Step 1: Put it in your mouth Step 2: Chew and Swallow Step 3: Get fat Optional: Make the face of foodgasm This is awesome :P with all those awesome food out there
Awesome side note: the people at this Hoddeok stand gave us free Hoddeok the other day. They saw our video. YAY! Making videos about food we love, and then getting that food for free? DREAM COME TRUE!
i just watched this video this morning, then i forgot about it when i went to Bugaksan and Insadong today, but on my way home from Insadong I SPOTTED HODDEOK STANDS! And i had both!!! AND IT WAS DELICIOUS! Daaamn, it was fate.
Martina, I literally ALWAYS love your hair. Like, look at how perfect it is around your ears like it's not tight and pulled back.. it's perfect and UGH. SHOW ME YOUR WAYS ON OPENTHEHAPPY
Little did Martina know that her future self would not only NOT lose, but she would enjoy the creme brule donut. Hang in there past Martina, you will get your revenge.
I think this is one of the best shot/acted/filmed FAPFAP's in a while. It was fun, but still informative about the Korean food Simon and Martina were eating. Thanks for a great video! (and was safe to watch in my class.)
This is easy af to make. You just make a kind of fluffy pizza dough, then you stuff it like a bun and drop it into a generous amount of oil. Then you press it down while it's cooking to create a sort of pancake.
I’ve been waiting 11 years to try one and today I’ve found some at the local Korean market! Currently eating it and watching old EYK videos to reminisce
One of my favorite treats! I love making these at home with my kids, but nothing compares to getting it at one of the street vendors--it's perfection! :)
If anyone wants to try these, I believe they sell mixes to make these in Korean markets like H-Mart. There is a small possibility of it being in a Japanese market like Mitsuwa too but I doubt it (though they do sell a few Korean products)
When I was a kid in Korea, we had something very similar to those, just a pancake filled with brown sugar and chopped peanuts. I still make them in the winter time.
I saw this and I looked up the recipe and then made it. The counterfeit hoddeok we (my brother and I) made tastes amazing and our whole family is addicted now. I can only imagine how amazing the ones you're eating are. LOVED THE VIDEO BTW
try visiting a local korean grocery store, they now come in packages flour and sugar packaging with it.. just that you need to knead the dough and fry it
I really don't understand why Simon and Martina always act like they've been starved for days and always fight each other for food. can't they just buy more?!??!
hahha you guys always make me jealously hungry with your food adventure programs~ everything looks so delicious, and it's like i can smell the food all the way from here...
I bought a make your own mix of this. it was matcha flavored AND OMG, it was SOOOOOOO good. I burned the roof of my mouth cause I had just cooked it and it was too good to wait for it to cool down. > w
My mom's friend makes this thing similar to the ggul hoddeok but when he mixes the batter in a bowl he portions it so they're smaller than a hoddeok, he makes it with brown sugar and flour then fries it in oil, he calls them "sugar dumplings" though they look like hoddeok and they're really good! Sometimes it tastes like there's butter in it.
I totally had this when I was in Seoul in December! I didn't know what it was called, but my friend said we had to eat it in while in Myeondong. Soooooo gooood (we had the sweet one)! As soon as you said that it was only available in the winter, I was like "Is it?... YES!" yummmm
I loved it when I went to Korea! And I've realised that the actually sell the mix for making it at home! They sell it at most korean grocery shops!!! It's just as good (if made correctly)
Those are amazing. They have this stall that sells it year-round in Auckland, New Zealand~ It's almost like standard student fare here because they're so cheap. They have expanded the varieties over the years though
Oooooh my gosh that japchae hoddeok looks amazing. My mouth is salivating. I never thought of planning a trip to South Korea but now I really want to just to eat at all the places you guys have introduced. (I think I've watched every single WANK and FAPFAP by now cuz I love food)
If you live in Toronto, there's a chance for you try the traditional Hoddeuk around September time in North York! There's a big Korean Festival annually in the North York Centre and they sell them on that one day!
though i got my recipe from aeriskitchen who is a lady from korean who moved to the US like 5 yeas and she makes videos on youtube about how to make actual korean food from korea. i love her :D
I knew what it was you were describing! I have a Korean cookbook and was always wanting to make these filled "pancakes" they had a picture of in the book and last year I finally did. The recipe I have it was a cinnamon sugar mix, I don't remember there being any brown sugar. It takes like 3hrs for the dough to rise before you start filling it so I kept putting off making them but they were SOOOOOO GOOD!!!! I didn't know there was a savory kind - I see a new recipe to search out!
