i am not usually into slowed down versions of songs that are very upbeat but damn this is amazing. very rich, haunting sound. and janelle had such a blast. how cute.
I love the fact that Janelle is up dancing to it! Why can't people just accept the fact that we are ALL different and that is what makes the human race so BEAUTIFUL. The day I come on RUclips and don't see any negative BS I will rejoice. This cover is amazing, she shone in her own unique way as does Janelle when she performs.x
I loved seeing Janelle standing throughout. She's a class act! The rest of what you said is so true, also--the things which separate us are never significant.
Pretty much every cover they do is a departure from the original sound, which is pretty great in my opinion. I would say it's far more difficult to create your own interpretation of a song and have it sound good than to imitate the original.
they fuckin killed it! brought their own sound to it... this is fuckin brilliant in so many levels... her singing may be off in a couple places, but the emotion compensates. fuck yes loving this band.
I love it! They really brought their own signature sound to it. I love it when bands do covers that are uniquely their own, rather than just trying to emulate the original performance.
Wow. Really love this. I don't compare it to the original, it's a original by itself, it's more than an mere cover the whole song's changed. Cheers you sweet artistic guys !
when i heard chvrches covered tightrope i thought it would be weird cuz tightropes really funky and chvrches are pretty synthesized but surprisingly this works!
After all these years I finally realized that the difference between the original and this cover is with the original you want to get up and dance to it, while this version I want to cry to because of how beautifully melancholy it is.
Some of you people are such snobs. You aren't some music guru because you hate everything. It's a cover, relax. Janelle herself is in the crowd enjoying this and feeling proud that a band is covering her song. Being a nit picky critic doesnt make you smart.
Lauren must have been quite nervous playing in front of Janelle and other women she looks up to. She certainly seemed relieved when Janella hugged her at the end. Lauren sang wonderfully while Iain and Martin performed admirably. Sincere and talented.
I absolutly LOVE Janelle since she first came out and I think this cover is amazing. You cannot compare artists, it doesn't make any senses just try to enjoy the different feelings that a different version of a song brings in you. There's also a lot of respect in this performance and I'm glad that I discovered Chvches through it
Chvrches took an already great song and put their own unique spin on it. They slowed it down, put all of the focus on the vocals (her voice is really lovely and it really does need to be showcased), and then added some laid back, chill instrumental parts to back her up. AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM DOING THAT... For some reason people always think slow has to be super emotional or dramatic, but that's not the case. The tempo of a song doesn't dictate the mood of the song. But, anyway, this is a great cover of Janelle's song. No, it may not be what you want it to be, but based on most of the negative comments about it, a lot of y'all might as well stop listening to covers all together. A cover shouldn't sound exactly like the original; there's no point to a cover if there are no new, original ideas brought to it. A cover should reflect the sound and ideas of the person making it, and this performance does exactly that. Also, Janelle seems to really enjoy their take on HER song, so there's no need to trash this cover and say things like "nobody should touch Janelle's music" when Janelle HERSELF obviously approves of it. /endrant
Why is that when artists are covering eachothers works or even being compared in general, people get defensive and feel like they have to leave shitty comments about how A is better than B? It's sad.
I think it's strange that people always have to compare which one is better. Covers are not meant to sound alike nor better, the meaning of a cover is to appreciate the original artist and to show your own interpretation of the song. It's kind of a tribute. It's a mix of your own creativity and the original's.
Oh, this is amazing. Discovered Janelle Monáe in late 2011, then Grimes was next to blow my mind in late 2013, then Daughter captivated my emotions in June 2016 followed by MØ in July, and now CHVRCHES :)
I love this version. Chvrches made the song more to their style and it total works. Amazing chilled vibe. I listened to the original and it's not really my type of style. But here is the difference between me and all the haters. I don't say that any version is rubbish. We are all different and it's not for me or anyone else to start putting another artist down.
Lol youe sitting here critiquing someone's opinion of zomething. Yoyr hating on the haters. You've lives long enough to become the villa. Of yoyr one comment
I wasn't sure how to feel about it when she first began, but eventually I got into it. I wouldn't call this a fantastic cover, but I feel like she did the song justice.
Love how this performance exhibits the versatility of an amazing song. To take the song and place the emphasis on the verses creates a truly CHRVCHES rendition. It may not be the original but who honestly wanted to see Lauren attempt her best Janelle Monae? Power in diversity.
I think the draw of Chvrches is that while they may not be technically "perfect" in their musicality, they have an enigmatic quality that is impossible to duplicate.
i kinda wish she had did Big Boi's part lol. And for yall ppl getting so mad about her covering the song...wtf? She likes Janelle Monae, so she sung one of her songs. I think she did a good job. I wouldn't try to compare the two because the sound was so different, but I feel like one artist showing appreciation to another in this manner is a beautiful thing.
Why is anyone comparing CHVRCHS to Janelle? Its a cover. Its supposed to sound different. I think they did an excellent job in making it their own sound.
Any one can say that this song is better than the original and i couldn't get more agree, but actually both are different styles and this has other arrangements...any way i think lauren's voice it's amazing, she's so sweet and it's a really good cover. like when you hear missing by the "everything but the girl" and you listen later the cover of paradise lost.
It only shows how good TIGHTROPE song really is. The chvrches version gave a different perspective on the song. Some people might like this more because you can hear all the words. - Genius Song, Great Artists.
I've watched this too many times. I love Chvrches, but please make a studio version of this, so I can download it! Janelle Monae made a beautiful song, but Chvrches really made it their own. Not the typical, just try to make it the same as the original.
If you look for a video called "chvrches covers" by a channel called Chvrches latinoamerica there's a studio version (or at least a cleaner sounding live version) of this song there. You just have to download the video and cut the parts you want!
The Bones of What You Believe (Asia Deluxe Edition) contains a version of this a a bonus track (Tightrope - Alucard Session.) I know this probably doesn’t help the Streamers - in the US - out there. And sadly, the 10th Anniversary Edition of “Bones” did not have that track. But collectors can take note…
Lots of hate on here; I thought it was a pretty interesting cover. Sure, it doesn't compare to the original but I think if that's what you're expecting, you're missing the point.
i am not usually into slowed down versions of songs that are very upbeat but damn this is amazing. very rich, haunting sound. and janelle had such a blast. how cute.

