  • The 3rd video in our Strength Training series. The exercises demonstrated in this video do not represent a workout routine, but just a collection of training ideas. You could use these to complement parkour training, or just for general fitness. We have tried to show a broad range of exercises, so feel free to select the ones which you think will be of use/benefit to you.

    I started conditioning towards the end of 2005, so 7 years ago. We didn't really know what we were doing to begin with, and worked things out gradually as we went. A trip to Lisses in France in 2005 gave us a good insight into the importance and techniques for conditioning, when we trained with some of the French parkour practitioners.
    I don't follow the paleo diet, just a generally healthy one.

    @Obsidian1138  11 лет назад +1

    You're right that it helps to have someone to show you the basics, but as long as you can find a parkour group near were you live, they'll be able to offer you help and advice for free if you go and train with them. Where we train, new people turn up almost every week, and we always help them to get started by talking them through techniques etc. Even as people progress, more experienced members of the group will offer tips and suggestions where necessary. That's all part of parkour. :)

  • @Obsidian1138
    @Obsidian1138  11 лет назад +2

    We've been doing this type of conditioning for about 7 years. You need to also consider diet, as well as the actual exercise. Nutrition and is an important part of any training regime if you want to benefit fully from the workout. I don't have space here to go into detail, but look into it, if you haven't already.
    With any training, it should always be challenging. As long as it is, you should see gradual improvement over time. Set yourself training goals and work towards them.

    Pull up as far as you can go. Also, if you can find another way to get up the wall or bar, practice the negative. By this I mean practice lowering yourself back down to a hang in the most controlled way you can. This will help to train most of the same muscles you'll use for the climb up/muscle up.

    Thanks. That was the intention really. Yes, absolute strength can be built in a gym fairly quickly. We're trying to demonstrate methods which not only help to improve strength, but aid in all of the areas you mentioned too. In my opinion, this is important :)

    Exactly Paul. Moreover, to overcome weak strength phase, you can also practice "Forced reps" (External action to assist you e.g. pushing a little bit with one of your foot on the ground), and "cheat reps" (with a swing movement, but it's request more coordination). Above all, most important is to train through your full ROM.

    After highschool, if I save enough money im going to tour Europe and im going to come to Manchester to thank you guys for the help on my conditioning ever since I saw your videos last year I feel 2 to 3x stronger, faster, and better than I ever was

  • @Obsidian1138
    @Obsidian1138  11 лет назад

    Start by hanging off walls which are textured, with good grip on top. Traversing sideways will also help to improve finger strength. Move on to walls with ridges or ledges which restrict your grip, or walls with poor grip on the front surface so you become less reliant on grip from your feet. Practice regularly in short bursts and you'll notice improvements in grip and finger strength.

    Try plyometric leg exercises, such as those seen at 6:15 and 9:30. The precision jumps shown at 9:30 can also be done on level ground, just travelling forwards rather than upstairs.

    The "anti-exercise" guy really made me laugh, I think it's a kind of person every Parkour practitioner runs into sooner or later. I know I'm bringing some emergency candy bars from now on! As usual I really enjoyed the exercises, and I've got some new ideas for S&C.. keep up the good work and stay strong!

    That's why it's so important that you keep training in Blackpool, 'to keep the movement alive there, even if there are times when no-one else trains with you'. The responsibility has fallen on you, you will inspire, teach and show people what is possible. You need to keep the movement alive, just as David Bell, Daniel Illabaca and others have. In your town you are just as important. Are you going to die a little bit every day, or are you going to live even more. That's the choice.

  • @MrCoolsterdude65

    A lot of techniques used for bodybuilding focus on large muscle groups in the upper body and even if you succeed your muscles are disproportionate. So disproportionate that you cant use them in practical situations and thats not the case with parkour so ty for doing this (:

  • @Obsidian1138
    @Obsidian1138  11 лет назад

    I haven't perfected them yet, but I was doing handstands for a couple of years before really trying freestanding handstand push ups. It's the balance which is the difficult part, not the strength. I started by doing them against a wall, but it's when you take it into open space that it gets difficult. Maintaining balance AND pushing your bodyweight up is tricky. I'd say I've been working on it for 6 months, but it will take another year to get them really solid.

    If you've still got pain in your knee, it might be a good idea to visit a physio, who can assess the injury and offer the best advice.
    In terms of cold weather training, start off with a jog as part of the warmup & try to stay moving throughout the session. As long as you're wearing reasonably warm clothing, it won't actually feel that cold while you're training. Also, if you're not used to training in cold weather, limit the sessions to an hour to begin with & increase the duration over time.

    This is great, and perhaps covers more than the name suggests. Beyond aiding strength and fitness, the exercises demonstrate and build other important skills - spacial and bodily awareness, understanding of environment and experimentation. Skills of the body and the mind. Yes you could probably build your strength quicker in a controlled environment (read: gym), but you would be lacking these other elements which allow you to use that strength safely and efficiently.