I make these at home a lot, they are so good and really easy. You can fill them with like anything!! Cheese is one of my house's favorites and the sugar one (like in the video) is amazing too.
They sell this at this Korean stall behind Queen Street in Auckland all year round. It's cheap and there are like 4 flavours (sweet, cheese, ham and vege). It's really yummy. I called it Korean pancake LOL.
My mom went to an asian market and got me "pancake mix", which was the english translation, but it's actually hoddeok mix! It's the sweet kind, but the Hangul reads "chal" instead of ggul. I'm so excited to try it and it's gonna be delicious! :)
You guys should really try a hopple. A cross between hoddeok and a waffle. When I went there it was in practically every subway station. Think there's one in City Hall station. it uses a waffle press though so you don't really get the fluffy, oily coating but I think it's still good.
LOL! Thanks so much! The butcher one....gosh, I haven't been watching those for a long time! I haven't been as active making videos like I used to! As far as 파리바게트 the 공갈빵 is okay...I happened to have tried this place in a traditional market in Sinpo Market in Dongincheon that makes fresh ones and they are very yummy when taken out of the oven. :)
I kinda want to see Martina make these. Anybody agree?
LovelyDumplings~ PLEASE
Step 1: Put it in your mouth
Step 2: Chew and Swallow
Step 3: Get fat
Optional: Make the face of foodgasm
This is awesome :P with all those awesome food out there
***** No idea what profit are you talking about :3
I am clearly in the wrong part of the world. *sigh*
I would just like to say I wanted to try these for nine frikin years and today I finally had one. It was glorious.
It’s 2022 and I’m reminiscing this era of EYK. Life was so good 🥺🥺
Awesome side note: the people at this Hoddeok stand gave us free Hoddeok the other day. They saw our video. YAY! Making videos about food we love, and then getting that food for free? DREAM COME TRUE!

Golden rule I've found in Korea: the cheaper the food, the better :D
I love how this comment only has 2 likes and no reply (except for this one obviously). Kinda ironic. Also this looks delicious.
I miss these videos!
They sell the batter kit at the asian stores if you wanted to quickly make some at home :) my mom makes them from the kit all the time.
Martina, I literally ALWAYS love your hair. Like, look at how perfect it is around your ears like it's not tight and pulled back.. it's perfect and UGH. SHOW ME YOUR WAYS ON OPENTHEHAPPY
So you have finally done it. You have forced me to create something unholy in my kitchen... Behold the Hamburger Hoddeok!
imgur.com/a/Gf3Rq
the madness of genius
Ommm, that is saliva inducing, yuuuum
Elizabeth Griffith You are pure awesomeness.
You're a genius also can you make me one?
Little did Martina know that her future self would not only NOT lose, but she would enjoy the creme brule donut. Hang in there past Martina, you will get your revenge.
1:36 The guy next to her looking at her weirdly when she was speaking Korean
I thought i was the only one who noticed that... lol XD
LOL xD
I think this is one of the best shot/acted/filmed FAPFAP's in a while. It was fun, but still informative about the Korean food Simon and Martina were eating. Thanks for a great video! (and was safe to watch in my class.)

Do you know how to make the filling/noodles/syrup for it?
I made this last month following Maangchi's recipe!! It was delicious, and my family loved it!
jesus Christ I'm so hungry for korean food and ive never had it before
omg rlly
I’ve been waiting 11 years to try one and today I’ve found some at the local Korean market! Currently eating it and watching old EYK videos to reminisce
Between Spudgy and Simon, do you ever get to eat anything on your own, Martina?
you mean Beside ?