I love Janelle Monáe's reaction. She's adorable!
i love how janelle was dancing and singing along. they are both such wonderful, talented, and kind women
I can't stop t-t-t-t-t-thinking about this song
yopuhcak Its only two of them. likin t-t talking abou it
Yashiro Isana Baby you're high?
yopuhcak No
Baby you're high, you said no. T-t-t-t-tip on the tightrope...
yopuhcak I dont get it, Truth About Black Eyed Beings/Demons
I didn't even recognize the song! They really transformed the song, it's so cool!!
they've stated they dont wanna be known as a cover band.
like every rock band ever. okay ?
Then they need to stop doing covers.
Why not? Sounds very good
Pretty much every cover they do is a departure from the original sound, which is pretty great in my opinion. I would say it's far more difficult to create your own interpretation of a song and have it sound good than to imitate the original.
they fuckin killed it! brought their own sound to it... this is fuckin brilliant in so many levels... her singing may be off in a couple places, but the emotion compensates. fuck yes loving this band.
might have used the word fuck a bit too much... must have been the excitement :p
Please look up Chvrches cover of the the Arctic Monkeys song "Do I wanna know". much more awesome than this song.
Jamie Locke I like their cover of Bela Legosi's Dead, myself...
If it's good enough for Janelle Monae it's sure as hell good enough for me
I love it! They really brought their own signature sound to it. I love it when bands do covers that are uniquely their own, rather than just trying to emulate the original performance.
I want this version on Spotify one day
Wow. Really love this. I don't compare it to the original, it's a original by itself, it's more than an mere cover the whole song's changed.

Ashraf Zaid "You aren't some music guru because you hate everything."
- Never a truer word was spoken
Ashraf Zaid well said brother
This cover is so beautiful!! I love her voice.

Love love love. And I love that Janelle loved it, too!
Holy shit! This band.. I just effing love it. They surprise me everytime.

So true, they always do put their own spin onto every single cover they do, which is amazing.
Why is that when artists are covering eachothers works or even being compared in general, people get defensive and feel like they have to leave shitty comments about how A is better than B? It's sad.
i totally agree with you :)
and it has zero to do with why a song is being covered. People are complex!
I think it's strange that people always have to compare which one is better. Covers are not meant to sound alike nor better, the meaning of a cover is to appreciate the original artist and to show your own interpretation of the song. It's kind of a tribute. It's a mix of your own creativity and the original's.
people are attached to the originals usually so it's natural to critique covers
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
To imitate someone is to pay the person a genuine compliment - often an unintended compliment.
I've seen Chvrches live and the full sound that they pump out just gets lost in a RUclips video. Live, I bet this was really great.
Adam Brooks yeah it sounds like she's singing with a boombox here.
Theres a Chvches studio version of this and its really great
In my opinion this is one of her best performances ever, they really made this version legit.
love love love the energy between janelle and lauren aaaaahhhh
For Lauren it must've been very tough to have Janelle watching her performance. But the outcome was awesome!
So. Freakin' Good. Even years later it still gives be goosebumps!
Two tiny ladies with big, powerful messages to tell. Perfect!
I love Miss Monae so much. I haven't heard CHVRCHES' music before but this was an excellent cover. very nice! :)
Aww, Janelle was loving it
this is the 15th time listening to this song...... just amazing!, thank you!!! thank you.
Yet again, Scotland shows off its brilliance, it's talent, through Chvrches.
Amazing. they feel it and also Janelle. and also I.
Love how her courage grows as the song goes on, really deepens the connection that much more.

