Yo! SUPER SICK FOOTAGE! It sos rad to see some other younger folks exploring the stuff we got out here in the canyons. I just found out Maple Springs is open again so I cant wait to head back out into the area!
There's a spot up there, that's a little over half way to the top, with a large boulder placed there. Coming down the trail, you could see why they added the boulder as it's easy to miss the trial and tumble down a bank. Years ago before the boulder was put in, friends and I repelled down and checked the area. Lots of crashed vehicles. Have you seen that spot yet?
@@PacificRoamer I'm sorry, what I meant about half way to the top would be from the first entrance until you find yourself on santiago peak with the radio towers. It's a rather sharp right hand turn when you are traveling up trail. Going back down towards the el toro side, it would be a massive left hand turn, coming down. There's a large boulder at the turn to prevent vehicles falling. Tons have in the past. There's also an old trail head, and a totally shot up tree infront of the old trail head.
@@PacificRoamer looking at google maps, I believe it is in an area called Bigcone Spring. There's a lot of rather large trees and it's one of the most obvious hairpin turns.
@@dethpig420 Oh yeah, I know that spot! Its where I filmed the 2nd half of my "Overnight in the clouds" video. I've seen all the vehicles but havn't gone down myself.
Nice video man! I've tried to squeeze in that one adit towards the end of your video before. Sucks how its so short. As for the spring, I've been up there but didn't find anything. Might need to look closer next time though.
Thats good to know! I get most of my info from USGS data and there isn't anything listed for Harding but it would make sense. I'll have to go looking around!
There is a parking lot at the start of this forest road but you can just pull off anywhere and park too. Although you need a wilderness permit for your windshield.
Recently came across an older news articles that mentioned that at its peak the Santa Ana Mountains had upwards of 200+ claims. From my knowledge only about 10 can be found through research, mapping, hiking, etc.
@@geechyguy3441according to native Americans they hundreds to thousands of feet down, they were reached before the waters rose thousands of years ago. There government documents that alluded to a shaft of some sort on the base at the time that could reach these tunnels. I will have to find the info can't remember where.
@@aaronarcee That shaft has to be closed off by now, I love that mystery though. You know there's a ton of abandoned mineshafts over in the Santa Ana mountain range
I get it so often i just dont really mind it anymore. Theres so much of it too back in these canyons that its inevitable. Best thing to do is wear long sleeves and use dish soap when back home since its an oil that causes the effects.
If youre looking for local trails in the area I would recommend checking out either blackstar canyon or harding truck trail in Modjeska. They do get fairly packed though on the weekends.
Me and my buddy nate dug out the adit @ 7:25 about two years ago. It was completely covered. If your interested in any of the mines around silverado dm me on instagram @criplip
My son in law and daughter lived there for years I always wondered about those mines. Thanks for the video.
Love your videos man, this canyon means a lot to me.. hope to see you out there one day, stay safe G.

Thats interesting! By halfway to the top are you referring to the claim in the first half of the video?

Oh man, I took one look at all the spiders moving around in the leaves and said NOPE. I commend your commitment haha
I've also been up at that spring and found nothing.
Another amazing video as always. Keep it up. 👍🏼
Thank you!
great footage. i hiked back there a couple of years ago. even in winter it was way overgrown. cool spot. any guesses on when it was last mined?
Great video! What was that road that you parked along?
That portion was along Maple Springs Rd.
@@PacificRoamer Thank you!
pretty kickass. i mountain bike here a lot, awesome place
Love the video, stay safe
Awesome video
There are also a couple of prospects in Harding Canyon.

@pacific roamer - where did you park?
Pretty area!
Hey quick question. Is there Like a staging area or trail head so you could park your car. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

omg.. my local mountains🫣💙 u da best
It's kind of sad to see that those mines will ultimately vanish.

Lol, I almost get poison oak watching these viddys. dang.
The old El Toro military base supposedly has underground entrances, tunnels, caves, that lead all the way to Palomar mtn
But isn’t that area just all houses now? Or are there hidden spots
It's now, a school,.. that's crazy I was just there couple days ago, woo woo
@@aaronarcee Where could the hidden tunnels be then?

So with poison oak, do you just not mind getting it? Didn't seem like you tried to avoid it at all.

How do you find these things?
I'm a professional google mappler
For real.. snakes .. man alive
Engaging for virality.
I appreciate it! As expected the poison oak has arrived.
Im from Santa Ana, love to visit there but im too scared

Oh really! For sure. I want to try and get back there again in the winter when i dont have to deal with ratlers and getting stabbed by dead brush haha