+Míu Angel Uh, no. That would imply she eats Spudgy and Simon.
Martina's editing is always funny and nice, but honestly... this one is the funniest I've seen so far! good job, Martina!
is it just me or is simon always trying to eat martinas food ?
It's not just you. :)
oh ok thanks lol
ALWAYS
One of my favorite treats! I love making these at home with my kids, but nothing compares to getting it at one of the street vendors--it's perfection! :)
I should had never watched this video. *forever crying over Korean food I'll never eat*
make it at home! very easy
If anyone wants to try these, I believe they sell mixes to make these in Korean markets like H-Mart. There is a small possibility of it being in a Japanese market like Mitsuwa too but I doubt it (though they do sell a few Korean products)
You guys are funny....keep it up!
When I was a kid in Korea, we had something very similar to those, just a pancake filled with brown sugar and chopped peanuts. I still make them in the winter time.
That is hoddeok! :D
Guess i should've listened to them when they said not to watch this when your hungry :(
I have been wanting to try Hoddeok ever since you guys first put this video out and I finally got to try it 1 week ago when I went to visit Seoul!!
I looked up how to make these. I will be making them soon.
wow, the cinematography of these videos get better every episode!
Japchae is one of my favorite foods of all time so that looks HEAVENLY. these grapes I'm eating are so sad and pathetic in comparison...
You can buy hoddeok packaged mix at Korean markets in the US. My mom like to get me brown sugar, green tea, and red bean hoddeok packages.
Simon's haggle process is adorable! Haha, come on Martina, how can you not give in?! The only thing he didn't do was ask for it in Spudgy voice!
hiiiimymelody because he already ate his and best part of Martina's which is why she was eating another one
hiiiimymelody B/c screw you adorable person MY FOOD
There's a hoddeok stand in the Namdaemun market that sells many varieties, including japchae.
I keep laughing at that part where Simon can't talk
I saw this and I looked up the recipe and then made it. The counterfeit hoddeok we (my brother and I) made tastes amazing and our whole family is addicted now. I can only imagine how amazing the ones you're eating are. LOVED THE VIDEO BTW
My mother keeps saying it like 'Hot Dog' cause it sounds like it. You dont know how many times i tried to correct her...
2:41 did anyone else notice the guy doing the peace sign??
Can you make a one for like little snacks from Korea like dalgona ?
try visiting a local korean grocery store, they now come in packages flour and sugar packaging with it.. just that you need to knead the dough and fry it
I really don't understand why Simon and Martina always act like they've been starved for days and always fight each other for food. can't they just buy more?!??!
maybe the food is expensive
+peanutbutterjelly323 It's a playful thing.
Will be in Seoul next week so hope hoddeok season won't be over yet. Hoddeok is my favourite street snack!
sooo.....the guy in the black coat @ 1:04 looks A LOT like myungsoo from infinite
LOOOL!!!! it always ends with Simon wanting a bite of Martina's food!
i want Hoddeok too ! waaaah i swear i was salivating through the whole video !
the first korean food i ever made by myself was 호떡 and it was delishhh although i'm sure the real thing is way better haha
You guys. I'm trying to cut down on my subscriptions... you just bumped like three people off the list you're so good. Stahp.
Mmmm! I just made cheese hoddeok!
hahha you guys always make me jealously hungry with your food adventure programs~ everything looks so delicious, and it's like i can smell the food all the way from here...
I bought a make your own mix of this. it was matcha flavored AND OMG, it was SOOOOOOO good. I burned the roof of my mouth cause I had just cooked it and it was too good to wait for it to cool down. > w
Ha! I didn't think many people would get that. I quote Delirious on a daily basis.
AND THEN A BIG BROWN SHARK CAME!
Do you guys have the FAPFAP: Live Octopus Edition?
The editing for your videos have gotten really AWESOME.