This is so therapeutic ! i love this !
this is probably "the" favorite song/cover of all my entire life.
I can't stop listening to this cover. It's very martian to create a cover as distant as it's, but Lauren is at his best, what a beautiful voice!
this is phenomenal :D
This is wonderful. Two of my favorite artists right now.
I absolutely love this cover! I even have it on my iPod. I like the tune and the guitar playing in the background, gotta love their music style.
Both versions are cool in there own way. I love them both well done chvrches. For making it your own.
Hey CHVRCHES! I'M HERE! FOREVER! 🤘🔥
I simply love her, them, the band, the sound...CVRCHES!
I wasn't sure how to feel about it when she first began, but eventually I got into it. I wouldn't call this a fantastic cover, but I feel like she did the song justice.
i love janelle dancing to it
I have a lot of time for both these women, respect
Love how this performance exhibits the versatility of an amazing song. To take the song and place the emphasis on the verses creates a truly CHRVCHES rendition. It may not be the original but who honestly wanted to see Lauren attempt her best Janelle Monae? Power in diversity.
That's just awesome. I could listen to her voice all day. Just awesome
Such a sweet sweet voice. She is really incredible.
I ♥ this ... the most beautiful thing is when ur voice is heard and people want to hear ur voice ..... what a blessing:-D
Loving BOTH versions of this song. :)))
Love it. Amazing as always Chvrches. Lauren's voice is pure honey.
Im obsessed with this
great cover. very chill vibe compared to Janelle and her high powered funk. love it. now I have them playing back to back. good stuff.
I think the draw of Chvrches is that while they may not be technically "perfect" in their musicality, they have an enigmatic quality that is impossible to duplicate.
Chvrches covers are the best! Search up their take on Kendrick Lamars Love.. great stuff!
I'm beginning to love every cover they've been doing!
Love this version!❤👏👏👏
so much love for both versions of this song :)
I love this girl and her voice and how she transforms every song she covers :)
as if it is just her doing all the work lol
Janelle is so dang classy
That was a very interesting composition of Janelle's Tight Rope. I liked it a lot.
The strength of this version is diffrence between original and cover. And I love it.
Two of my favorite female musicians ever, to be honest.
come on guys she said don't hate it and if you guys hate it just pretend that you don't, cause it help her spirit :)
love this version and lauren too
Covers arent supposed to be exactly the same! I liked it, they brought their own style and mood to it.
Love this version, it's different but it's excellent!
i kinda wish she had did Big Boi's part lol.
And for yall ppl getting so mad about her covering the song...wtf?

I love this cover....

A little insecure in the beginning but it got amazing towards the end. Wish we had a studio recording of this!
There is! They just released a US Deluxe Edition of their album with this some new mixes of a few songs.
Makaveli6103 Nice, thanks, I hope it's somehow available for us Europeans ...
I agree with you.....it was a bit rough in the beginning.
ive never heard Janelles version and this sounded amazing.

Pure talent. Churches is so under rated.
Loved this cover!
love this cover.
and the sound of lain guitar makes the song catchy
You can see even Janelle loved it!
Is there something she can't sing? She's amazing
So Cool! Xo's
Astounding video. Gracious Ladies.
This is brilliant. I love Janelle and this was a great intro to Chvrches for me. :)
What a nice moment to have on film.
Turn this up and close your eyes amazing cover...........
After listening to this awesome cover a hundredth time, I just only now realize that Lavren is humming at 2:55.
Amazing cover.
Ah this is amazing I love chvrches
This is music at its finest
I would have loved to have heard the way she approached the 3rd verse but hey its really nice and soothing this cover is!
love this cover
So GREAT!!!!
Aww she's so cute. She was so worried about if everyone would hate it. It's really good no need to worry
It's funny how people on the comments are trying to find reasons to bash on them but the performance was really good
I want to hate it but I really don't, it's really dope
Incredible.............. they nailed it!
I've watched this too many times. I love Chvrches, but please make a studio version of this, so I can download it! Janelle Monae made a beautiful song, but Chvrches really made it their own. Not the typical, just try to make it the same as the original.

So beautiful song
