on your way. Several times while inspecting my tubeless tires at home, I found something sticking in them. I pulled it out, and the tire went flat. The same object that punctured the tire also sealed the puncture. Tubeless tires are about 20 times thicker than a tube, providing enough surface area for a good sealer or plug to work. But puncture a 1/16" thick tube, and only a patch or a new tube is going to fix it. F tube type tires. They've been outdated since the 1940s. Now you can get bikes with ABS and tube type tires. What the hell were they thinking? And do you want a tube to blow out at 80 mph on the freeway? I managed to survive that once, it will never happen again.

      @@geraldscott4302 with my Geico Road Service I get either taken to a motorcycle shop or I get taken home I have a collection of vintage bikes that sometimes break down on me in spite of everything I do and the drivers you know where I live you sound like you have AAA or something like that AAA left my chaplain stranded in my driveway because they brought him gas and counted it as a tow now he has Geico Insurance and he saved $600 on his truck insurance with road service on both Geico is a good company benwest have 16 years great customer service they pay better than most of the other services so the drivers tend to hurry up and get to the customer quicker my tire went flat on my side car and I put a can of Fix-A-Flat in it in the parking lot restaurant and it is still good today