Yes to good-timed sound effects haha ^^
My mom cooks those all the time. :0
It looks so delicious! I want one! And as always, Simon's descriptions are the best, yo. I love that fat beat you dropped. It's gonna be a hit!
Watching all these FAPFAPs is definitely persuading me to go to Korea, like, now
My mom's friend makes this thing similar to the ggul hoddeok but when he mixes the batter in a bowl he portions it so they're smaller than a hoddeok, he makes it with brown sugar and flour then fries it in oil, he calls them "sugar dumplings" though they look like hoddeok and they're really good! Sometimes it tastes like there's butter in it.
I miss old Simon and Martina /sigh
It's okay they are even older now 8D
Lol Old people joke
omg yasssssss
PS Sorry Simeon and Martina! I couldn't resist! Please don't pelt me with your walkers and prunes!
In fact, you can go to a Korean market, and buy your own Hoddeok mix. It's pretty easy to make.
I miss clean shaved Simon:((
I've totally been noticing the new editing on your videos, so props to all the EYK team! The vidoes look greaat :):):)
LOLLLLL
step 3: GET FAT.
I totally had this when I was in Seoul in December! I didn't know what it was called, but my friend said we had to eat it in while in Myeondong. Soooooo gooood (we had the sweet one)! As soon as you said that it was only available in the winter, I was like "Is it?... YES!" yummmm
First time i hear Martina talking in Korean and she has an accent xd just saying.
I loved it when I went to Korea! And I've realised that the actually sell the mix for making it at home! They sell it at most korean grocery shops!!! It's just as good (if made correctly)
Simon annoys me.
Thank you for posting this. I'm in Hongdae now so this is now on my list of things to try tomorrow.
I miss this. Had it while in Busan and Seoul
Those are amazing. They have this stall that sells it year-round in Auckland, New Zealand~ It's almost like standard student fare here because they're so cheap. They have expanded the varieties over the years though
I actually just tried japchae a few weeks ago and loved it. It looks like it would be even more delicious in dough!
there used to be a stall near where I live here in sydney but they closed down TAT
i know a shop that sells those all year round and i get them every friday or so
Oooooh my gosh that japchae hoddeok looks amazing. My mouth is salivating. I never thought of planning a trip to South Korea but now I really want to just to eat at all the places you guys have introduced. (I think I've watched every single WANK and FAPFAP by now cuz I love food)
You guys are so much fun that I subscribed.
If you live in Toronto, there's a chance for you try the traditional Hoddeuk around September time in North York! There's a big Korean Festival annually in the North York Centre and they sell them on that one day!

I watch this almost every day and it makes me want one so bad!!!! Makes my mouth water...
Re-Watching these 😏 still loving it
Your video editing always brings a smile to my face :)
If you're in a bigger usa city that has Korean grocery stores you can possibly find during winter
Hoddeok is available all year round in Toronto ^.^
Who ever edited this did a freaking amazing!!!!
I make these at home a lot, they are so good and really easy. You can fill them with like anything!! Cheese is one of my house's favorites and the sugar one (like in the video) is amazing too.
Why do I watch these videos at 4 in the morning. why. sobbing.
Simon is having a lot of fun with these descriptions XD
Hahahaha I love you guys!!! You spread happiness and laughter ❤️😂😂😂
They sell this at this Korean stall behind Queen Street in Auckland all year round. It's cheap and there are like 4 flavours (sweet, cheese, ham and vege). It's really yummy. I called it Korean pancake LOL.

Hoddeok are so awesome!! I make them a lot around the christmas time.
As a graphic designer, I do love the new editing style..
Me too! I made both sweet ones and salty ones. I didn't put enough flavour and filling in them though.
i enjoy the new editing style! looks so tasty!
You guys should really try a hopple. A cross between hoddeok and a waffle. When I went there it was in practically every subway station. Think there's one in City Hall station. it uses a waffle press though so you don't really get the fluffy, oily coating but I think it's still good.

It’s 2022 and I’m reminiscing this era of EYK. Life was so good 🥺🥺
