  • Climb into the cockpit of a huge B-777 for 'Final Approach, Living the Dream', a heart warming, and true story of what I consider the greatest career of all time, an airline pilot's career, with actual flight footage, and actual ATC communications. This 14 minute film of Captain Henderson's professional journey to, and for American Airlines, won several worldwide film festival 'Honorable Mention' awards including Cannes Shorts! Worthy of watching to the end!
Quote: "My teachers used to say, Blane, stop daydreaming, no one is ever going to pay you to stare out the window!...oh, if only they could have seen it all".
A personal narrative film of retired American Airlines International Captain, Blane Henderson, after 47 years in the profession, and 40 years with American Airlines. From a small Cessna 150, to a wide-body Boeing 777-300, ‘Final Approach Living the Dream’ reflects on his path to the profession, his musings, and his acknowledgement of the amazing professionals that he was fortunate enough to have worked with along the way, and over the years. Each flight was an individual journey, an individual adventure with its own unique set of characteristics, of crew, of weather, aircraft, destinations and the great unknown. You never really knew what challenges a day 'in the saddle' was going to bring; what was coming down the pike for you to face like turbulence, mechanicals, medical emergencies, and ATC delays just to name a few. You had to be prepared for all of them, all the time. You had to be on your ‘game’ each and every flight. Chuck Yaeger once said, "There is no such thing as a natural born pilot...regardless of aptitude or talent, becoming a professional pilot is hard work that requires constant continuous training, constant learning, and a lifetime of experience to be the 'best of the best'. For Captain Henderson, it all started with childhood dreams of flying. Those dreams became an obsession to a young man who pursued and persisted to overcome all the challenges inherent in an aviation career, turning those dreams into a lifelong career...'a reality far greater and far more rewarding’ than his childhood dreams. Filmed at destinations all over the world and over a period of 6 years.

Thank you...I appreciate the comment. It was a great career. I originally posted it on Vimeo where it was well received (48K views). The RUclips algorithm and platform doesn't seem to promote it as much.🤷‍♂

I am proud to be retired from The Company after 25 years. My father started with AA as a Fleet Service Clerk in 1937 loading mail on the ramp. Retired as a Senior Flight Dispatcher after 50 years. Then I picked up the gauntlet. Yours was a great career, Captain.

Tim, You should be proud and congratulations on your retirement too! It's the people that I worked with, trusted and relied upon, like yourself and your father that I miss the most about the job. The professionalism of every one of you made my job so easy. Thank you

Thank you A-Rod for taking the time to watch it! Vimeo is my platform of choice, but I'm slowly posting some of my films to RUclips for more exposure. Yes indeed, RUclips's search algorithm is so much different than Vimeo's classic search engine. Your comment is very much appreciated. I look forward to more of your work too!
